A few bad reviews, but it was handy for my stay in Bristol. Turns out the rooms are clean and tidy, staff are pleasant and courteous and the bar is great. Some nice choice of wines. Plus it's a stones throw from some decent eating places. Would definitely come again.

I stayed here for one night only on a Saturday. The double bedroom had recently been refurbished and was clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and did everything possible to make sure that my stay was a pleasant one. The breakfast was superb. The Clifton is a delightful 2 Star hotel with a 5 Star attitude.

I was staying in Bristol for a four-day conference and chose the Clifton for its convenient location and good price. I was impressed by the helpfulness of the staff on check-in, and their ongoing friendliness throughout my stay. My room was small but did the job (I'd chosen a single, since I would be out at the conference most of my stay). It was a little warm at times in the evening (I was on the ground floor so couldn't open the windows), but otherwise ticked all the boxes. Good WIFI, nice sho... Read more

Visited this hotel with a group of 30. Had issues with the heat in the rooms that the staff would not solve. The water pressure in one of the rooms (#60) was non-existannt and there was not ANY hot water. Staff just said that that particular room always has hot water problems. Not attempt to fix. Breakfast was good, if it came within 45 minutes of ordering, but typically did not and so we ate toast and sipped coffee. The cost of the breakfast was too expensive for just toast and coffee. Had huge issues with the level of noise at this hotel. Was advised on booking that myself and my daughter would be put in a quiet part of the hoteL, due to the fact that my daughter had a very important appointment the following day. What the hotel does not tell you is that there is basically a nightclub operating in the basement, therefore there is no such thing as a quiet room. When I asked what time the "function" would be over, the receptionist replied 11pm. This turned out not to be true,si... Read more

I stayed in room 12 of this establishment for just one night 6/6/2016 (thankfully). The room itself was poorly decorated (even though it had allegedly been refurbished) and the furniture was something your grandparents might have owned. I came back from a day out with friends (who booked and paid for this room) I had just been visiting for a birthday surprise about 10.30pm and decided to have a quick watch of the tv before bed. My Nana is unfortunately terminally ill and as a result, has low mobility. This was explained when booking the hotel, and they were so helpful. They kept in contact with us, looked after my Nana and gave her a comfortable bed and lovely breakfast. My Nana really enjoyed her stay. Very good value for money. The only reason I have given 4 stars is because they did not inform us of the steps up to the hotel, and the room was very small, with a steep step up into the bathroom, which worried me when ... As well as the usual coffee and biscuits, a bowl of fruit had been provided. On a lower floor there is both a restaurant and smaller cafe/bar with a good choice of food. The menu is imagina... This place is warm, has a comfy bed, a lovely warm shower, it's got a Bar, it's cheap and smack bang in the middle of Bristol. Yes it's a bit dated looking, but who spends all day looking at their hotel room ?! No issues at all.

Nothing positive to say about this place I'm afraid. Most uncomfortable bed, bedroom doors don't fit frames so noise from corridor and lift. Windows rattle and drafts. Had to share my smelly room with the biggest bluebottle I have ever seen. Tried to sort with the young receptionist but she was too busy as running hotel on her own! I had this hotel booked for 4 nights and checked out after the first, an experience I will never forget. Bar downstairs was not much better I'm afraid. All feels dirt... Read more

When I turned up at the hotel I was told that I had cancelled my three night booking a while ago. However when I showed them an e-mail they had sent 3 days before referring to my pending visit I was quickly found a room. This was on the top floor at the end of the building. It was very small, the wall paper was curling up at the seams, the heating was luke warm and and I spent a sleepless night on what was probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever lain on. The mattress was old and finished... Read more

I stayed there on a Saturday night in one of the single room. The room was small but had all you need. The hotel could do with a bit of refurb in corridors (floor really noisy and carpet tired) and also a bit of paint in the room. The free fruit basket in the room was a nice touch. The Italian receptionist was really nice and smiley (can't remember her name sorry). I struggled to find the place thinking it was only a café until I discovered the Reception on the left side. I had a long thought o... Read more

