This hotel was perfectly situated right in the middle of Chester. The hotel looks over the Roman amphitheatre and is surrounded by all the historic parts of Chester (cathedral, chester walls etc). We also visited Chester Zoo and thought it was amazing, only a ten minute drive away. The hotel is also situated right next to the high street which is full of shops and plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. Hickorys Steakhouse (2 minutes walk away) was recommended to us by the very helpful ... Read more

on 23/08/15 - we drove from Sheffield to Cheshire Oaks for shopping which was fantastic..we then went onto Chester to meet friends (group of 8), we stayed at the travel Lodge which was central (no parking) although the multi story car park is not to far away and subsidised by hotel. Hotel Clean friendly staff and central to the bars etc. had a great night out and about it was a Sunday so quieter in town but we found a karaoke bar and a wither spoons pub for breeky next day (short walk away). all... I'll start by saying the location is perfect - it's within a central location & surrounded by restaurants and bars. The room was up to standard, clean & had everything I needed for one nights stay. The reception staff were brilliant, so friendly and they did everything they could to help - from bringing a ironing board to my room to helping me when I had an issue with the WiFi. Overall, it was fine for an overnights stay.

Booked and paid for 3 nights and stayed for 1 night. Positive points. Central location Members of staff I met were pleasant and helpful and did there best to help Bed was comfortable with clean bedding Negative points. Shabby, very basic place smelling strongly of chemical cleaning fluid Noise levels awful; the building has a pub underneath and clubs and other pubs very close by. Sound proofing and glazing has been skimpt on, hence the noise levels outside and inside were awful. The road is ... Read more

Ideal location, central to everything. We were invited the carpets in the walk ways had been cleaned so to expect a smell - this was a damp musty and not clean smell however did it not permeate into our room. We were on the second floor at the front over looking the road. Quiet, we slept well but would've appreciated thicker curtains and pillows. Would use again. Staff were pleasant and polite and accommodating when we enquired re the multi storey car park - we got £5 off the car park bill whi... Read more

Booked a family room for just £31 at this Travelodge, with a great location directly opposite the Roman Amphitheatre and very close to the City Wall. Parking is across the road at Pepper Street car park, with a discount from the hotel it was £10 for 24 hour stay. We had a very large family room. As usual the windows did not open (always a shame) but there was very effective air conditioning which helped. Double bed was quite comfortable, the two single put-me-up beds were a bit springy but... Read more

A very good place to stay. Unfortunately even if you stay during the week at the reasonable rate, you are still expected to pay the very high charge Of £135 on Saturday, therefore, as a pensioner we cut short our stay and went home a day earlier than we wanted.

Fresh, new travelodge in central Chester in excellent proximity to attractions and cycling routes. The staff went out of their way to help us store our wet and muddy bikes and were concerned to make us feel welcome. They advised on local restaurants and were knowledgeable.

The hotel was ideally located to explore Chester, staff were friendly and beds were comfortable. The hotel smelt strongly off disinfectant which put me off a little, I can only imagine it was to disguise the smell off vomit from people returning after a night out. The hotel could do with a little freshen up, but for the price you couldn't really complain. Great base to stay when visiting Chester. I had a room overlooking the amphitheatre which was even more beautiful when lit up at night. It was a very quiet room and heard no noise from outside. Although I did not need to use it, there is an air conditioning unit in the room which I am sure is a bonus in the warmer months. Highly recommended

A standard Travelodge lay out of room and building, possibly updated in the last few years. the rooms were clean and fresh with the standard king size bed, TV and tea/coffee making facilitates. A full range of meals are available in the Travelodge, we had the pre-booked breakfast, which was a nice meal. Parking is in a nearby Pay & Display car park, no on site parking available

I have used this hotel for most of my trips into Chester, only the last time did I have a room which was on the St John's St side, a big mistake when the Students are in Party Mode! It was noisy until 2am. Make sure you're away from that side of the building and you should be fine, the rooms are large and spacey, but unfortunately no Air Con and the windows didn't open. No breakfast on site, but there are a number of establishments nearby.

The bedroom are very simple. A coat gander rail and small shelf is all you get for storage so if you are planning on spending a few days in Chester you will be living out of your suitcase. There are no bathroom cups. Only 1 double power point available (well away from the mirror). Bed was orthopaedic and not too comfortable. No on site breakfast facilities or bar. The rooms while fine and of a standard you would expect the heat was unacceptable and must be a design issue with the building. Free water and a fan was provided but it does make for a tougher experience than you would expect. The first night we had a hen party on our floor and while I can forgive the noise at 2am the disruption at 5am was out of order. The staff while sympathetic admitted they were powerless to do anything but it was okay at they would not be there the 2nd night of our stay.

