I had read all the positive reviews about this hotel prior to booking and as I have high standards, decided to book. This was a very important trip as my mother was being re-united with her brother who she had not seen in over 50 years, as well as being an unofficial family reunion with others. My mother travelled all the way from Canada and as we were quite anxious to confirm our plans I had booked the hotel in somewhat of a haste and ignored the no cancellation note. We recently celebrated a friend's significant birthday by taking Sunday Lunch in the Kings Brasserie. Its not the cheapest (3 courses £21.95 plus a glass of Prosecco) but the room itself is pleasant and we even had pianist/singer to accompany our meal. Nice idea but difficult for him as to which music to pay bearing the diverse audience. Personally I would drop this idea. This is based on our experience whereby the restaurant was not very busy so the music seemed intrusive rather than in the ba... Read more

The hotel is situated right outside of the train station, which was perfect for me and my partner. Check in was very quick and easy and the staff were very friendly and took our bags to our room for us. It was a 10-20 minute walk into the city centre which I loved as it was close but not too close. There was also plenty to do in the centre. When we were shown to our room I was very impressed, I loved the small details such as the chests instead of basic draws. It was spotlessly clean and had pl... Read more

This was our 4th trip to The Queen's - so we like it generally. Each time we have managed to negotiate a deal either with the hotel itself or a booking agent such as secret escapes so never paid list price. It's overall cost V Location works well for us, but this time we maybe noticed some rough edges which will make us pick another place next time. Parking :- It's £15 for 24 hours. Not bad for a night but gonna hurt for any longer. Rooms :- Nice. Kings side beats the Queens side so worth ask... Read more

We stayed here using a travelzoo offer and it was fabulous. Our room was in the new Kings quarters and was equivalent to rooms at Hilton hotels. Reception staff couldn't do enough for you and our meal in the 2aa rosette restaurant (kings grill I think) was great. (we chose red wine on waiters recommendation and it was gorgeous) Breakfast was also very good.

Well, my friend got a deal with Groupon for a nights stay here and I must admit after some of the reviews I wasn't expecting much, but on arrival we were given one of the newly refurbished rooms and were very pleasantly surprised. The whole place is packed with interesting antiques and art, which makes walking the long corridors a fascinating experience. Husband treated me to a lovely 'Afternoon Tea' last Sunday. We had a thoroughly relaxing time here. We had a couple of drinks in the waiting bar area before been shown through to where we were to have our afternoon tea served. The young lady was very pleasant indeed and made sure we had everything we needed. The only thing I would say could be added, would be some light background music. It can make a great difference.

We stayed at the queen for one night Thur 30th June, upon arrival our first reaction was simply "wow" the exterior was stunning and full of history. We had a very warm welcome from the reception staff who were a credit to the hotel, each member of staff that passed by said a genuine friendly hello and some a hand shake, from the waiters to the chef to the portering staff. I thoroughly enjoyed swinging my wife around every one of the four post of our bed, and the jacuzzi bath was sensational! My wife paid £179 for a night in this hotel as a birthday treat. We parked in the Railway Station car park because the hotel wanted £15 per day (DOUBLE the price of the railway car park). We stayed in a four poster bed room. It was £277 for two nights, and, due to the price, I expected it to be amazing: I've often stayed in hotels in Manchester for a similar price and they were fabulous. The room itself was full of intricate furniture and the bed was lovely, but the room was rather dark and very antiquated- which is in keeping with the theme of the room. We found the hotel very comfortable & the staff were really pleasant. Breakfast was substantial & varied. We also enjoyed the Steak offer in the evening-£40 for 2 steaks & a bottle of wine. Stayed at the impressive atmospheric Queen hotel located opposite the train station . buffet breakfast very enjoyable with lots of choice. So much to see and do in Chester i recommend it to all . The only downside on this trip was the hotel charges car parking as extra £15.00 per 24 hours at the weekend . This a bit over the top when you are paying over £150.00 per night in my opinion.

