A few bad reviews, but it was handy for my stay in Bristol. Turns out the rooms are clean and tidy, staff are pleasant and courteous and the bar is great. Some nice choice of wines. Plus it's a stones throw from some decent eating places. Would definitely come again.

I stayed here for one night only on a Saturday. The double bedroom had recently been refurbished and was clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and did everything possible to make sure that my stay was a pleasant one. The breakfast was superb. The Clifton is a delightful 2 Star hotel with a 5 Star attitude.

No, no no, have I made myself clear? Friendly staff who did offer a room move when I called down rather late at night!!! Rubbish Wifi, even with special password, very noisy especially from bar below. Clean sheets; and hot water; and of course in Clifton, perhaps only two nos then?

I was staying in Bristol for a four-day conference and chose the Clifton for its convenient location and good price. I was impressed by the helpfulness of the staff on check-in, and their ongoing friendliness throughout my stay. My room was small but did the job (I'd chosen a single, since I would be out at the conference most of my stay). It was a little warm at times in the evening (I was on the ground floor so couldn't open the windows), but otherwise ticked all the boxes. Good WIFI, nice sho... Read more

Visited this hotel with a group of 30. Had issues with the heat in the rooms that the staff would not solve. The water pressure in one of the rooms (#60) was non-existannt and there was not ANY hot water. Staff just said that that particular room always has hot water problems. Not attempt to fix. Breakfast was good, if it came within 45 minutes of ordering, but typically did not and so we ate toast and sipped coffee. The cost of the breakfast was too expensive for just toast and coffee. Had huge issues with the level of noise at this hotel. Was advised on booking that myself and my daughter would be put in a quiet part of the hoteL, due to the fact that my daughter had a very important appointment the following day. What the hotel does not tell you is that there is basically a nightclub operating in the basement, therefore there is no such thing as a quiet room. When I asked what time the "function" would be over, the receptionist replied 11pm. This turned out not to be true,si... Read more

Stayed here as our flight was delayed, great place for a night in Bristol, comfortable room, friendly staff and very pleasant atmosphere. Would like to disagree with the people who were upset by noise; it's a lively place. Cafetière in the room was a nice touch and the fruit was very welcome.

Ok. Firstly the bed was comfy, great secure parking and staff on hand to check 10 of us in at 11.30 pm with no problems. That is where it stops. We were told in the morning that there was a wedding and it would be noisy til 12.30. We were all going to a 2 day festival and using hotel as a better alternative to camping!!!! So we're not particularly concerned about noise Room 31. On arrival at 11.30 we found no lights working. Went to reception to ask for maintenance and were told no maintenance,h... Read more

I stayed in room 12 of this establishment for just one night 6/6/2016 (thankfully). The room itself was poorly decorated (even though it had allegedly been refurbished) and the furniture was something your grandparents might have owned. I came back from a day out with friends (who booked and paid for this room) I had just been visiting for a birthday surprise about 10.30pm and decided to have a quick watch of the tv before bed. The tv was attached to the wall via a bracket and the plug at the ba... Read more

My Nana is unfortunately terminally ill and as a result, has low mobility. This was explained when booking the hotel, and they were so helpful. They kept in contact with us, looked after my Nana and gave her a comfortable bed and lovely breakfast. My Nana really enjoyed her stay. Very good value for money. The only reason I have given 4 stars is because they did not inform us of the steps up to the hotel, and the room was very small, with a steep step up into the bathroom, which worried me when ... Complimentary tea,coffee,fruits-perfect if you not too keen on getting up early for breakfast . View out of my window was lovely, big windows, sunny side of a building.Staff were great! Where to start.. The car park is a secure garage approx 50yds from hotel, problem is the very small sign for it is about 30 foot up a lamppost and after driving past it for several minutes I admitted defeat and called for directions. The third call was answered and I got parked. I was given an executive single. The room was L shaped and tiny. By that I mean you cannot carry your case beside you in it. The decor was dated and tired looking. The bathroom is so small you have to squeeze against the... Read more

My name is Phongkon Weerpiput. I came from Thailand. This was the first time in UK. I was happy. I reached to The Clifton Hotel at 01.10 pm. on 12 June 2016. I was exited. Thank you someone, I didn't know her name. I knew that she was the receptionist on 12 June 2016 at 06.00 pm. I had a problem about TV. She serviced me very good. And the others were polite and good service for me. Thank you.

I stayed here for a conference in a small single room which was dated and fairly uncomfortable. It was also very hot at the time I stayed, although on the second night the staff gave me a fan when I asked. On the plus side, the breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly.

