For a stop over its OK, Good parking available and free which is more of a problem for hotels in the city centre. The rooms are clean and staff are friendly. When in Canterbury again I would stay more closer to the town but if this not an issue then this hotel is ideal. Breakfast is included and is satisfactory as you are not paying extra but I did find the choice limiting.

Don't be put off by the exterior. The interior is your regular HI offering. Check in was slightly delayed as there did not seem to be anyone who could fill in for the receptionist when she disappeared for a bit. It was a bit like the Marie Celeste for a while and took someone to knock on the office door to find out where anyone was. The lady who popped out just said we had to wait for her colleague. However, in her defence, we were checking in early. The room was clean although the single beds w... Read more

We stayed at this hotel whilst visiting Canterbury before our cruise. Hotel was very good we never expected a Holiday Inn Express to do evening meals bug they do. Good was excellent and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. There a bus stop a mile away which goes to Canterbury making it a great location.

Visiting relatives my wife and I are staying at the holiday inn express at Harbledown, Canterbury. It is a very well run Express with a standard breakfast and an excellent coffee machine. Well done HIE! This is well positioned on the main road to Dover.

Stayed as we were visiting the university, received a warm welcome upon check in, room was comfortable and has everything we needed, phone signal is shocking in and around the hotel, but a big plus which helps is the free wi-if with a decent strength signal. We asked for a fan a couple of other bits and staff were only too happy to help. Breakfast had a decent selection, only point to mention was the cereal in the descenders had broken down quite a lot so was very bitty, also bacon would be nice... Read more

Spent a night here when down for a funeral. Rooms lovely, clean and spacious. Plenty towels and extra pillows if needed. Six of us stayed and had dinner here when staying. Menu was good choice and food was excellent. Breakfast was good only downfall was it was a little congested due to a coach party maybe going out early in the morning.

The place was clean enough but the lighting was poor in the room and the general place had a slight weird feeling to it. It was an alright enough place to stay if you need somewhere to stay on the way to Canterbury. Also be wary of the entrance it is in a petrol station, we missed the turning and it took us an extra hour to get to the place because the surrounding area was hard to navigate. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The room we stayed in had no noise which considering it was on a motor wa... Read more

Needed accommodation for the night and was very surprised ........Our room and bathroom were clean, the bed was comfy we had a large fan (although it wasn't warm enough to use it) hair dryer tea making and even had rabbits outside our window in the morning! The breakfast was a buffet (I am gluten intolerant and they supplied bread for me) and there was plenty of tea & coffee The only thing I would say is that the breakfast area wasn't very clean especially the floor

I have recently taken over this account from my ailing mother. I travel a great deal and hope my reviews aid you in making an informed decision over hotel choice. I stayed at the Express for 4 nights on business. My room was booked through an Agency; the rates are capped accordingly. I found this hotel to be perfect for my needs at the time. All I required was a bed, a bathroom, a desk to work on and a TV for down time. The Hotel is located about 4 miles outside Canterbury and sits next to a b... Read more

Enjoyed our overnight stay with breakfast included. We had a quiet room which was very clean - everything new looking and spotless. Kettle with plenty of tea and coffee and hair dryer. All staff very friendly and helpful. Good car-park. This hotel is located behind a petrol sation and tall trees and bushes so easy to miss from the road but a gem when you find it!

I've stayed in tons of Holiday Inn Expresses and have learned that due to them being licensed by IHG, their standards can vary. This is one of those hotels! Everything was as if the owner had taken the cheaper option on anything that needed supplying or fixing. It just had a slightly unkempt feel to it. The beer - this is incredible - is £5.40 a pint! I have literally never paid this (well - not in a no frills hotel) before and it's offensive. Given that the hotel is absolutely in the mi... Read more

One of the hottest days of the year but no fan or air conditioning in the room. Not enough sockets to even charge 2 phones. Very limited menu. The BP garage next door was a let down as an alternative to at least find something to eat (Costa & Spar advertised) or even an ice cream as it advertised. It was being refurbished so there was just a till. Oh and to top it all it was my birthday! Do not give this place a second chance. Rubbish.

