We visited Saturday 21st January for my wife's birthday. Upon arriving at the hotel, which we last stayed at about 3 years ago it was clear to see that renovation work was ongoing however disruption was at a minimum and there was an alternate entrance to avoid the work which was taking place. The lady on the front desk, who I believe was called Wendy, couldn't do enough for us and was really friendly. When I booked the room I made a note that it was my wife's birthday treat and she made sure s... Read more

We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast and use of the spa. We enjoyed making the most of all the facilities. The spa was very good with a lot to do even if it was quite busy in the afternoon. However, I am disappointed to find out that there is now a £15 charge to use it. I feel that this is too expensive to pay on top of what you have already paid to stay in the hotel. We had dinner in the Garden room which was good. We chose to eat from the set menu which had a good selection. The cheesebo... Read more

Staying here never fails to impress me. You pull off the main road and feel like you are in a country estate. Just a slight warning, they are doing alot of improvements/building work here, so the car park was covered in mud. I believe reception is being renovated over the coming weeks, over an 8 week period I think the staff said. Quick check-in and a great welcome from the staff. Up to my room on the 1st floor which was a junior suite (got upgraded which was nice). Large 2 room suite, wit... Read more

Let's acknowledge the builders are in,so there is going to be disruption but honestly the problems that I experienced have very little to do with builders The guest bedrooms and corridors have that feeling of being neglect and outdated something from the 1970s. Brown and grim There is a general lack of attention to detail, curtains off the tracts and beds not properly connected ( see pics ) Admittedly it was a very cold evening but even with an additional heater I have NEVER been so cold. On arrival lots of work going on in and around the hotel it was very muddy outside the building. Due to the work being carried out it was quite confusing getting to the spa as we had not been before. Facilities are great lovely steam room, sauna, and various different rooms. Lovely thermal pool that goes outside. Pool quite small but adequate. Deal was £59 for 1/2 treatment I chose a facial which was nice and afternoon tea was quite basic. I would definitely use the facilities there again.

Have stayed here on a couple of occasions. It's slightly outside of Chester so unless you have a car or get a taxi you're going to be staying inside the hotel. Chester is a lovely city so well worth the ride in (perhaps for a walk around the walls). Agree with Paul S, it is a bit of a building site at the moment. Apparently they are going to add 80 rooms. I haven't tried the Spa (or the pool). Rooms are nice, clean and very comfortable and breakfast was good. Currently here for a business... Read more

We recently booked an overnight stay in this spa hotel for our first wedding anniversary and were sadly disappointed with the service that we received. We initially requested a bed, breakfast and dinner package at £190 as we felt the additional cost of £40 for dinner for two people was very reasonable. When we arrived to check in, we were advised that the package allowed for a set menu or '£19.50' per person towards food from the menu i.e. less money towards food than the value of the dinner ... bit of a mudbath ouside at the moment with alot of work ongoing following recent takeover but cannot be helped. Staff very helpful, rooms clean and tidy. The Spa is excellent but found it very odd to have to pay as a resident initially. Is there a water shortage in Cheshire? Rooms do not have complimentary water, which is normal in hotels of far lower standards. The water fountains in the gym/pool area are dribbles at best. MPW`s resaturant is wonderful, food lovely. Great access into Chester on... Read more

Visited here January 2017 for afternoon tea as part of a friends 50th birthday celebration. Finger sandwiches, scones with proper clotted cream & jam and a selection of mini tarts, all delicious. Plenty of tea/coffee refills available on request. Would recommend.
