A lovely venue for Champagne afternoon Tea. Choice of tea's, a glass of lovely Champagne a nice selection of finger sandwiches, two scones with clotted cream each & 3 more other cakes each, also unlimited tea. £25.50 each. We could not finish all the food, we were too full. It was all lovely and fresh and very tasty, I would recommend the afternoon tea. If I could criticise anything it would have been nice to have it served in proper China cups & saucers & a nice tea pot. This would have made i... Read more

Attended a convention at the Marriot. Couldn't fault staff, services or room. Very central location (although a bit noisy outside in the wee hours). Only gripe was the dreadful meal served at a 'gala dinner' which defied belief both at its cost and the quality, plus the attached bar was displaying different prices on the price list and the till...

The first comment I want to make is regarding the staff at this hotel, utterly charming and attentive, smiling and pleasant. They give a wonderful first impression and the management should be proud (and adequately compensate them, especially the tiny housekeepers pushing huge trolleys round the corridors). The hotel, itself, is perfectly located in a central location. It's an old building and very impressive from the outside, so first impressions are favourable. The favourable impression conti... We stayed as a couple for a weekend mid May to catch up with family in Bristol. We arrived by air and took the Bristol Flyer bus service downtown and walked the final few hundred meters to the hotel . Check in was very smooth and efficient. The desk staff were very friendly and welcoming. As a frequent traveller I asked about which mileage programs the Marriot is affilliated to and it turns out you need to be a member of the Marriot program to be able to benefit. First visit to this hotel (staying for the Crimefest) and very happy with it. Booked superior room, which was a good size. Decent breakfast. Staff at Reception helpful and friendly. The room had one of those ancient filter paper coffee makers, which we could not get to work properly. Wish they would provide modern cafetieres! Hotel is in excellent city centre location. You have to pay for parking (think it was £16 per day) underneath the hotel, but it is convenient.

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel a few nights ago. I stayed for 2 nights and I also enjoyed afternoon tea in the drawing room. I have stayed at many Marriott hotels around the world and have stayed here several times. I had a bad experience on my last stay, but the team were fantastic about this and offered me a free night to add onto my already booked night. I had a fantastic welcome back and was offered the usual perks being a gold member. The breakfast although extremely busy was superb, pl... Read more

We were two adults and an 18 year old. This is a return trip to this hotel for us. The food is fantastic and service is great. Our only disappointment was their formal dining is now for special events only. The history and architecture is well worth the stay. Their artwork collection is extremely good. For a historic hotel, it is quite possibly one of the cleanest I have ever stayed.

Very warm and competent reception staff - lovely room with large bathroom, well fitted out. Good space to store clothes (hanging space and drawers). Good-sized safe in the room. Excellent service in the Walter's (on-site) bar (great cocktails, and snack food to order too), and the similarly-named restaurant.

From its city centre location the Marriott Royal is head and shoulders above her sister hotel the Marriott City Centre. This is more of an old charm setting where the uniformed concierges offer a glass of wine while you await to be checked in. The service is excellent and the rooms spacey and more than comfortable. An old hotel that is a bit faded around the edges but in a nice way. Nice room and good breakfast. Staff couldn't be more helpful and very friendly. Parking is £16 but it seemed worth that given the very central location to the city centre. Only downside was paying for wifi which was slightly unexpected as in most hotels it's now free.

Stayed for 1 night whilst visiting the university. Perfect location, central though quiet with easy access to Bristol and the university. Parking available. Staff were very friendly with a free G&T offered at my check in .. ! Plenty of recommendations for good local restaurants. Room was very comfortable. The pool was fine but could have done with a lady attendant keeping the ladies changing rooms clean.

Great place to stay, bar expensive but then they all are. Lunch provided was not up to much, buffet with small portions of cold fish and chips, which was weird. Other than this the rooms are lovely and bright. I would return due to the central location and distance to train station.

Enjoyed the staff at this hotel. The rooms were a bit boutique but were very clean. They missed cleaning our room one day, but I think there was a misunderstanding on our part. They offered to remedy by cleaning it, but it was late and we settled on a change of towels. I would recommend this hotel.

We chose this hotel because of ratings and location. Location is great though a hotel in Clifton area would be much better. But the real complaint is: they need to renovate the entire hotel. Carpets, tiles, furniture everything is aged. Another disappointment was we woke up at 4:30 AM with fire alarm. We left the room and followed the crowd to the outside and there was no hotel personnel to guide us. We waited outside and then entered the reception and there was still no explanation no manager ... Stayed here for a night and it felt like I was at one of those cheap old hotels schools take their students to. The carpets, walls, tiles, furniture etc were all old and dirty looking. There was a fire alarm at 4am and it was handled so unprofessionally! Only plus point is that it's in a central location. But may just be better to stay somewhere near Clifton as it's prettier. And Bristol is small enough to walk to city centre anyway

This is not a bad hotel. The trouble is at the price they charge it's not the fantastic hotel it should be. The rooms are nice and well furnished if a little dated. The TV system could do with bringing out of the 90's as it's a faff to use. The communal areas are a bit tired and could do with a lot of TLC. The carpets are worn, paint peeling and I saw the carpet screwed down in places on the stairs to prevent trip hazards. I will say the staff were very good, from the receptionists to the waitin... Also less than 10 minute walk to Colston Hall, which was the purpose of my visit. We were invited to the Royal Marriott to attend an awards ceremony, we also had rooms in the hotel which made it so much easier and hassle free. Everything was perfect, the room for the awards were of a good size and standard, we were not disappointed. The rooms were comfortable, clean and all you would expect from a city hotel. Ideal location just 2 minute walk to the waterfront, bars cafes etc. I would stay here again.