I was somewhat disappointed in this hotel. Travelodge have a good reputation yet I felt this feel far short of that reputation. The receptionists were very helpful. the room is my area of dissatisfaction. The floor hadn't been clean properly as I found hair grips. The quilt cover had a far sized blood stain. The extra beds in the room were very uncomfortable, something that I had mentioned in a previous review in respect of Travelodge. Glad I was only staying one night.

The hotel is basic but our room was spotless and the bathroom was compact but more than adequate. This hotel is a good solid hotel, cleanliness is fine, considering it's a town centre hotel and we stayed on a Friday night I thought that there might be noise from party go-ers, but we were not affected at all. The hotel wasn't the cleanest Travelodge we stayed in, there was dust in the corners of the rooms and under the beds, but it wasn't too bad. The toilet seat was also loose, but we survived. I stayed at this Travelodge for just one night during the week with my girlfriend and we were both satisfied with our stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful (wherever required) and the hotel was very welcoming when we first checked in. The only flaws with our stay was the lack of bath tub and limited natural light coming into the room.

The room itself was nice enough and this hotel is very central. However, the sound proofing is pretty awful and I woke up many times in the night with people outside and coming home. The bar next door started blaring music at 4am and the receptionist did call after I complained to get it turned down. However, there was no phone in the room. why?! I had to pop down in my PJs. The music was turned off but I really felt I was staying in a party hostel! I also stored luggage and got no ticket/name ... Read more

Excellent location. We had a family room, so know what to expect from a Travelodge or premier inn. The room was clean. The hotel offers discounted parking at the multi storey down the road which is great, and the location of the hotel is excellent. Right next to the city walls, and a short walk from the shops or the river. Really can't argue about the value of our stay.

The Travelodge was centrally located, with a big, clean, family room. Staff were extremely helpful and we were allowed to leave our luggage before check-in time. Only downside was that my single bed was hard and bumpy, although I believe other beds ok. Apart from this minor point would definitely recommend this travelodge as a base to stay. Another minor point would like to see same price for all rooms rather than higher price for a family roim.

Checked in straight away by a very pleasant young lady the room for my twin brother Stephen and I was superb with a large double bed ( i claimed that ) and two pull out beds. A large room with tea and coffee making facilities and a T.V. The location could not be better and from our window we looked out onto the Roman Amphitheatre . The hotel also has a Pitchor ... I am writing this from my bed currently staying in the travel lodge!! Iv travelled the world and stayed in quieter hostels than this place! Our room is right outside the busy and very noisey nightclubs, not to mention the amount of popping exhausts flying past every two seconds! We are staying here ready for the race day tomorrow. We asked to be moved but the staff did very little and said there were no other rooms to move too. I wouldn't mind but it wasn't even that cheap to stay here, but righ... Read more

Nothing wrong with service, decor etc.Stayed here before. We had a family room so my friend was in double and me and my friend was in the tiny makeshift bed's....My bed was awful it was at an angle so it felt like I was climbing in my sleep and we both needed extra duvet so springs didn't come through.I know it's a budget hotel but when I've been before they have been proper single beds not like tiny kids camping beds ! Room 210 would like a response.

This travelodge is in an ideal location being opposite the Roman Amphitheatre - use the directions to the amphitheatre to find the hotel, it is about a 15 minute walk from the railway station and a 5 minute walk to the centre of Chester where there are many places to eat. The hotel was clean though a bit stuffy as it is impossible to open the windows for fresh air. However we were given rooms overlooking the amphitheatre which was very attractive when lit up at night. This one does not disappoint and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. A Travelodge which is everything you could expect (or not) from the brand. The beds are comfy and the room amenities work. I don't know what the building used to be, but it features unusually high ceilings. When in a room facing the street, this height seems to amplify the noise from traffic and it seems at times like being inside a loudspeaker cabinet. The room itself was lovely with a great view overlooking the Roman Amphitheatre. When we arrived back from our evening out for an early night at .945pm there was very loud thudding dance music from the bar next door that went on until 12pm. The sound carried through to our second floor room on a Monday night and we were told that it was student night in the bar and that there was no possibly of changing rooms to be further away from the noise. To be upfront, this is actually an OK hotel (good location, inexpensive, comfortable bed etc). However, the shower tray is absolutely lethal. It's so slippery that we both struggled to stay upright. We asked at the front desk for an anti-slip mat, but were fobbed off. This is clearly not a new problem as there was a warning sign in the shower. Needless to say, a sign isn't going to add any traction. The management need to address this issue before someone has a serious accident. Other comments... Read more