This is clearly an old hotel, the lobby looks like it has been refurbished but the rooms certainly haven't. We were in room 227 and I imagine this was a smoking room back when it was legal, as there was a lingering smell in the room. Staff on arrival were very helpful. We unfortunately had 3 teenagers who decided to have a bit of a party in the room next door to us at 1.30am before going out and returning at 4am. The walls are paper thin, every word (including one of them throwing up) could ... Read more

Stayed here during an overnight trip to Dover. What a great experience!!! The food and service was amazing!! The menu maybe limited in the amount of dishes, but there is more than enough for everyone to choose from, but it's the quality that surpasses any amount of choice!! De-li-cious!! Will always use this as a stop over for future trips abroad.

Hard to find, via an exit behind a BP petrol station. Noisy by being dangerously exposed to passing traffic. No air conditioning, but a fan. Bad bed, we did not sleep very wll . Simple hotel, good for a stopover. Staff does the bar and front desk. Breakfast is also simple, but diner was good !

Made the mistake of thinking Upper Harbledown was near Harbledown... because of the routes taxis have to take to/from the hotel into Canterbury or surrounding areas, taxi fares are exorbitant... Possibly our own fault for not researching more carefully but also, maybe Canterbury taxis are very expensive? Breakfast was fine with plenty of food - and special thanks to the lovely chef who gave me biscuits (as many as I wanted lol!) to go with our cuppa, on arrival (6.30pm and there was nothing on... Having looked around the area for a hotel to stop in during the summer holidays the Holiday Inn Express was one of the only ones available at such short notice on a weekend. I have used Holiday Inn as a company before and didn't have an issue as they have a good reputation... I clicked and booked a standard double. On arrival I was told that it was a twin made into a standard double which isn't an issue as I know this is how it is done in most hotel chains. However on getting to the room ... Read more

I was visiting my son who is at university down there. The hotel was nice enough. The room was clean and en suite was adequate! There was a double bed and a pull out sofa bed which was all I needed. My one complaint was the room was too hot! I had to have the fan on. The breakfast wasn't anything special but again it was adequate and unlimited. I enjoyed my stay.

Very clean and staff were friendly. We got a taxi into Canterbury for the evening - £15 for trip in and £20 for trip back (a longer journey). Breakfast was good (great scrambled eggs!) We stayed here for three nights. Reception and service were very good. The room was fine and the bed was superb so big and comfortable. Where it was at first sight didn't look good with the petrol station but it did make for easy access to Canterbury and the coast. The breakfast was adequate. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to visit places on the coast and Canterbury.

This place is about 5 miles north west of Canterbury on a service area on the A2 and part of me sighed internally when I realised we'd booked a motorway hotel. However, I have to admit that we had a pleasant stay with a nice breakfast and it provided everything we needed well and easily. It reminded me of similar accommodation that we stay in frequently on the continent without a murmur so it's nice to see that we are embracing the kind of good, budget accommodation they do so well in Europe (th... A clean, small modern hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant/lounge/bar is a bit lacking in style or atmosphere and the menu is somewhat limited although what I did try was pretty good. The main drawback is its location, rather isolated from anything else and next to the busy London to Dover road. Although the rooms are double glazed the traffic noise is always noticeable and open windows at nigh are not an option. As other reviewers have commented, the staff are great an... Read more

Nevertheless, i feel I need to write a review to make people aware of potential problems that can be encountered. We had difficulty locating the access to this hotel, but once we had found it, a positive experience awaited us. There are two negatives to mention first: the hotel is very close to the A2, which would undoubtedly be a problem if you are a light sleeper. Luckily we are not, so the traffic noise did not bother us. Secondly, if I were the owner of this hotel, I would try to buy the site the other side of the Spar shop and service station, knock down the derelict building and redevelop the site, as... Read more

I don't usually do reviews, however in a job where I find myself occasionally having to travel I have built an experience and level of expectation and familiarity with 'stop gap' or 'on the road' accommodation. It was at the Holiday Inn Express in Canterbury that compelled me to write a review. So let's start with the positives and get them out of the way...
