Secured late deal as a need to relax, eat and sleep so this hotel ticked our boxes - local, decent pool &spa, spacious bar and intimate restaurant. Very good for rural location, lovely gardens with access to lots of local attractions such as Chester Zoo, Roman heritage city with excellent shopping at Cheshire oaks outlet village (extra 10% discount with keycard) Restaurant food was above average but not high quality yet good vfm. We booked this Hotel for a special break to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and as a special surprise for my wife I upgraded the room to a Four Poster. A word to Nick on Reception and within minutes we had been transferred to an Executive Room, our cases were transferred and to make the apology complete a complimentary glass of Champagne before Dinner and a complimentary bottle of win... Bed comfy,Staff were good especially the cleaner who left us fresh milk in an iced bucket.Breakfast was greasy, lukewarm and had been in hot containers too long.Had to clear a table ourself and ask for pot of tea which was in a big cracked teapot. The tea cups were also chipped.Stayed for 2 nights which was enough to make up our minds to move on to another place

My wife and I visited 26-28 May to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As other reviews have noted there are some improvement works ongoing around the hotel, with the aim of updating the décor and facilities, but it is more than pleasant as it is. The staff are excellent, from arrival to departure nothing seemed like it was too much trouble. Mark deserves a special mention, as he went out of his way to make our stay as trouble-free and enjoyable as possible - he's a star! Katie was very pleasant... Read more

Arrived on the Thursday, didn't get off to a good start as the men on the front desk mumbled and spoke broken English and couldn't deviate from their script. Was given the card key and then he just turned around, so we had to work out which way it was to our room. Was asked if I wanted to preauthorise a card with them and he seemed to take offence when I said no, and then said "sorry, I repeat in case you not understand" and then when I said no again, he replied "ok, it standard procedure we ask... The hotel is due some updating and TLC it's just got a bit run down. We stayed two nights and slept ok. The walls are paper thin so be aware of...noises. The rooms are clean but just worn and a bit tatty. The room was a good size but it just gave the impression of not being planned. The toilet was right next to heated towel rail so your leg was against it. The bathroom door didn't fully open because of the sink behind it. There were three mirrors but none were great locations for doing make up. ... Read more
