Went here in may for the weekend, about a 10 mins walk to the very centre of Chester town so good location. It is extremely clean and staff are friendly. Rooms are nice and simple and have all you need and up to date. Only thing is that a couple of sockets and hair dryer wouldn't turn on, but over all great

Fantastic location on the racecourse but if your room is facing the road OMG is it noisy. I should have guessed before I opened the window as they provided ear plugs!!!! The breakfast was adequate only 3 hot choices but lots of other lovely goodies. Unlimited hot drinks all day which was a real bonus. The staff were exceptional and when I stated that the bed was a little small they immediately arranged for a second bed to be made up. Lovely large room as I had asked for an accessible room which ... Read more

My family and I use the Holiday Inn Express hotels regularly but this one really had one of the best locations to date. Right next to the racecourse and a ten minute walk into Chester city centre. This chain is constant with regard to cleanliness and the quality of rooms on offer. We were given a family room overlooking the racecourse and although there were no meetings this weekend, there was a polo match on which we could see quite clearly from our window. The breakast is always the same with ... Read more

- and there was plenty of manure locally available, by the smell of it. Room was fine, very clean, rather noisy if the windows opened, but on a main road, so unavoidable. Breakfast not very brilliant, usual buffet style. Cereals, fruit, and then sausage, baked beans, scrambled egg are the only choices.

Good location on the racecourse, easy and plentiful free parking and only a five minute walk into the city centre. The rooms are being refurbished 3 at a time at the moment but any work was unobtrusive and to be fair the un refurbished rooms are clean and tidy anyway! We had a second floor room which was on the front, railway corner (if you ggogle the hotel you'll see what I mean) but either the trains run by especially quietly or the double glazing is pretty effective as they didn't intrude in... If you are just looking for a short stay this is a great hotel - the clue is in the name 'Express'! The rooms are new, clean and functional and there is WIFI throughout the hotel. It is a short walk to the city centre so it's a perfect location in terms of convenience. Breakfast is adequate and is self serve. It has free car parking and is good value for money.

We stayed here after reading the great reviews online. Newly refurbished rooms, racecourse location, free parking, stone's throw from the city & it didn't disappoint! However during the night the fire alarms went off several times, then the electrics came on & off & completely ruined our night as we didn't sleep a wink! We reported it to reception in the morning after breakfast who didn't seem interested at all & said they would have maintenance take a look. I feel terrible having to write this as t... Read more

After 5 night stop at holiday inn chester racecourse have to say thoroughly enjoyed. The staff are fantastic nothing to much trouble. After reading reviews was a little concerned about trains passing but we were right over the railway lines never a problem. Complimentary breakfast more than adequate. Only down side bed could of been better but being picky

Although there is a refit underway we were not disturbed by this as its planned for 10am - 4pm. A typical Holiday Inn but a fantastic location, a 100m walk from the town centre and literally 'on the racecourse' with free parking. I'd recommend this hotel purely down to its location but it also comes with all the usual Holiday Inn basics

We went for a couple of nights to Chester and stayed here. It was my birthday on the second day and as we checked in the lovely guy checking us in asked why we were there and when I said its my birthday tomorrow he asked what wine I liked because they would put a bottle in the room for us. He also gave us a refurbished room overlooking the racecourse, which was really lovely. On the morning of my birthday we went down for breakfast and he was working again and made the effort to come to our tabl... Read more

Just returned from a weekend stay as a family break. The hotel is very well located, with only a few minutes walk into the middle of the city centre, and all that Chester offers. The first thing we noticed, and became ever more apparent during our stay, was the excellent customer service and care afforded by all the reception staff and breakfast support staff. They are multi tasking and meet all your needs with a smile and politeness. Our room was one of the rooms awaiting refurbishment, on the ... Read more

Very nice hotel. Sithated close to the city, just a short distance for walking and even shorter in a car or taxI. Good value for money and a really nice room. Breakfast was nice and it was all you can eat.