My Husband took me here for the night for my birthday. the hotel was lovely and the staff were even nicer, they cant do enough for you. They upgraded our room as there was a wedding going on in the area we were originally staying. The restaurant is amazing food is gorgeous. Our waiter Fabio was so nice gave us a glass of bubbly for my birthday. Will defiantly be staying here again. would recommend to everyone.

Stayed here Friday and Saturday night, our daughter booked this as a surprise for our wedding anniversary. At check in we were informed our room had been upgraded!! wow. We had a suite on the kings side. From checking in to leaving everything was perfect. The staff were wonderful and so very friendly. At breakfast we were met with a glass of bucks fizz, beakfast was varied something for all tastes. We dined in the Kings Grill on Friday the food was sublime and to top it all the entertainme... On arriving at the hotel,we were met by the doorman, who was very friendly, pity the reception staff weren't the same, when asked about parking (which is £15 per day) we were told to go through the arch way, what the staff didn't do was to tell us to register on the computer on the desk,if we had not noticed someone else do it as we were going to have a look around the city we would have had a large fine,no apology from the staff The hotel it self was clean and tidy and the breakfast was ok Don't... It was described as "Sparkling" afternoon tea for two! I would describe it as Dull, Dull, Dull and was not even worth the £19.95 I paid through Groupon. I had booked this as a celebration for my sister's birthday and when we saw the impressive surroundings thought we were in for a real treat. How wrong can one be! Apart from the prosecco which came in beautiful glasses and the warm scone (hence the 2 stars) everything else was a big disappointment. The sandwiches and cakes were very plain, not... Read more

We stayed here last night. All the staff were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble. The room was very clean and had everything that you will need even a fan if you need one. The food was also very good indeed. All in all a perfect place to stay.

Its never easy getting family together especially when they are spread across the Country. One of the joys of the Queen is that the entrance is straight across the road from the railway station - we managed train journeys from St Abans, Harlow and Huddersfield and being able to leave luggage at the hotel ahead of check in was a real bonus. Then where do we start - I booked direct with the hotel and had to change the booking a number of times and Sue in reservations was so patient and understandi... Read more

The wife and I stayed here for one night en route to Liverpool. What a wonderful surprise to find a hotel like this, loads of character, not too tired and with evidence of its former opulence as described elsewhere. The staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and efficient.. Not in the center of Chester but a pleasant 15 min walk (max) to get there, with a couple of bars alongside the canal on the way. Plus the best Thai restaurant I have ever been too just after the canal bridge. Parking ... Read more

This is a really grand looking hotel and the staff are very helpful and friendly, however we only had 4 hrs sleep due to the noise in the hotel. this finished at around 2am and we slept until around 5.30 when delivery trucks arrived to collect the laundry, when they left the bin men arrived to make as much noise as possible! ALL ON SUNDAY MORNING. Room was tired and the beds needed replacing 10 yrs ago. Parking is £15 per day. I was offered another stay at a slightly reduced price. If it was f... Read more

We have just stayed for a long weekend at this great hotel. I booked a 2 night deal direct via the 'Hallmark Hotels' website & got a 2 night offer/break with dinner for two on either evening & breakfast both mornings for less than an advertised rate on Booking.com....Great value!! When we checked in we were also upgraded to a queen executive room...The room was very nicely decorated, with a decently sized tv & had all of the usual facilities & faced the inner courtyard rather than the main road.... We had a weekend away for a combined 60th and 65th birthday with friends. The hotel had a splendid frontage and stylish bedrooms. We ate in the restaurant for the first night and the meal was generally very good. There was a small glitch is contact between the reception and the restaurant but this was rectified fairly quickly allowing us to charge the meals to our room. The rest of the stay was wonderful and the service at the hotel was good and the staff very helpful. We would recommend Ch... Read more

Fabulous Hotel, very clean & large rooms. Also 2 drinks vouchers for the bar which were much appreciated. Large hotel with excellent staff who all seemed extremely knowledgable about the building. In the halls and passages, there were may pictures & busts of the royals from days gone by to the present. All in all a very good nights stay.

