This hotel lacks style and a maintenance team. Tired, out dated and in need of serious modernisation. Arrived early to enjoy the pool and facilities before an evening reception at our friends wedding. Shocked at the poor decor and the smell in both the changing rooms and steam room we endured 20 mins and left. £1 deposit for a towel worth a £1 allowed a damp exit to our rooms. We didn??t risk a treatment in fear of what lay behind those doors. Braving the bedroom we changed for the party. Th... Read more

The staff were lovely and welcoming but the hotel is in need of some refurbishment our room was dated and tired. The owners were also there who didn't speak a word and weren't to pleased we were having a laugh with the bar man which made us very uncomfortable the attitude on the young lady was disgusting they should be welcoming of there guests that are putting money behind the bar

On an overcast but warm Saturday afternoon, 11 ladies had afternoon tea at the St Mellons Hotel. The Hotel laid out one of their smaller side rooms to create a more intimate setting and made it easier to have conversations. With the windows wide open, the breeze was welcome, we could see the gardens looking glorious outside. The young man who looked after us was very pleasant, nothing too much trouble. The Tea consisted of an abundance of sandwiches, pastries and cakes - all soft and sweet a... Read more

Well located in attractive grounds on the outskirts of the Capital City. For a venue this size it was amazing that the only draught beers available were Guinness and two types of lager - no bitter ales at all !!!!! The meal was good but, an adjacent table where some of our colleagues were sitting had to wait some 20 minutes after we were served before they had their meal, not at all acceptable.

booked to stay for a week while working in Cardiff. photos looked ok, not sure why when I walked in room why I didn't turn around and walk out. it was a long day, so I just put up with it. the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. The room was the worst I have ever stayed in. and I'm in hotels most weeks. didn't eat in as I just needed to get out of the place as much as I could. gardens and surrounding area is nice. didn't use spa, looks like a lot of work is going on. I say this as the ... Read more

Arrived at what looked like a building site for a spa day and one night stay. The spa has missing paint, Dents and mould. Pool was freezing & sauna & steam room were useless! Shabby and dirty. The bedroom was stinking of damp, dirty, paint and damp stains on the wall. Room was extremely dated and pillows were useless! Haven't been renovated since 1940's I would say! Avoid like the plague ??

We were a little hesitant to stay here giving the bad reviews we had read, yes the décor needs some updating (it is an old building) but the hotel was great in beautiful location and the staff were really nice and accommodating, we used the spa and pool which were really good, nice warm pool and the steam and hot tub were fab. We would stay here again

I stayed here with a friend in 30/06, check in was swift and the receptionist was welcoming and helpful. Off to a great start...or so I thought! The grounds of the hotel are scenic and give a premium feel, however once inside its a different story. All areas are painfully dated looking worn and in need of renovation, or at least a lick of paint and a good scrub. There was a musty odour throughout the building. We were disappointed with the bar which served flat soda water and no ice and was over... Read more
