We were concerned over other comments regarding the food here, but to our surprise all was very good I.E had evening meal and breakfast (inc sausage, beans and scrambled egg - all hot) all very good and served extremely well considering many people were eating at the same time. The new guy (said he'd only been working here for two months) was brilliant, booking in late arrivals whilst serving all drinks and clearing the tables of glasses and plates etc. Room was clean and tidy - a well run hotel... We booked this hotel for the proximity to a wedding we were attending and did not expect great things considering the price, including breakfast.,We were , however, pleasantly surprised to find that it far exceeded our expectations. The two young men on reception were a delight, efficient, friendly and welcoming. Our room was immaculate with a spotless bathroom with huge shower. The lighting in the room was especially good as some hotels rooms are rather gloomy. A cab was booked for us with mini... Read more

Another great stay! Comfy bed, breakfast included would have liked bacon though! Evening meal not as expected but very good and enjoyable . Shower was brilliant. Staff very pleasant. This is the 3rd time I've stayed in this hotel and would definitely go again

Was down for an overnight and late arrival. Required to be in Ipswich early the next morning . Arrived at Stansted on the last flight from Glasgow. Chose this place due to being close to Ipswich on the road from the airport. No problems at check in and got to the room and was out for the count. A comfortable room on the ground floor. Early rise, great hot shower, easy check out and more than enough choice for breakfast. My wife and daughter likely to be down at the end of June to look for a f... Read more

We used this accommodation as a base for visiting the zoo and a couple of other places - room was very clean and spacious and quiet. Parking was no problem. Breakfast a little disappointing, but as a self serve breakfast goes I guess it was all at least edible - didn't have evening meals there as felt a little on the pricey side. Would recommend as a good place to stay.

We spent three nights at this hotel whilst visiting family. A warm and genuine welcome from Mary on checking in, and pleasant 'hellos' from all the staff when we passed the reception desk over the time spent in the hotel. Very comfortable bed with a choice of pillows, abundant hot water and a great power shower. Only question ... what was the blue LED light in the bathroom for? Satisfactory breakfast, with quality tea. Staff were very quick to clear tables and refill the choices. It migh... Read more

Out of the way but pleasant budget hotel. It is pretty bulk standard Holiday inn express but that said the staff are really pleasant and try hard to please. If you need to stay in this locality then this hotel is good value. The bed in our room was not the greatest but then we only stayed for 2 nights. Convenient for Colchester and Ipswich tourism sights or for business trips on a budget.

The staff working in this Hotel are great, I can't fault them. Hotel is not meant for family,is really good if you're a couple. This hotel gave me facility to check in online which was great, but I don't think they take note of any request you put on your online check in. They knew the number of guests in the room, the sofa bed in the room was not done up upon arrival, we had to ring the reception to get it done. Breakfast is too basic, this is not the usual standards of Holiday Inn have been in ... Read more

It was a fairly quiet night I could here the traffic in the back ground but it wasn't a problem. Although some doors were banging late at night and again early morning. Plenty of cereals , toast yoghurts etc. We got a bit lost trying to find the hotel and should of carried on the main road and turned in by the shell garage instead sat nav took us off too early and we went down some country roads late at... This is a surprising hotel, tucked back just of the A12, next to a petrol station and small industrial estate, I thought 'what have I done, another ruined nights sleep'. No a bit of it!, The staff are welcoming, polite and actually charming. The public areas are bright, spotlessly clean and well laid out. The patio area at the back of the hotel, well laid out and quiet, although the A12 is only a 100 yards away. Plenty of seating, very nice to a spend time outside with a drink, after a long driv... Hidden behind a petrol station and just off the southbound A12 I was surprised to find a very comfortable and clean budget hotel. The room was well appointed, althought the bed/mattress wasn't hugely comfortable as it was a bit too soft for my liking. The pleasant bar/dining area served a passable chilli and rice. Breakfast was buffet style, a cold selection of pastries, yoghurt, fruit, and cereals, and a hot choice of scrambled egg, baked beans and sausages (personally would have liked som... Read more

Good location for visiting colchester and surrounding areas. Also good for visiting colchester football club - just up the dual carriage way a few miles away. Tip don't park on any roads near football ground or you get a parking ticket like us! Even though there are no yellow lines. Rooms clean, breakfast good. Stayed for 2 days. Didn't see any bus stops so need a car. Petrol station on site. Would go again if I ever visit colchester again.