If I sound a bit negative in this review its because of the cost, if this hotel was £70 a night It would have scored so much better. When paying this amount of money I expect a better experience than I got. I work all around the country and love Best Westerns normally staying for business but this one was for a nice weekend break. I wanted something special so booked this one. To start for the positives good location (right next to train station) and a short walk into Chester town center so y... Read more

The hotel looks great all round both outside and in. It's a very atmospheric vibe with Roman body armor and statues around the place. The rooms were clean and well equipped. We had noisy neighbors but that's not the hotels fault. The superstar of the hotel is one of the kitchen staff. At breakfast I met Kyle who was on the omelette station and he made sure we were well looked after! Egg whites omelettes, porridge what ever we wanted that wasn't on the buffet he got for us. Beautiful building and public rooms .The Italian Garden is a joy ; perfect for a relaxing refreshment . In the room however there were matters that need addressing . Very hot, nowhere to hang clothes in the bathroom ie. no hooks . The shower was small awkward to use and so my partner tells me - " not lady friendly !! " Some of the staff were wonderful -Paul Emrol and Bob. Polite helpful informative and welcoming.as you would expect . The front-desk staff however are in serious need of training ... Read more

My husband and I stayed on 2nd July, and we have stayed on a number of occasions as a treat and to be close to family. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the breakfast was luke warm, with the pot of tea cold, we had to send it back. I did complain but was told they had been busy, surely this should be normal practice for the breakfast to be at a standard of temperature, no matter what. The bar meal of ceasar salad, was an atrocious price for a plate of mixed leaves, and croutons, without ... Read more

What a beautiful place. I took my girlfriend here for our 1st night together 8yrs ago. (I'll spare you the details). 8yrs & 2 x children later, we went back together for a night. (Again, details spared). It was booked via Booking.com I'd think twice before booking through these clowns. Communication was virtually zero. My Mrs. was under the impression that breakfast was included in our £143 for 1 x night room but it wasn't. Whilst I'm mentioning figures, I'd also like to point out that it's... Read more

Diamond in the rough, beautiful hotel with approx. 15 ft. ceilings, 6ft windows, breakfast was great, just about anything you want is on the buffet. Other than in the hotel no restaurants near the hotel. I was able to get a meal at the pub across the street, very reasonable. Train station is on another corner. I had a great time, service was impeccable.

I have been coming to stay at The Queens on business every few weeks now for well over a year and im still yet to write a review!!! So I thought this has to change!! The hotel is beautiful in my opinion - The rooms in The Queens Building are older with high ceilings and sash windows but always very clean and with beautiful furnirure in the suites. This hotel is a classic! Literally next to the train station, and a short walk into town. Parking £10 overnight. Undergoing refurb with some rooms already done. I was in an old room which was fine, but, shower was very poor. Pretty much a dribble. I'm sure this will be being addressed under the refurb.

The hotel is steeped in tradition and is a very smart hotel. The staff are very pleasant but the staffing levels on the night I checked in were too low. This resulted in a wait at check in, no advise to register my car in the car park which would have resulted in a fine if I had not phoned reception to check the process late on. The Meal I had was very poor and service in the bar slow. Having to request pillows as I climbed into bed was another of the too many snags.

The hotel caters for tour groups as well as business. It is a little 'tired' and needs some 'brightening up'. The outside seating area needs some atmosphere. We were told we had been 'upgraded' but the room was a little dour. It's fair to say the breakfast was the worst, poor with cold or lukewarm food, watered down coffee and we did not eat anything. The table leg of the bedside table was actually wedged under the table and fell off! Staff were ok, friendly, but some seemed a little disinterest... Read more

Stunning building and really nice Inside and out. Breakfast was lovely! Hotel bar very reasonably priced and had some great ciders. Only Down side is the smoke alarms in rooms seem very sensitive as ours set off in the afternoon after the shower had been used twice and the following morning our neighbour managed to set it off at 7AM with the shower also ???. Other than that would 100% stay again well worth the money!
