Needed a one night stay to catch up with our grand-daughter who is at Uni..Chose The Washington on price and availability. We booked a family room B&B and three of us spent a comfortable night in a small but well equipped room with all facilities including a range of unusual hot drink options. Next morning we enjoyed a delicious traditional English breakfast served by very welcoming staff in a surprisingly light and airy dining room. All of this for £74 including £6 for on site parking spot,... Read more

Staff excellent helpful and very friendly . Our room 17 which was a good size was in need of a make over and the bathroom very small when using the toilet your knees touch the opposite wall and the furniture needed replacing. The beds very comfortable and clean although being a twin I think it was originally a double because the wall lights are to low over the beds. Breakfast very good although the second morning they seemed to be a mixup with the breakfast but we put that down to the many wai... Read more

The thing that saves this hotel from a poor review is the staff, especially Vanessa on reception (all round wonderful - really going out of her way to ensure that everything you could want was done!) and their temporary night receptionist James, who even though he was only there for one night, had obviously been given a thorough briefing and was keen to ensure guest satisfaction. The breakfast staff were also great and the breakfast of good quality, although a little sparse on quantity for the... Read more

I came with my family. We get the family room for 130 for two night with breakfast which is a pretty good deal. The breakfast was really good and staff was friendly and the room is clean. What else you can wish ? specially for that much money.

I don't normally take to trip advisor to write reviews because I think people can be picky however I have to warn you about this hotel . Full of cobwebs ,damp in the bathroom , in severe needing of an update, bedding smelt musky , dead batteries in tv remote asked for new ones got to used ones still didn't work, terrible decor ,no pressure in the shower I couldn't even wash my hair, told this to Andrea on reception (it's not her fault - she was lovely what could she do ) the breakfast was nice a... It is very difficult to word this review. I was 'put up' at the Washington Hotel after Clifton Short lets (an associated company, part of the Clifton group) failed to check me in - to cut a very long story short, they had messed their booking system up and the staff at the Washington were clueless and did not know what to do with me. I was given a double room in the basement - if you are given a room in the basement DO NOT STAY IN IT! The carpet was worn and frayed, it was dirty, damp and mouldy... Read more

On a short break to Bristol (4 nights) for a trip down memory lane, having worked a and lived in the city a number of years ago. We chose The Washington after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor as it seemed to meet our needs and budget. Found a space in the smallish car park at the rear (£6 per night), as on street parking is metered or residential. We were checked in smoothly and allocated a double room as requested. It was No 11 on the ground floor, just off reception. The room was high cei... Read more

I liked the location of the hotel, being not far from the centre of town. My room was comfortable but on second thought I should have booked one with ensuite facilities. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. I wonder whether lunch and dinner could be served on demand.

If you are looking for a shiny, sterile hotel with modern furniture and fittings, then The Washington is not for you. If you don't mind a bit of faded charm, and want a reasonably priced hotel in a great location with very helpful and friendly staff, then look no further. Easy walk to Clifton Village and to restaurants on Whiteladies Road, and the open top tourist bus stops just round the corner. Would happily return.

It's not 5 star luxury, but for 3 friends meeting for a weekend site seeking in Bristol it was perfectly placed and the staff, service and breakfast were great. My hairdryer did not work, and another one was bought to me. I left my charger at home and they loaned me one. My son will be attending an open day at Bristol University in September and we'll book again as it was so central.

Ok so I should start by saying if you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. The decor was drab and tired. In my room (17) there was a large stain in the middle of the carpet and the net curtain was torn at the bottom. When I sat up in bed and leant back, against the headboard, the bed kept rolling away from the wall. The sink in the ensuite was blocked and the TV was tiny (compared to other hotels I have stayed in for a similar price). Positives are that the staff were welcoming ... Read more

Booked hotel through Awesome weekends, our room was disgusting. It looked as if it had never been cleaned and the carpets were full of carpet moths!Refund was issued by hotel but should not have been expected to stay in such conditions in the first place, awesome weekends refuse full refund!