We were expecting the usual HIX standards. Where to begin? The room was very small and pretty much of Ibis standard. No plug socket by the bed. Very noisy from outside. The room overlooked Chester race course which was nice. There is also a train line and a busy road outside the window. We could hear the traffic and trains loud and clear. Obs no double glazing here. In the morning, we made a coffee but there was no spoon to stir it with. So coffee was cancelled. The bathroom was tiny and not ve... Read more

Having stayed at other Holiday Express, we knew what to expect. Great value for money. The rooms have recently been refurbished, the new bathrooms are lovely. Standard Holiday Express rooms with the same facilities, ours was a decent sized room with a sofa which can be used as a sofa bed if necessary. Spacious lounge are which had the Euro football showing. Breakfast is included with hot and cold buffet style food. What is brilliant about this Holiday Express is location, on Chester Race... Great location to visit this lovely city, free onsite parking and short stroll to main areas. Had lovely refurbished room on 3rd floor, very modern and comfortable with nice bathroom, comfortable bed and fluffy white towels. Nice bright bar area, usual basic breakfast selection (which is adequate for me). Friendly helpful reception staff

Just stayed the one night. The room was small and clean. The walls are a bit thin, but ok for the price. I am pleased there was not a race meet on as I am sure it would be noisy with the race goers coming back.

Booked a one night Sunday break. Hotel easy to get to and ideally placed for City centre. Easy parking. Had booked a twin room as originally my daughter was coming with me but husband came instead. Unable to change as hotel was full. Room was fine, overlooked racecourse. I asked for some decaf tea bags but they weren't available and the milk was full fat. There may have been semi skimmed but I never asked. Free 'I' newspaper in the morning. We had a room with a connecting door. Try to get one wi... Read more

Ideally placed to explore Chester or to have a day at the races. Free on site parking. Chester town centre literally 5 minutes stroll away. Lovely room on the 3rd floor (road side) Modern contemporary furniture, with a very comfy bed. Brand new fluffy towels in bathroom. Good hot powerful shower. Nice choice of options at breakfast from full english to fresh fruit salad and danish pastries. Reception staff very friendly and helpful if required.

We we appalled by the behaviour of someone named Angela on reception who claimed to be the night manager. We failed to witness any managerial skills nor manners whatsoever from this woman. She telephoned our room at midnight, waking us both up claiming she had a complaint from the room next door and if we did not turn the TV off she threatened to come up and stand outside our door to listen to us. I was gobsmacked. I informed her she had just woken us so there wasn't a tv on, nor any noise but ... Read more

I'd wanted some inexpensive accommodation for a night in Chester and this place was ideal. This was my second visit. On the good side; the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was a good size, clean, bright and we'll equipped. On the poor side; when I checked in at 14:00 there was no hot water for a shower. The free coffee is overpriced, it's awful, I didn't get close to finishing it and had to go somewhere else to get something drinkable. The hot breakfast options were not great. By all... Read more

We fancied a last minute trip to Chester over the weekend and decided to book an overnight stay. Checked out the availability of HIE at Chester Racecourse and booked online for the following evening. Great value at £62 for room and breakfast. A group of us stayed here for a day at the races. The hotel itself was as expected for a holiday Inn. Location was the major attraction. The reason for the 3 stars was the price. For what we paid, you would definitely expect more. Being raceday though was expected.

Booked in for four nights in double bedded ensuite room with nice shower. Good sized room and ensuite but not much room to hang clothes and they're on open view. Comfortable bed with choice of soft or hard pillows. Had a refurbished room, which was very good but there's a lot of traffic noise, seems that it's best to get a room on the racecourse side of the hotel. Pleasant lounge room with tv. Good breakfast with choice of serials and hot food together with fruit, coffee or tea. On the whole pr... Read more

It's not the Savoy but this is a really good basic hotel with all you need. Good central location. I was surprised by the free carpark. Nice friendly welcome by reception staff. Good quality rooms nicely done all very clean and tidy. Large open bar and lounge on ground floor. Would not win any design awards but perfectly good for a short stay. Room 216. I booked the hotel through booking.com for one night after visiting some friends and family. We were pleasantly greeted at reception and checked in quite swiftly. A few benefits of the hotel (especially for a ridiculously hot day) was the on site ice machine. A real life saver considering 30 degree heat and the ice machine is not too common in the other hotels I've stayed in previously. Another is free on site parking and free WiFi. A negative was that because I booked a standard ... Read more

The hotel was easy to find, plenty of free parking, rooms were clean and modern. Staff were all lovely abs nerdy helpful, good prices at the hotel bar for drinks. The only little gripe would be the breakfast, hectic, busy and the cooked food not great quite cold and not the best quality but not terrible the great staff and good nights sleep made up for the lilttle issue around breakfast