I was actually booked into the Berkeley A=Square Hotel in Bristol but the hotel cancelled my booking and put me in their sister hotel, or at least that is what they told me. The Clifton Hotel is quite inferior with very small bedrooms with worn carpets and a tiny somewhat grubby shower and toilet room. I did not actually use it. You get a single bed. The bar below the hotel was fine and the dinner and breakfast no complaints. But I would not stay again. THe price charged was far more than one ca... Read more

I was in Bristol for a month on a business trip and Clifton was nearby to my workplace. After reaching Bristol, I drove straight to the hotel and was well received by the receptionist. I checked in to my room and was quite impressed with the way it was maintained. The breakfast (included in my B&B booking) provided was of very good quality and there were a few options available based on our interest. I recently stayed here for a stag do with a large group. We each had individual rooms which made the check in process in which they take a swipe of everyone's card a little long-winded but the receptionist was very friendly and doing things as quickly as possible. My room was higher up, I think third floor, and was dated although functional. There was a TV as well as a kettle and complimentary things to make tea and coffee. The room was however too hot for a comfortable night and was fairly nois... Read more

I opened the bedroom door and two things struck me: it was tiny; and, secondly in stark relief the large white swan that was sitting on my child size bed. It turned out of course to be my bath towel. The highlight of my stay. The little card perched in front of my swan asked my views. One question was on cleanliness. Now I‚??m sure they regularly dust and polish most parts of the hotel but it was the more ingrained dirt that struck me. My headboard, bright crimson velvet (yes I know), was unifo... Read more

I've stayed here in a business trip; I was a bit concerned after several reviews I had read, but I don't think the hotel is bad at all. The rooms are small, yes, and I had a momentary problem with hot water, but all in all, the hotel is not expensive, the rooms are very clean and the staff is delightfully nice! on top of that, I've really liked their having Spanish speaking staff (Patricia and María) that were both helpful and nice! I don't have problems with speaking English, but it is defini... Read more

Very uncomfortable stay. The staff had no interest in guest comfort or service. Follow-up feedback was ignored, they clearly have no intention of improving it. Stay away from this place at all costs! - Shower head leaked, meaning that much of the water that is meant to be sprayed out of the showerhead, dribbles out of a hole instead. - Shower dripped endlessly when turned off. - Not possible to get a water temperature in the shower that wasn't scalding or cold. - Shower nozzle holder did not ... I choose this hotel because of its location to The Wills memorial building for my daughters graduation. I was pleasantly surprised by its location and its amenities. Not great. So expensive for what you get. My hotel door didn't even lock so had to leave it open whilst I went out and they sorted it. Very run down. The location was the only good thing about it and probably why they charge a fortune per night. Would not recommend. Sorry.

Booked a single executive room, given room 29 - very small and difficult to move around. I questioned why it was executive...it had been refurbished and tbh the bathroom was lovely if tiny....however had great difficulty getting into shower as the side that opened was level with the basin which was quite large.....you need to be a contortionist to get into it. Once in it promises a lot but fails to deliver, dripping and either too hot or too cold (pity as lovely sunflower shower head). Some nice... Read more

Rooms are hot and no air con, you can open the windows but one side has a bar and wedding venue immediately below so noisy until midnight. The double bed is smaller than standard shorter so feels more claustrophobic than usual - especially on a hot night. Room decor very dated, bathroom floor is wonky - the shower head leaked so more water ran out down the side as opposed to out of the head and over me and water was cold. No lights in the ceiling of the bedroom area, only bedside lights so lat... Read more

Location in Clifton is good and the staff very friendly/helpful, but otherwise nothing going for this hotel. Shower very weak, they replaced the shower head, but still poor. Decor very dull, cafe downstairs very uninspiring and breakfast was appalling. All in all very poor quality and definitely not good value for money AT ALL.

Room small and poorly designed - had to close bathroom door to open wardrobe. Clean but public spaces needed updating. I have never received such a badly organised breakfast. Everyone in the room had to wait an hour to be served. Buffet consisted of cereals. Too expensive for this poor quality. Hotel location good.

Paid extra to have an executive single with a fridge. I arrive and the room is tiny, directly next to the air vent, so nice, loud buzzing included. My room did not have a fridge unlike stated on the website and upon inquiry I was informed that not all executive singles have a fridge, only certain ones (and upon request beforehand one would be able to get one with a fridge). I feel a bit ripped off, as this was the reason I was happy to pay more and should definitely be stated! I requested a room... Read more
