Ladies at reception made us feel welcome, having no booking, everything explained. Advised restaurant menu will be in bar type area tonight, things went down from here, got meal before utensils, had to ask for salt and pepper, meal good. Asked for tip or service fee, declined. The room the air conditioning didn't seem to work lucky we could open hotel window, floor uneven and paint peeling off wall near window. Shower fantastic, for all Australians no washes or flannels in Uk.

Have stayed here several times before. This was our first visit since refurbishment, the reception and bar area were very nice.Check-in was very efficient, we were again as requested given a quiet room overlooking the garden. Our room and bathroom were very clean,no complaints at all, just wish other guests would not slam doors at 5.30 in the morning or when going and returning from breakfast. We booked room only, so cannot comment on food.overall we enjoyed our stay and will return again.

Tea and coffee provided and the bathroom was nice and clean. Didn't have breakfast as I was in a rush but this is optional anyway. Good standard accommodation that most Holiday Inns provide.

Handy to reach off the M53. Bus stop outside the hotel so no need to take the car into Chester. Good food and helpful friendly staff. Would go again. Boat trip on the river plus city bus tour showed us places that we might not have seen.Train ride into Liverpool easy, lots of shops in both places.

We stayed for one night. Bed was comfy and sofa bed was great for daughter. Loved that we could have a swim and that towels were provided. Lovely and clean and nice refurbished room and bathroom (316). The hotel is like a labyrinth but we are trying to be healthy and walk our 10,000 steps a day so I didn't mind the hike from the room to the public areas. This also meant we were in a quiet area with no passing guest traffic so we had no issues with noise. Would happily stay again, daughter especi... Read more

Had one double bed and a double sofa bed for the children to share. Ample space and very comfortable however the bedding was very noisey but just a minor point. Lovely power shower as well. As you would expect from a Holiday Inn. The rooms was well appointed and the bathroom nice and clean. The air conditioning in the room was very welcome after a very hot day. The staff welcoming and friendly. The only issues I had were 1) couldnt get the pay for view tv to work (even with the instructions) and 2) Some inconsiderate **** in the room above insisted on playing his terrible death metal music as floor vibrating volume from 6-9pm

Very warm, welcoming and modern. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only downside was that we got awaken at around 2/3am by someone repeatedly banging on our door, trying to get in and open it. It is not usual for Holiday Inn to be cheaper than Travelodge but when we went looking for a night's accommodation in the Chester area we found this Holiday Inn to be cheaper. And the standard of the room and the services were far superior to those we usually find a Travelodge. We were not impressed with a Holiday Inn we stayed in a few years ago and didn't think it was worth the price we paid. However, we were pleasantly surprised with our Chester South experience. The modern hotel is beside the racecourse and in walking distance of the centre of Chester. On the racecourse complex there are restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is fairly standard. Reasonably sized rooms and comfortable. Lounge with bar and dining area. The breakfast is fairly standard - continental with sausages and eggs. Reasonably priced and worth a short stay if you are in Chester.

I stayed here whilst spending the evening at Chester Races. Hotel was of a clean and modern standard, with comfortable rooms and a well presented reception area. The bed, well it could have been comfy or not, but with the time I got back and the amount of beer I had consumed, it didn't matter! One note - mobile reception in this building is awful! The car park is large and there was never a problem with spaces, the outside of the hotel is rather grim as is the entire building, it has the feel of a 1970's comprehensive school. Reception and the bar area was fine as were the staff we encountered during our stay. Our room was a usual holiday inn room however finding it and the distance to it was a long process, in fact we encounte... Read more

Not quite walking distance from Chester centre but a reasonable taxi fare, especially if you jump in with other guests! Room was clean, modern and comfortable. Hotel doesn't look brilliant from the outside but there were plenty of parking spaces and staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was good with black pudding which wasn't expected.

Excellent location - just off the A55 Expressway, near to park and ride into Chester centre. Room was clean but problem with one curtain meant it could not be fully opened - even after the maintenance team had "mended" it. Everything we needed was available, and staff were friendly and helpful. Expensive food for this type of hotel.

Stayed for the first time in this particular Holiday Inn. It was a Friday night, there were a lot of people arriving, but we were treated with courtesy, and had a really nice bedroom. The grounds are well kept, and private at the back, not overlooked, and everything was there for a quiet, comfortable night. The whole hotel has been recently refurbished to a high standard. We had 2 curry of the day in the lounge, with a drink, and slept soundly. Service was good, no delay at all. Check in and chec... Read more

Stayed here last sat for a friend's 50th birthday. Special thanks to receptionist lynsey. I rang few days before to see if they could organise a birthday cake as a surprise. Lynsey bought the cake and candles herself. It was greatly appreciated. Praise goes out to kind people who still exist. All the staff were friendly, and extremely attentive, will definitely visit again.