The Washington is a lovely little hotel. I stayed here for a week and a day. The hotel is clean and well priced. The receptionist Alexandra was amazing, very helpful and went out of her way to help me find a set of lost keys. She is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the local sites, restaurants and tours. Other reception staff were also helpful. The breakfast was a nice way to start the day during my stay. I recommend staying at this hotel if you want to stay in the heart of Bristol a... Read more

As a contractor staying away i am unfortunately at the mercy of my office booking through the .com companies so have little choice in where I go. The Washington is just dirty, it's dirty, smelly and filthy not to mention dated and dank. Reception were polite if not useless and work on the process of A through D any question other than standard is met with a blank unresponsive gaze until you just give up.. From this point on my stay at this crap hole was limited to under 3 minutes .. I was gi... Read more

Had a long journey to Bristol from Lancashire. Received a warm welcome from the receptionist on arrival. We had a fantastic night with family and friends, the hotel is situated in a great location for city centre and the Clifton village area. Had a lovely quiet room (no 3) until the following morning! Only to discover we were right next to the dining room from early morning we could hear every person opening and closing the doors. The room was lovely and clean with everything you need avail... We stayed at The Washington after going down to Bristol to visit some friends. We were only using it as a cheap base (though it wasn't really that cheap but was the cheapest we could find). You do get what you pay for but as it was still more than I would consider to be a budget price I do have a couple of pointers. Firstly the receptionists were lovely and friendly. Couldn't fault them, they were extremely helpful and reception was open 24hrs. Breakfast was great. However I don't think it was ... Read more

We booked the washington as it was a good price, had private parking (£6 a night - cheaper than the city carparks) and offered a triple room and breakfast. Our trip to Bristol was for a gig in the O2 in the city centre, its about a 20 minute walk and really easy to find. The Wahsingtons in Clifton which looks like a pretty cool area, some nice bars and cafes around. The room was comfortable a double and a single bed, towels, toiletries and coffee and tea supplies, with some lovely shortbread b... Read more

I frequently travel to Bristol on Business and have found the Washington to be an excellent base, with good rates, basic but comfortable rooms and helpful staff. Alexandra the receptionist went out of her way to help me sort out bookings for future trips which was most helpful and a great help

Look past the creaky floors, squeaky doors, old fittings, and low pressure shower. That's all "character". We found friendly, helpful staff, a comfortable bed and excellent location. We only paid 6 pound/day for off-street parking. Good value.

Stayed here recently with a friend as we were attending Bristol harbour festival. Arriving the receptionist was very nice and told us how to get a bus into the harbour or walk. The rooms are VERY dated, the walls have newer paint over older paint in parts, chunks missing out of the wall etc. it could really do with a revamp to help it look more attractive. The breakfast was nice, nothing to rave about but did the trick. We only stayed here due to most hotels being fully booked, I probably wou... Read more

I stayed in a room close to the reception area. It may have been room 14 or 15 - a twin room. A member of staff seemed to find my surname amusing upon checkin which was not the most professional start in my opinion. Being near the reception did lead to a slightly noisy room. The room itself looked in need of decorating. It had a tired, used look. The ensuite was fine. The window overlooked the hotel's car park which is not free of charge. Breakfast was served in a basement room down some... Read more

I didn't get to stay in the hotel. I made a booking for 3 rooms through booking .com. I received an email confirming my booking. En route to the hotel I received a phone call from the hotel saying they didn't have 3 rooms available. Well they said they had 2 single rooms available but if I wanted a third room I needed to pay an extra £30 on what I had already paid. I told them to forget, just cancel my booking seeing you couldn't meet the booking. They told me I had to cancel through boo... Read more

We stayed 4 nights in the Washington because in booking. Com the rooms and the whole Hotel looked new and clean and wonderfull. We were highly surprised as we saw our room. The floor was dirty so was the bed. It was thick air and the bathroom had a small animal in it and it was wet and grey. Further more the breakfast was little disappointing but the stuff on the reseption was very very friendly especially an italian woman. She gave us exellent information were to eat and were to go.
