nice hotel, quite dated rooms that need updating but clean and comfy. Bar area open 24hrs which was good. staff friendly and very helpful.. breakfast is definitely worth having.. like a buffet style all you can eat and was really lovely.. pleanty of choice.. taxi into chester centre about £6 and only takes about ten mins. we paid £20 extra for late check out which is 6pm we thought that was exellent!

We stayed at this hotel only got one night but were satisfied. Two couples on a leisure trip, the hotel was clean, good location, about 40 mins walk in Chester or a 10 min taxi ride. Good selection of beer, nice breakfast. The staff are helpful and curtious. We would stay here again.

We Stayed at The Mercure Abotts Well for a long weekend break, visit probably what is England's finest zoo, and just generally chill. From check in to check out every part of our stay was faultless, the staff all friendly, cheerful, and helpfull, and the food great - we had a couple of breakfasts and a couple of early dinners. The pool is good for swimming and also has a baby pool, there is a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna along with the gym, all open early till late and complementary for guests.... Read more

stayed here for two nights early may very nice stay. Hotel is very nicely situated to road links and super easy to find First night after a quite expensive pint £4:50, we decided to have evening meal at the harvester 100 yds down the road not that great and as it turned out more expensive meal than the mercure ! We ate at the mercure second night and the food was quite delicious well worth the £17 per head for two courses absolutely first class as was the fantastic buffet breakfast , pretty ... Read more

So French, no wardrobes - I can cope with that and just the hangers, though I didn't dare risk my hanging garment bag - but no bedside light!!! Too much for an insomniac bookworm . Wouldn't have been a choice except on our route there wasn't any other choice so ... We were pleasantly surprised by the standard of cooking and the location is actually quite pretty, backing onto fields on the edge of Chester. And the bed was comfortable and the room very clean. Staff were courteous and efficient.

We enjoyed our 2 nights here, the breakfast was very good and we ate at the restaurant one of the nights We really enjoyed walking along the canals as their were some lovely old pubs nearby This hotel is relatively close to town if you have a car, so we found that handy as well

The hotel is clean & comfortable, with some of the most helpful and friendly staff have ever come across, even if the bar staff have a propensity to disappear every so often. The food is good, especially breakfast, and I just love their take on Eton Mess. Bed was comfortable, room was not huge, but adequate. We did not try the poo, so cannot comment. Overall, we had a wonderful time, and will almost certainly return.

Good points: nice breakfast Bad points: Very dated room with chipped enamel on bath and radiator, dirty shower head, stains on shower curtain, large section of bath panel looked like it had been chewed by a rat with sharp edges, shoddy paintwork in room and very dirty window. Stayed here for 1 night & was very disappointed in the quality for the price you pay. Wish we had stayed at Premier inn as you know what you're getting for your money. Evening meal was nice but prices were high ( £15 for ... Read more

Stayed here for one night on the weekend. Evening meal was nice, we had the weekender deal which was £50 for a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for two people, good value for money. Breakfast was £10 a head, again good value for money- excellent choice of breakfast food and good quality. Drinks at the bar were abit pricey, 2 drinks were around £10. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The only downfall of the stay was the room, although it was clean and spacious it was horribly hot! Didn't... Read more

The rooms where nothing like we expected, we booked a standard double which looked quite nice & spacious on the website, but we arrived to a tiny sweat box. The room was dated, small and roasting with nothing but a tiny (not very powerful) fan to cool us down & it didn't help that the windows only opened a couple of inches. When getting ready to go out in the evenings myself & my partner where sweating, literally beads of sweat were rolling down our foreheads because to room was that hot. It ce... Read more

This is not the most attractive of properties and your perceptions of this will depend entirely on how much you pay .... The rooms are not as nice as travel lodge or premier inn...which gives you a feel for it , rooms dark and stuffy and without the fan provided somewhat suffocating. Breakfast was adequate, bar area adequate ...location adequate Basically needs a multi million refurbishment

Hotel is in a great location, just on the outskirts of the city centre, Harvester pub 2 minutes walk away on the edge of the canal. Park and ride 200yrds in the opposite direction, £2 per person return to town centre and buses run every 10mins. Hotel staff very friendly, good variety of food available which can be eaten in the bar area or in the restaurant. Nice grounds with outdoor area and beer garden. The location of the hotel is great, as it is just of the A55 and 10 mins from central Chester/Zoo. The staff are very pleasant and were nice. Our double room looked a bit old, however, we had a superking bed which was bonus. The extra space is lovely. The bed itself is not my cup of tea. It's very hard and it was differcult for myself to get comfortable. In addition to the bed, the pillows were also very bad. Another poor point was the food, it was not good and could be easily improved. My b... Read more

