Needed a one night stay to catch up with our grand-daughter who is at Uni..Chose The Washington on price and availability. We booked a family room B&B and three of us spent a comfortable night in a small but well equipped room with all facilities including a range of unusual hot drink options. Next morning we enjoyed a delicious traditional English breakfast served by very welcoming staff in a surprisingly light and airy dining room. All of this for £74 including £6 for on site parking spot,... Read more

Staff excellent helpful and very friendly . Our room 17 which was a good size was in need of a make over and the bathroom very small when using the toilet your knees touch the opposite wall and the furniture needed replacing. The beds very comfortable and clean although being a twin I think it was originally a double because the wall lights are to low over the beds. Breakfast very good although the second morning they seemed to be a mixup with the breakfast but we put that down to the many wai... Read more

The thing that saves this hotel from a poor review is the staff, especially Vanessa on reception (all round wonderful - really going out of her way to ensure that everything you could want was done!) and their temporary night receptionist James, who even though he was only there for one night, had obviously been given a thorough briefing and was keen to ensure guest satisfaction. The breakfast staff were also great and the breakfast of good quality, although a little sparse on quantity for the... Read more

I don't normally take to trip advisor to write reviews because I think people can be picky however I have to warn you about this hotel . Full of cobwebs ,damp in the bathroom , in severe needing of an update, bedding smelt musky , dead batteries in tv remote asked for new ones got to used ones still didn't work, terrible decor ,no pressure in the shower I couldn't even wash my hair, told this to Andrea on reception (it's not her fault - she was lovely what could she do ) the breakfast was nice a... It is very difficult to word this review. I was 'put up' at the Washington Hotel after Clifton Short lets (an associated company, part of the Clifton group) failed to check me in - to cut a very long story short, they had messed their booking system up and the staff at the Washington were clueless and did not know what to do with me. I was given a double room in the basement - if you are given a room in the basement DO NOT STAY IN IT! The carpet was worn and frayed, it was dirty, damp and mouldy... Read more

On a short break to Bristol (4 nights) for a trip down memory lane, having worked a and lived in the city a number of years ago. We chose The Washington after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor as it seemed to meet our needs and budget. Found a space in the smallish car park at the rear (£6 per night), as on street parking is metered or residential. We were checked in smoothly and allocated a double room as requested. It was No 11 on the ground floor, just off reception. The room was high cei... Read more

I liked the location of the hotel, being not far from the centre of town. My room was comfortable but on second thought I should have booked one with ensuite facilities. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. I wonder whether lunch and dinner could be served on demand.

If you are looking for a shiny, sterile hotel with modern furniture and fittings, then The Washington is not for you. If you don't mind a bit of faded charm, and want a reasonably priced hotel in a great location with very helpful and friendly staff, then look no further. Easy walk to Clifton Village and to restaurants on Whiteladies Road, and the open top tourist bus stops just round the corner. Would happily return.

It's not 5 star luxury, but for 3 friends meeting for a weekend site seeking in Bristol it was perfectly placed and the staff, service and breakfast were great. My hairdryer did not work, and another one was bought to me. I left my charger at home and they loaned me one. My son will be attending an open day at Bristol University in September and we'll book again as it was so central.

Ok so I should start by saying if you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. The decor was drab and tired. In my room (17) there was a large stain in the middle of the carpet and the net curtain was torn at the bottom. When I sat up in bed and leant back, against the headboard, the bed kept rolling away from the wall. The sink in the ensuite was blocked and the TV was tiny (compared to other hotels I have stayed in for a similar price). Positives are that the staff were welcoming ... Read more

The Washington is a lovely little hotel. I stayed here for a week and a day. The hotel is clean and well priced. The receptionist Alexandra was amazing, very helpful and went out of her way to help me find a set of lost keys. She is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the local sites, restaurants and tours. Other reception staff were also helpful. The breakfast was a nice way to start the day during my stay. Had a long journey to Bristol from Lancashire. Received a warm welcome from the receptionist on arrival. We had a fantastic night with family and friends, the hotel is situated in a great location for city centre and the Clifton village area. Had a lovely quiet room (no 3) until the following morning! Only to discover we were right next to the dining room from early morning we could hear every person opening and closing the doors. The room was lovely and clean with everything you need avail... We stayed at The Washington after going down to Bristol to visit some friends. We were only using it as a cheap base (though it wasn't really that cheap but was the cheapest we could find). You do get what you pay for but as it was still more than I would consider to be a budget price I do have a couple of pointers. Firstly the receptionists were lovely and friendly. Couldn't fault them, they were extremely helpful and reception was open 24hrs. Breakfast was great. However I don't think it was ... Read more

The Wahsingtons in Clifton which looks like a pretty cool area, some nice bars and cafes around. Look past the creaky floors, squeaky doors, old fittings, and low pressure shower. That's all "character". We found friendly, helpful staff, a comfortable bed and excellent location. We only paid 6 pound/day for off-street parking. Good value.

Stayed here recently with a friend as we were attending Bristol harbour festival. Arriving the receptionist was very nice and told us how to get a bus into the harbour or walk. The rooms are VERY dated, the walls have newer paint over older paint in parts, chunks missing out of the wall etc. it could really do with a revamp to help it look more attractive. The breakfast was nice, nothing to rave about but did the trick. We only stayed here due to most hotels being fully booked, I probably wou... Read more

I stayed in a room close to the reception area. It may have been room 14 or 15 - a twin room. A member of staff seemed to find my surname amusing upon checkin which was not the most professional start in my opinion. Being near the reception did lead to a slightly noisy room. The room itself looked in need of decorating. It had a tired, used look. The ensuite was fine. The window overlooked the hotel's car park which is not free of charge. Breakfast was served in a basement room down some... Read more

We stayed 4 nights in the Washington because in booking. Com the rooms and the whole Hotel looked new and clean and wonderfull. We were highly surprised as we saw our room. The floor was dirty so was the bed. It was thick air and the bathroom had a small animal in it and it was wet and grey. Further more the breakfast was little disappointing but the stuff on the reseption was very very friendly especially an italian woman. She gave us exellent information were to eat and were to go.

The staff are lovely at the Washington. They are very helpful and cheerful. It is cheap and cheerful which means it is good value. They also serve a great breakfast. However, it has bed bugs which basically negates all the positives about the hotel so I can only give it a low rating.

I stayed at The Washington for two nights while attending a conference at the University of Bristol, conveniently located nearby. I am definitely not returning to this hotel. The cost of £75 per day meant I was not expecting luxury but did not prepare me for quite as poor an environment as that which I encountered. The hotel is unkept and in dire need of updating and repair. My room was at the basement, through an old staircase with peeling wallpaper and very visible signs of dump. Indeed, the ... Read more

The hotel is decent, the front desk / reception staff are very warm and helpful, though the hotel in itself is a little bit of a Maze, with rooms situated at various levels which are at lower ground level with narrow stairways, one stairway turning into another and then a door.... i wont recommend this hotel for the elderly for it.

Waited a while to check in as new staff member being trained by another staff member who already had two phones stuck to her head, it was nearly 5pm. Room was in the basement, I had booked with laterooms so maybe that's where Laterooms people get put; it did have a window that looked out onto the car park, there was a bit of a musty smell to the room but everything worked.