My husband myself, sister and her partner stayed over the weekend we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was spotless the rooms well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and in the bathroom the shower was very impressive with shower gel and shampoo provided. The staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble to finish off our stay we had a good choice of breakfast which was piping hot all in all a very enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Holiday Inn Express covers all bases and there's a handy garage next door. Really easy to find. About 15 mins taxi into Colchester. Return cab cost us £15 at 1am so pretty reasonable. Rooms include everything you need and there's a handy sofa bed for a third person and you can get extra bedding at the front desk. The staff are awesome, really friendly, helpful and non judgemental when we arrived late and slightly worse for wear!

Me and my girlfriend stayed in this great hotel on a recent trip around London/Colchester. The hotel is located just north of Colchester but is still within a reasonable driving distance from everything Colchester has to offer; we used this hotel after a day in London, prior to visiting Colchester Zoo the next day and it was perfect for the intended use. We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights recently. As other people have said it is a little difficult to find. In fact whilst we were there people were phoning to ask directions ! We enjoyed a very good stay here with a very comfortable room.Despite being adjacent to the very busy A12, we had no problems with noise, even with the window open. One night we opted for a meal from the limited menu and this was excellent. Like all Holiday Inn Express breakfasts, don't expect too much. It is possible to find things that are palatable but cordon bleu it is not.

My room was spacious and the shower was not only large but due to the quantity and placement of shelves it was possibly the best I have ever had in a hotel. My room was over the car park and facing the main road but was very quiet all the same. Almost no noise could be heard from other rooms. Breakfast (included in the price) was basic but filling. All the staff I encountered were friendly and extremely helpful - not just fulfilling specific requests but offering solutions themselves.

I stayed here whilst working at a motorsport event in the local area. Firstly the location, it's behind a Shell garage on the A12 (London bound), if you're approaching the hotel eastbound it involves turning off the A12 into Langham village, then following road signs for Colchester, which brings you back to the A12 towards Colchester, you'll then see the Holiday Inn sign. It's not a problem as its only a small detour, but you may think your sat nav is sending you the wrong way! As always wit... Read more

The room was clean and comfy. The bathroom had an enormous beautifully tiled shower cubicle, unfortunately the shower itself was a bit of a disappointment. Also i could not get a signal on my phone in the room. It was really hot during our stay and the Aircon worked but never got really cold. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you need to drive to go to restaurants if you do not want to use the hotel. We went into Colchester for dinner. Overall it was good for an overnight stay.

Staff were friendly and efficient on arrival. We had a good night's sleep in a quality room. Good bed and great bathroom with large shower. The air-con was a godsend in the hot weather too. The only let down for us was breakfast. Loads of 'continental' choice, but the only hot option was sausage, scrambled egg and beans. Bit of a disappointment for such a large chain of hotels.

You get what you pay for I suppose. Stayed with my sister she took the double so I was on the incredibly uncomfortable sofa bed. Very flat pillows. Didn't really sleep at all for two nights. Cleaners do a real basic job, pretty much just make the beds, my sister left some rubbish on the bed and they made the bed around it which was odd. Just off A12 southbound and , at £60 per night, reasonably priced for the area. Clean, tidy and modern building, everything worked correctly, probably a little soulless to eat alone inside restaurant so I went a short drive to find excellent curry house 20 minutes away. Check in process fast enough but later discovered, as an IHG Platinum member, I was offered neither 500 points or a free drink as is normally the case. Maybe use again when in area.

We have booked two rooms and paid several weeks in advance. We arrived at midnight. A very rude receptionist told us that one of the rooms was vandalized and the police has closed the room with an order of no entrance. He refused to show us the room door. I was obvious lie.
