Went here in may for the weekend, about a 10 mins walk to the very centre of Chester town so good location. It is extremely clean and staff are friendly. Rooms are nice and simple and have all you need and up to date. Only thing is that a couple of sockets and hair dryer wouldn't turn on, but over all great

Fantastic location on the racecourse but if your room is facing the road OMG is it noisy. I should have guessed before I opened the window as they provided ear plugs!!!! The breakfast was adequate only 3 hot choices but lots of other lovely goodies. Unlimited hot drinks all day which was a real bonus. The staff were exceptional and when I stated that the bed was a little small they immediately arranged for a second bed to be made up. Lovely large room as I had asked for an accessible room which ... Read more

My family and I use the Holiday Inn Express hotels regularly but this one really had one of the best locations to date. Right next to the racecourse and a ten minute walk into Chester city centre. This chain is constant with regard to cleanliness and the quality of rooms on offer. We were given a family room overlooking the racecourse and although there were no meetings this weekend, there was a polo match on which we could see quite clearly from our window. - and there was plenty of manure locally available, by the smell of it. Room was fine, very clean, rather noisy if the windows opened, but on a main road, so unavoidable. Breakfast not very brilliant, usual buffet style. Cereals, fruit, and then sausage, baked beans, scrambled egg are the only choices.

Good location on the racecourse, easy and plentiful free parking and only a five minute walk into the city centre. The rooms are being refurbished 3 at a time at the moment but any work was unobtrusive and to be fair the un refurbished rooms are clean and tidy anyway! We had a second floor room which was on the front, railway corner (if you ggogle the hotel you'll see what I mean) but either the trains run by especially quietly or the double glazing is pretty effective as they didn't intrude in... If you are just looking for a short stay this is a great hotel - the clue is in the name 'Express'! The rooms are new, clean and functional and there is WIFI throughout the hotel. It is a short walk to the city centre so it's a perfect location in terms of convenience. Breakfast is adequate and is self serve. It has free car parking and is good value for money.

We stayed here after reading the great reviews online. Newly refurbished rooms, racecourse location, free parking, stone's throw from the city & it didn't disappoint! However during the night the fire alarms went off several times, then the electrics came on & off & completely ruined our night as we didn't sleep a wink! Although there is a refit underway we were not disturbed by this as its planned for 10am - 4pm. A typical Holiday Inn but a fantastic location, a 100m walk from the town centre and literally 'on the racecourse' with free parking. I'd recommend this hotel purely down to its location but it also comes with all the usual Holiday Inn basics

The free of charge parking and wifi were big bonuses and the location was perfect; just a short walk into the beautiful city of Chester. The room was clean and modern and we slept well in the comfy bed. All the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful - on our second day we asked to borrow an iron from reception and one was brought up to our room within a couple of minutes. As w... Read more

Stayed here for a night out round Chester and found this advertised on Late rooms but ended up booking with the hotel direct as it was the same price (£85). Perfectly located in walking distance to Chester town centre with plenty of parking (which is good as parking isn't cheap in Chester!). When we booked in we were asked what our purpose of the visit was, and the man who booked us in kindly pointed out a couple of bars to visit which was very helpful. I would recommend Kuckoo for the cocktai... Read more

Our first stay here, a couple of minutes walk into chester, free parking and an amazing view of the racecourse, the room was lovely, only let down by our toiletries running out and not replaced as requested, and a very poor breakfast.......take your own shampoo and go to a coffee shop for breakfast and you will have a lovely stay here.

Comfortable bedroom which was recently re-furbed. Modest choice but nonetheless the included buffet breakfast was very good.Breakfast finished at 10.00 and on one of my three days it was a bit short of choice after 9.30 Did not use the bar which was near to the reception.

This hotel was situated in an ideal spot for either the races or shopping & sightseeing. The rooms are as you would expect. Clean, comfortable although if you have to use the sofa bed that is a bit hard. Breakfast was good. There was plenty to eat & it was regularly filled up by the staff. Yes it would have been nice to have a bit of bacon with the hot food but there was still plenty to fill even the largest appetites. The staff were all very friendly & helpful especially Grahame on the desk who... Read more

On booking I requested a quiet, refurbished room overlooking the racecourse. I received confirmation from the duty manager about my request. On arrival at the hotel we were shown to our room which overlooked the side main road, as I could hear the traffic I went to reception to request a change of room. I have to say the receptionist could not have been more helpful after a long search we changed our room and they came up with us to check if we were happy a good result. The room was well furnish... Reception fine, room clean, bathroom okay. There was an intermittent noise like an extraction fan ( room 321), not in our room but you could hear it. Breakfast, buffet style, sadly not hot. Scrambled eggs, had been there sometime. Free parking and only five minutes walk from the centre of the city.

We were up for the metric marathon at the racecourse, so couldn't have been more convenient. The breakfast was OK without being outstanding, though no porridge (though most runners had brought their own). It was also close enough to town, and about 20 minutes walk or so to the station. The room was very clean and comfortable with a good shower, good TV reception. There was however a strange intermittent noise in the evening, something like an extractor, but it didn't stay on at night. Un... Read more

Came here for a night away with my partner and 5month old baby. Had an enjoyable stay. We stayed in a recently refurbished room which was lovely and modern. Shame that we had no bath (I like to relax in the tub when away with a glass of wine!) but there was a large powerful shower. The only problem we faced was that the complimentary tea and coffee facilities have now been built into the wall & our kettle didn't work! Ate at the restaurant both nights, good choice and the food was spot on. Would definitely recommend for a short business stay.

Staying for a couple of nights. Hotel on the edge of Chester racecourse so a short walk out of the centre BUT it's quiet and safe. Room was nice, clean and modern if not a little basic. Note on table describing pillows as haveing one soft and one firm side. Pillows were thin and limp and felt exactly the same on both sides. Other budget hotels I have stayed in provided a full English breakfast (mushrooms, fried eggs, hash brows, black pudding etc). Good selection of cereal and fruit was available. Pastries were... Dear traveler, read fully before booking... Location - can't fault it for Chester. Staff - helpfulish when approached Room - basic but bordering on tired. Food - poor for a brand of this fame. So, for a cheaper two night break you'd think it was just about OK (but get your breakfast somewhere else.) Lovely, brand new, re-furbed room. Polite, experienced staff on reception. We got an off-peak deal off a comparison website. Mike Kelly (racecourse security) was lovely. He gave us a lift (in the hotel's golf buggy) to The White Horse restaurant (and came for us at the end). Loved this touch! Added a bit more luxury to our stay. Would recommend!!

Stayed here quite a few times and have to say it's gone backwards or stayed still at best. Newly refurbished room is nice and neat but the shower is very small. Banged my elbows when showering as the shower over bath has now been removed and is now tight unless you are under 6ft. Bed is similarly small. Breakfast is so so. We stayed here for 2 nights for Christmas shopping. Immaculate room, friendly staff, great location 2 min walk and in Chester town centre. Only downside was the breakfast, eggs, beans and 2 different types of sausages. Why no bacon? Surely not any more difficult to cook if you are cooking 2 different types of sausages. Just do one sausage and give us a proper English breakfast with bacon.