Chose this hotel as a birthday present for my girlfriend and spent the weekend in Chester. Couldn't really fault the location, I drove down from Wigan and it couldn't of been a much easier drive, the hotel is a 2 minute walk from a park and ride which will take you directly into the centre and is only a £2 return. Also it's only a 10 minute drive up the road from Chester Zoo if you're planning on going there. The hotel itself is quite modern and clean, the staff are very nice and helpful, t... Read more

I booked this hotel as it was just outside Chester with free parking right outside. I waited a while to be checked in and even longer to be checked out. I even called someone to come round to the desk from the office area around the back so I could pay. I had to ask a couple of times for someone to serve me at the bar area for drinks and food. The food was ok. I thought the main was a little expensive and the starter of the duck very oily. Breakfast was ok again. Think I caught it at the wrong t... Read more

I've always loved the city of Chester so as a present for my 50th birthday , my wife treated me to a three night stay in the Mercure Abbots Well . We stayed from the Sunday until Wednesday and it was a most enjoyable and relaxing experience . The rooms , although nothing spectacular were very clean and comfortable . Although we only ate dinner in the restaurant on one occasion , the quality of the food was bang on . The breakfasts were also very agreeable . Although it is quite a walk from the c... Read more

Staff left a little to be desired and left guests to their own devices to find things. Bar staff much better but again they were busy with functions and guests were second. Rooms old and small with bathrooms difficult to manoeuvre to have a shower. If you cannot climb into a high bath this hotel is not for you. Out of town a distance and bus at door costs over 7 pound return and they stop at 6pm. Park and ride bus also available but a decent walk across a very busy roundabout. We changed hotels ... Stayed here overnight. Really clean and nice open looking hotel. Typical business style. Staff helpful. All good really except the musty odour on the first floor where I stayed - which sadly lingered in the room too, despite both windows being open. for all the ok things - this is the one memory of the place I'll take away with me. £80 for a Friday night midsummer is a reasonable price if they can get that particular area (I'm sure it's not like that around all the rooms is it Mercure?) smellin... This is the second time I've stayed here good location the food was ok my only complaint really was the lack of sleep at 3.40am I still hadn't had any due to the amount of noise being made by a young party outside. Nothing to complain about at this Mercure Hotel, although I did find it rather strange at times. We were on the first floor and as far as I could see there is no lift - not great for carrying cases from the car. The room was fine with a big, big comfy bed, decent TV and clean bathroom - strangely warm though, even with the windows open and a breezy evening it was really stifling. We were given a handicap room ( which we are not ). Th e room was on the ground floor, what ever you do, do not stay in a room at the front of this hotel, it was akin to trying to sleep in the middle of a busy roundabout, i went to give voice to my displeasure at 2.20am and spoke to the night manager, he apologised and explained the noise was because they were very busy, taxis arriving and leaving, but i didnt get any sleep until after 4 am. The rooms are clean, but the bathrooms require an urgent upgrade. To get free WiFi, you have to provide access to you LinkedIn/Facebook. I personally think this is an unreasonable request. I ended up using my business mobile internet. I never ate in the hotel therefore I cannot make any comment.

Nice rooms, nice food, good pool, lovely garden at the back with pleasant views, great breakfast. My family and I stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting Chester zoo (only 3.5 miles away). It was a nice experience overall. Let down a little by the service. We noticed smashed glass on the floor and told the waiter. It was still there 3 hours later despite children playing nearby. We spent one night at this hotel as the ones we usually use in Chester were unavailable. The overall feel of the building is one of a portacabin due to the rickety floors and flimsy construction. The bedroom was serviceable but very shabby and in need of updating but the shower was hopeless. You get what you pay for so we weren't expecting the Ritz and therefore weren't disappointed with this budget hotel. It was clean but with dated decor and fittings. But, it was only a bed for the night not a longer stay. Breakfast a bit steep at £11 for a buffet. A big plus was the 3 minute walk to the Park And Ride, £2 return trip. We also visited the zoo which was 10 mins drive away. Would we stay there again? Probably.
