Rooms are clean and spacious enough. Tea/coffee cattle works, so does WI-FI. Looks far from main attractions in London but has two train stations (East and West Croydon) on walking distance. The tram is even nearer. Breakfast is O.K. if the Chinese group wouldn't eat everything away. There are two elevators for 8 people each (written inside) but take half of it (reception instructions) and one doesn't work the second day. The town centre is near and you needn't be bored even if you stay in Croyd... Read more

I booked the Holiday Inn Express Croydon for a business trip. The check in was average apart from staff having a one-to-one discussion whilst they were trying to check me in - certainly did not have their full attention and it was perfunctory. The room was okay and clean. Breakfast although 'complimentary' was incredibly poor. Low quality coffee, no butter only low fat spread, cheese tray had a label on and no contents, milk splashed all over the work surface, tables that had not been wipe... Read more

There were hairs in the bed when I pulled back the cover - I slept on a towel in the bed There was no milk in the room to make a coffee When I was departing the hotel - paid my bill - gave the lady behind the reception desk the "what can we do better" card that was left in the room - she looked at the card tutted and threw it behind the desk I left my name on the card in case they want to get hold of me. I stay in 1 or 2 hotels a week - Sorry, this one is not one I will go back to.

I know some other reviewers had issues but not on my stay. I was there one night, walked over from East Croydon railway station (7mins) and had a nice, quiet, large, clean and reasonably priced room. Continental breakfast was pretty standard and unremarkable for this type of chain hotel - it did what it needed to do without any frills. Bed was comfy, shower worked well, everything worked in my room, check-out was efficient, staff were friendly, place was clean. For me, it was a flawless stay an... Read more

I was here with a group of school students, so I assume it was an economical hotel. The staff was pleasant and the rooms were VERY clean. What else is important when you are just sleeping there. The breakfast was adequate also. I went to the bar one night and the service was horrible. It is connected to the front desk. I stood there while four people stood around and talked. They could plainly see me. I had to ask if I could get a glass of wine. Then I got about 3 ounces of wine. The location wa... Read more

We booked this hotel because the reviews looked decent. Right away we were not impressed with customer service. When we got into the room we were trying to settle even though it smelled musty and like smoke. It was a non smoking room. I turned on the sink and the water came splashing out of the pipes and onto my feet. Called the front desk and they did change our rooms right away. Our new room had an AC unit but it never cooled down. I sweated the whole first night. Told front desk said they wou... Read more

We stayed at this hotel for one night while we were on our way to watch the Derby at Epsom. We had car problems on the way and when we actually arrived we were stressed to say the least. The staff were brilliant, one made a cup of tea for my wife and the young man on the desk helped me out with the car parking. When we had eventually sorted out the car we went into Croydon for something to eat then we returned to the hotel for a drink. There was a very friendly atmosphere in the bar area which ... Read more

Express by Holiday Inn. A pretty standard offering. That's the point really. You get what you get. So in terms of stars you should expect between 3 and 4 but never 5 or 2. Ater all you know what you should expect. Right? So, what makes the difference? Staff, Location and so on... I've stayed in a number of Express and this one was probably a little worse than average. I think it was the fact that my hotel room was clearly in need of a little TLC. Time for a refurb I think.

The check in was excruciating slow - and this has happened before when I've booked hotel.com - because they couldn't find the booking although everything had been paid in advance. So may be the problem is not with the hotel but with the booking website. The hotel is a standard, no frills, Holiday Inn Express and since the location is Croydon town centre I imagine most clients would be there for business and not a get-away-from-it-all romantic break cos romantic it ain't. The hotel isn't in the greatest of areas, whilst we unloaded the car two police vans had blocked the road and were dealing with an incident nearby. It's quite a noisy location when it comes to getting sleep aswell. The hotel is quite tired, with furnishings needing replacing, and the bed itself was one of the worst. The bathroom was nice and clean but we only had a shower. There was a fan and complimentary ear plugs which came in handy. I recently completed an EF tour with my students through 4 European countries, ending in London. All of the hotels in Germany, Switzerland, and Paris were lovely. This was terrible. As usual, staff were courteous and hotel was clean ... basic pre requisites; however, we went there to sleep and that was the problem as we didn't!