Staying with family who were competing in the marathon. The location is easy to get to and convenient for traveling into the city or to the zoo. I have stayed here before on a coach trip with friends and recommended it for the marathon. The architecture is dated, but the internal decor and standard of cleanliness is very good. The bar is comfortable and the food, though limited, is tasty.

We stayed for two nights with friends for a weekend in Chester. The outside is rather dated but the inside is modern and clean. Plenty if free parking as well. The rooms are newly decorated and clean. We ate in the bar on the first night and had a loverly well priced meal in the nice setting if the bar. It is very close ( a 10 min walk) to the park and ride but my advice is use the normal bus service, route 1. The park in run doesn't run after 7pm so it's a bit early for a night out !! Overall... Hotel as had a make over in the last couple of years. Now a clean, open and modern place to stay close to good road links. We found all staff to be friendly and helpful in any way possible. Special mention about Ray who would start your day with a friendly greeting at breakfast to servicing coffee in the lounge. The only disappointment was the internet.

I stayed overnight on a business trip and would say that the standard of the rooms was good, but the hotel itself needs a 'loving' renovation and redecoration outside. The reliability of thekey card was also somewhat dodgy. I would also suggest the price of a bar meal of fish and chips at £15.95 is a little bit excessive. However breakfast was good and plenty of it although they seemed a bit understaffed at a peak time. having said all this I would still stay again albeit only for a night.

We were travelling from Glasgow to Minehead. Booked 1 night to break up journey. Booked online about 4 weeks previous, and booked the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast with family room for £98 for the four of us. Arrived Sunday late afternoon to a warm welcome and told we could use the swimming pool and towels were provided. Room had 1 double, 1 single and a sofa bed, plenty of room and comfy. Went for dinner in bar and were told we were entitled to choose 3 courses from the menu and the children ... Read more

Stayed here for one night. Acceptable welcome. Room at back away from traffic noise and busy road. Park and ride nearby. Service buses to city just outside. Return ticket £4. Has bar and small cafe but didn't use this. Main restaurant rather dour. Service good, typical fast food. I had tikka chicken massage with usual accompaniments. Arrived within 5 minutes. It is what it is. Breakfast ok. Didn't use pool. For £89 thought it was fine.

A one night stay with my children during the Bank Holiday this year prompted me into writing a letter to the manager of the hotel with regards to the problems we encountered. To date no reply has been forthcoming ( since the beginning of September ) The staff are pleasant and friendly. The hotel itself is clean and recently refurbished but there is room for improvement. My meal in the upstairs 'restaurant' was poor ( a tuna steak dry as a bone ) the waiting times are unacceptably long. i.e. 20 m... Read more

Stayed here for 2 nights. Decent place to stay. Room was clean and had the space we needed. Bed very comfy. Was a long walk from reception to our room, so be prepared. Staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice for breakfast and reasonable selection of meals for dinner in the bar and restaurant. Note that the restuarant does not open Sunday night but you can still get a meal in the bar. Park and ride for Chester just a few minutes drive up the road.

Not the best looking hotel from outside but clean, tidy and welcoming inside. Helpful staff in all departments. Good food choices from the bar menu on our first night - with the children eat free offer it cost around £45 for 2 courses for 4 with one drink each. Swam twice - the warmest pool we've been in anywhere, ever (although definitely ready for a refit). Varied breakfast choices both mornings. 5 minutes walk to the Park and Ride which we'd really recommend. Our only problem (which was qui... Read more

Received a lovely welcome from both Receptionists who were both cheerful and professional. My room was lovely - a long walk from Reception but that was ok for me! Very quiet and very dark during the night (no street lights); perfect for me! Room was very clean and had a lovely, large power shower. Unfortunately no toilet brush!! I've been visiting this hotel for some time now for swimming and was taken aback recently when we received a parking fine for £100. At no point did anyone make us aware that if we do not fill our registration plate in at the spa reception, we would be fined, and invariably, there is nobody at spa reception desk to make us aware of this. This, coupled with the fact that a member of staff was very abrupt when I made her aware of the fine stating "well there are signs everywhere", leaves me feel... Read more

I dropped my elderly parents here for a one night stay. We had a lovely welcome from reception with smiles and a genuine wish to help. The room was immaculate very spacious and well kept decor. We ate in the restaurant upstairs and had a very good meal with again excellent attentive service. There is a 'parking eye' system in place so put your vehicle registration into the computer at the reception desk to avoid any fines. Surprisingly good, not much to look at from the outside but once you get inside it's a lot more modern and pleasant. Room was comfortable and clean. Only issue I had was it got very hot and the radiator didn't seem to be controllable (air con was different and off) I was particularly impressed with breakfast, one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had in a while. Lots of variety and a good cooked breakfast (not overly greasy etc.) On the opposite end of the scale to the hot room problem, ... Read more

Stayed here for a couple of nights and as a Spire Elite member I only paid about £185 for the two nights including breakfast for two people on each of the days. The hotel staff are super-friendly and helpful. Rooms are quiet and clean, beds are comfortable, and breakfast is fantastic. Highly recommended
