Needed a one night stay to catch up with our grand-daughter who is at Uni..Chose The Washington on price and availability. We booked a family room B&B and three of us spent a comfortable night in a small but well equipped room with all facilities including a range of unusual hot drink options. Next morning we enjoyed a delicious traditional English breakfast served by very welcoming staff in a surprisingly light and airy dining room. All of this for £74 including £6 for on site parking spot,... Read more

Staff excellent helpful and very friendly . Our room 17 which was a good size was in need of a make over and the bathroom very small when using the toilet your knees touch the opposite wall and the furniture needed replacing. The beds very comfortable and clean although being a twin I think it was originally a double because the wall lights are to low over the beds. Breakfast very good although the second morning they seemed to be a mixup with the breakfast but we put that down to the many wai... Read more

The thing that saves this hotel from a poor review is the staff, especially Vanessa on reception (all round wonderful - really going out of her way to ensure that everything you could want was done!) and their temporary night receptionist James, who even though he was only there for one night, had obviously been given a thorough briefing and was keen to ensure guest satisfaction. It is very difficult to word this review. I was 'put up' at the Washington Hotel after Clifton Short lets (an associated company, part of the Clifton group) failed to check me in - to cut a very long story short, they had messed their booking system up and the staff at the Washington were clueless and did not know what to do with me. I was given a double room in the basement - if you are given a room in the basement DO NOT STAY IN IT! The carpet was worn and frayed, it was dirty, damp and mouldy... Read more

On a short break to Bristol (4 nights) for a trip down memory lane, having worked a and lived in the city a number of years ago. We chose The Washington after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor as it seemed to meet our needs and budget. Found a space in the smallish car park at the rear (£6 per night), as on street parking is metered or residential. We were checked in smoothly and allocated a double room as requested. It was No 11 on the ground floor, just off reception. The room was high cei... Read more

I liked the location of the hotel, being not far from the centre of town. My room was comfortable but on second thought I should have booked one with ensuite facilities. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. I wonder whether lunch and dinner could be served on demand.

If you are looking for a shiny, sterile hotel with modern furniture and fittings, then The Washington is not for you. If you don't mind a bit of faded charm, and want a reasonably priced hotel in a great location with very helpful and friendly staff, then look no further. Easy walk to Clifton Village and to restaurants on Whiteladies Road, and the open top tourist bus stops just round the corner. Would happily return.

It's not 5 star luxury, but for 3 friends meeting for a weekend site seeking in Bristol it was perfectly placed and the staff, service and breakfast were great. My hairdryer did not work, and another one was bought to me. I left my charger at home and they loaned me one. My son will be attending an open day at Bristol University in September and we'll book again as it was so central.

Ok so I should start by saying if you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. The decor was drab and tired. In my room (17) there was a large stain in the middle of the carpet and the net curtain was torn at the bottom. When I sat up in bed and leant back, against the headboard, the bed kept rolling away from the wall. The sink in the ensuite was blocked and the TV was tiny (compared to other hotels I have stayed in for a similar price). Positives are that the staff were welcoming ... Read more

Stayed for one night. Overall the cleanliness of the hotel is good, great breakfast but the hotel could benefit from a revamp as it is looking very tired. It is in a great location for exploring the super area of Clifton and I'm sure it could be very good if 'tidied up'

Very agreeably surprised, because I got this room at a real budget online last minute rate, and also because I'd had a bad experience a few years back at a sister hotel in the same street (that was seriously grotty, but perhaps it's since been renovated). The friendly helpful and efficient 24 hour staff bent over backwards to give every assistance. I had a quiet no-frills family room on the first floor with twin & double beds & a basic but functional bathroom. Although the decor is tired, partic... Read more

Was not expecting much after reading some reviews, the room we had was small stayed for two nights but it was clean and tidy. The carpets do need replacing along with the general decorations, burn in the net curtain, carpets thread bear in places. Bed was really comfortable though. On arrival the receptionist was very polite giving us all the information we needed for our stay. Breakfast staff were great really fast service making sure we had tea Nd coffee when needed did not have to ask for thes... Read more

Stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night in a single room. Staff were welcoming and polite and efficient but the building is just awful. The decor in the room tired, dated and shabby. Bathroom suite awful, lime scaled taps. Bed was dreadful, old and uncomfortable. Bed sheets clean but not the blanket on top of the sheet nor he bedspread which looked like it had seen better days (or years). Had to pull the bed out to properly tuck in the bottom sheet (since that was directly on top of the mattres... Read more

This hotel may represent a budget option for short periods. The building is definitely quircky and in need of renovation, but the rooms are clean and the staff (the key strenght!) is friendly and hepful.

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend my sons graduation ceremony at the cathedral. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The car park was very handy and good value at £6 per night. The hotel was very convenient for the city centre and Clifton. I booked it through a travel site it was very good value it also included a full English breakfast which was very nice. 3 hours wifi were also included although there were posters in the hotel encouraging guests to book direct for the best value and ... Firstly, I'd like to thank the attentive and hardworking staff. Sadly, the hotel is not up too standard. The carpets are old and tired and the room I stayed in had not been decorated for decades. The curtains did not even fit the windows. I appreciate the building is grade two listed but that does not warrant windows that do not keep out a draft, bathrooms that are out of order or floor boards that creak so loudly you're woken in the night. £65 for a single room with no en-suite with the ne... Stayed here for 3 nights. This hotel is budget and very basic. The rooms are old and tired but was clean. There is a car park at the rear of the hotel and you will need a pass code to get in. They charge £6 per night. Location was convenient. Breakfast was included in the price and was nothing to rave about. One sausage, one rasher of bacon, one egg, beans, mushrooms, one hash brown and one slice of toast. The Reception staff were friendly. Hotel was booked after reading great reviews!

I would fully recommend the Washington. The staff we're brilliant, the breakfast enjoyable and I've come away having no issues during my stay. The hotel itself is tired and the décor could probably do with a lick of paint. But saying that the slightly tired look does give it character, as opposed to the generic Travelodge look that most budget places seem to have. Will return next time we visit Bristol.

This is a lovely hotel in Clifton, very clean lovely staff , the rooms are equipped with real coffee and cafetière, and hot chocolate, towels in the shape of a swan a nice touch and fresh fruit, sadly only for the first night, the breakfast is delicious all fresh ingredients, and the breakfast staff are excellent, one small peeve you have to pay for parking £6 per night and no guarantee of a space, will be staying again tho, my two dogs Milly & Bella loved it
