David was very welcoming and provided any advice and assistance when requested...he certainly goes the extra mile. We arrived early in the morning after a long flight from Australia. We were able to leave our luggage in storage and were invited into breakfast, even though our visit was to commence later that day. An easy place to get to from the city on local bus service which stops just outside.David provided clear and easy to follow directions for us to make the trip from the airport prior to ... Read more

This characteristic Victorian Hotel is located about a 10 minutes bus journey from Edinburgh City and the bus-stops to and from the City (no 11) are just across the road from the hotel. The Ocean Terminal for The Royal Britannia is about a 15 minute walk away and close-by is "the shore" where there are a few pubs and restaurants, so the A-Haven is well located. David warmly welcomed us on arrival and showed us to our room, which was both clean comfortable and had all we needed for our 3 night ... Read more

We stayed here for a family funeral and the guest house was kind enough to allow us an early check in. Nice location, easy to drive to. We had a family room, comfy beds, bathroom was small, all areas were clean. Stairs aren't the easiest for young children to climb. Breakfast was lovely, good selection and cooked as requested. Would certainly consider going back.

Stayed at this hotel in May, Was going to lunch at The Kitchin the next day so this hotel was a great location, big attraction was that it also had secure parking. Was greeted by the owner - really friendly and helpful. Stayed in one of the rooms at the back which are not in the actual hotel and my only comment would be that I would have liked to have stayed inside the hotel as its a truly beautiful building with lots of character and would have preferred that - but will ask for one of those ... We stayed for nearly a week, food was excellent and our host was very welcoming and helpful, its easy traveling in to the town by bus and plenty of them running. The room was ideal and very clean and comfortable. Would recommend here for a stay and if we came back up we would book in again

Having looked on Google earth to pinpoint the location after I had booked did alarm me slightly as it is clearly on a bus route and a main road into Edinburgh. How wrong I was. The hotel is so peaceful and there was absolutely no traffic noise whatsoever. David and his staff are outstanding and all went above and beyond to make our stay special. We stayed in room 14 which is one of the two newer units to the rear of the hotel. The breakfast is superb and our only regret was not staying longer. W... Read more

I have stayed at the A Haven 3 times and is a great place to stay, David is a lovely man and great host. Looking forward to staying again. There is a great bus service every 10 minutes right outside that takes you to the town. Breakfast is great plenty of choice. Rooms are clean and tidy and comfy. I would recommend staying here.

Well maintained Hotel with private parking. The guys were really welcoming and helped us with sorting out buses and directions. Advised us about eating out with excellent results (Fishers on old docks). Excellent breakfast with lots of choice, well cooked and served. Lots of little extras in room. We had a very small room in the roof but it was comfortable and suited us fine. It was nice and cool in the hot weather as we could open the roof window. There are much bigger rooms for a higher p... We are just home for a weekendish (Sat - Mon) break. I had done some homework on decent places to stay in Edinburgh/Leith that were reasonably priced and was not disappointed. When we first arrived we walked through the stunning little garden, that was very fragrant and welcomed us to the Hotel. If only there had been seating there it would be lovely to sit in and watch the world go by. We were greeted in the lobby by a lovely gentlemen. He took the time to give us the lay of the land and ... Read more

We stayed here for two nights and found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Our room was a little cramped, but had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. The decor, although appropriate for a Victorian house, is somewhat tired and the skirting boards could definitely do with a good clean. There was also rather a stale smell in the room, possibly because it gets insufficient airing. As the hotel is at a very busy crossroads, it is quite noisy at times, even with secondary gl... This hotel is a little outdated, but we would still stay again. Great value for the cost and easy access to the city center. The staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay, although breakfast service starting at 8:30am was not very convenient.

This was a lovely surprise. More than a B & B but not like a proper hotel, there was a homely, friendly atmosphere. The room we had was at the back overlooking the car park and was quiet although the house is situated on two main roads. The breakfast room was lovely, very elegant and yet welcoming. Situation was perfect for getting into town by bus and only 15 minutes walk from some excellent choices of restaurant down at Leith. The bed was very comfortable, and that is saying a lot for me as I... Read more