The building is old and has been converted to accommodation My room was dark with wall lights, it was so warm even with the heater off, i could not open a window for fresh air. The windows are single glazed, so noise from the street. The door did not fit or close properly. at night you would get light coming in to the room through the badly fitted door jams. Also you can hear guest walking along the corridor past your door. And i could hear the guest pacing about in the room above. The receptio... Read more

Have worked away a lot and stayed in this class of hotel I was pleasantly surprised Hotel is well placed, the bar is very welcoming and had a good atmosphere however shut too early for residents (for a weekend) Breakfast was good and the young staff were always helpful Negatives my bed was awful and the place looks a little tired Would stay here again.

My daughter and I stayed here to attend a local Rock venue on Sunday night. We were made to feel very welcome by Jeka and Dorotea on reception (we had a good old chat about music!) and our room was very comfortable. The complimentary welcome tray of fresh fruit, real tea leaves and fresh ground coffee beans was a lovely touch too. When it came to breakfast......well.......YUMMY!! Great service, friendly and helpful staff, just perfect when you can't stop rocking!!

If you by some unfortunate reason stay at the Clifton hotel Bristol. You should take video of what it's in the room when you arrive. Although you pay for a room you would think the toiletry are included and not expecting to be change £20 For SOAP yes soap after you have check out? But when I mention the shower not working correctly nothing was done. I done think I will be staying there again

In an increasingly corporate and plastic world, it has been refreshing to stay in a friendly and charming hotel. Excellent location for all Clifton and central Bristol has to offer, but also has its own bar and restaurant offering good food at a reasonable price...with a buzzing but ultimately relaxing vibe. The staff in all functions have been helpful, friendly and genuinely interested in enhancing our stay. Recommended.

Stayed here with my grandson as I was taking him to the zoo , wasn't very impressed with the room as they were old and looked like been converted from a house, but it did the job and we had a good night's sleep before our day at the zoo so this is why it got 4 stars from us

Travelling by oneself can be not so much fun but I found that the Clifton Hotel made it a great experience. It's an older style place, and quaint in many ways, but it retains an older style sense of looking after its guests with courtesy and hospitality. This extends to offering complimentary fruit in the room on arrival, along with good quality teas. It's in a lovely location, close to Clifton Village and the Clifton suspension bridge. Access readily available from (and to) Temple Meads on the ... Read more

We had a lovely room, which had been recently renovated and was spotlessly clean - thank you Agnieszka, our room attendant! The modern bathroom was of a high standard. The location was perfect for exploring Bristol and Clifton, but also peaceful. The reception area had a warm friendly atmosphere where there was a great cafe run by Maria. The receptionists, Dorotea and Jeka, were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was good and there was also a well stocked tea tray a... Read more

Stayed in the Clifton hotel last night to spend time with relatives in Bristol. Was a bit worried about the mixed reviews but so glad we went ahead and stayed there.Brilliant location, had room 22 which was an executive double, good value for money, comfy bed in fact best nights sleep we've ever had in a hotel, quiet, very clean, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast really good. Good atmosphere in Racks. We' ll definitely stay there again.

I arrived at this hotel with some trepidation having read some truly awful recent reviews. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised by my experience. The hotel is excellent value for money. Very well placed for the University and Clifton village. I was in a top floor single room. It was small and a little tired, but spotlessly clean with a window which opened and a clean bathroom with a bath and shower and complimentary, good quality soap and conditioner. There was also a cafetiere and gro... Read more

I stayed solo for one night in November for a 'boys ( OK then, old mens ) reunion, so all that was required was a clean bedroom and bathroom - both fixed at a very reasonable price. Arrived by public transport so can't comment on the car parking arrangements. Reception staff very pleasant and welcoming. Room 12 on the ground floor, whilst not being spacious ( two may struggle, especially with baggage) was clean and adequate for my needs, looking as if it has recently been renovated. TV, coffe...