This is a very good hotel in a fantastic locations, very near the cathedral and lots of good bars and restaurants, safe secure underground parking, nothing particularly outstanding nor bad...just a big Marriot, so what you might expect, with some traditional lovely public internals, just not in the rooms

Perfectly placed for river, theatre, restaurants. Bit of a hike to cabot Circus. Lovely hotel. Comfy bed. Good sized rooms. Nice linen. Very friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant staff very accommodating when we arrived back late. If weather permits eat outside opposite the cathedral - lovely. Would definitely return.

Booked for 1 night. Check in service was warm and welcoming. Room was nice upgraded but view was over road but no noise to disturb sleep. Little touches like the flapjacks were appreciated. Room was dusty and attention needed to areas of wallpaper coming away from wall. Lovely breakfast buffet but cooked fresh. Overall lovely stay.

Stayed at the Royal Marriott Bristol for 1 night at the weekend for a wedding. Check in was good, but rooms not available until 16.00 so had to travel in best gear. The hotel is well placed in Bristol with a short stroll to the waterfront and quays. Really good clean rooms with everything you need. Breakfast was really excellent. Checkout was very slick with friendly staff. One thing to be aware of is the hotel car park, which has a very tight entrance and smallish parking bays. If you have a 4x... Read more

Whilst the hotel is a bit tired it is really lovely with lots of marble and shandelears and is well situated in the centre of town. The room and bed were very comfortable and the Breakfast scored 8/10, IE the eggs were cooked fresh.

Hotel is in great location for sightseeing on College Green with walk up Park St to the University area and close to Harbourside amenities for restaurants, bars and entertainment. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was reasonable and is open to 11am which is good after an evening out ! Not sure when it was refurbished but is showing it's age a little. The bedroom was clean (although did drop something under the bed and there was a thick layer of dust/detritus which shouldn't rea... Read more

Great location, friendly helpful staff! Rooms are nice bed comfy. We had a superior room which was perfect. You're near to everywhere but not noisy, breakfast buffet was really nice. We came in a group and the variety of rooms and deals on offer suited everyone.

A number of reviewers have mentioned how tired this hotel is and it is undoubtable. The duvet was old and thin, the bedsheets were tearing due to age, the phone was from the 80s and was custard yellow with age, there was a naff plastic corner shower bath with fixed shower and thin curtain. The decor was neutral but the carpet a hideous worn out 80s disaster. Apart from this the hotel is in a great location with very good staff. Some costs are ridiculous such as the wifi charge and the expensive... Read more

I dined in the Walters restaurant and as a solo traveller I was very glad of the attentive service I received. Maria looked after me from start to finish and I made sure I remembered her name as she was so sweet and really made sure I was comfortable. She was very kind and considerate even offering a small blanket to put over my shoulders as I felt the cold. The food was superb and I was interested in learning more about Bristol so Maria gave me some interesting books to read about the history o... Read more

Everything about the outside of this hotel oozes character and spells luxury. I was so looking forward to staying a very special night here for my birthday that my wife organised for us. Check in was quick and easy, and after we parked in the hotels own car park, we made our way to our suite. The room was amazing, the best in the hotel apparently with a circular lounge area with approximately 300 degrees views of Bristol (more of that later) and a lovely bedroom, and bathroom. All very luxurious... Read more

Stayed one night whilst in Bristol meeting friends. Every member of staff we spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was great, very spacious, clean and comfortable. Having a car park on site was really useful and made the checking in process seamless. Highly recommended.

My mother, my cousin and I stayed in Bristol for 1 night at the lovely Marriott lovely. It was a little had to get to with all the road work in Bristol at present, however, the location was beautiful just passed the green. The museum was a short 10-minute work. There were plenty of local cafes, pubs, and restaurants to eat at. The hotel room was spacious, clean, included tea and biscuits (the traditional touch). The shower was lovely with nice clean bathroom. I would stay again. The only ne... Read more

We stayed in the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel in January 2016 whilst vistiing friends in the local area. On our way to the hotel from London, we realised that we had forgotten the travel cot and called the hotel to request one. When we arrived at the hotel to check in, there was a travel cot and a lovely gift pack of children's toiletries waiting for us. A very pleasant surprise for what was a last minute request! The hotel location is fantastic and the amenities are great. Would stay there agai... Read more

This is a lovely hotel situated on College Green. The hotel was built in the 1800's and retains a regal air combined with all the modern amenities you would expect of a Marriott hotel. The staff are welcoming and helpful. When asked if we were there for business or pleasure we told them we were visiting the hospital for tests. Within a short time of settling into our room a Get Well Card and plate of beautiful fruit was delivered. Housekeeping brought us lots of extra tea, coffee and biscuits. W... Read more

We booked a de luxe room , which, whilst comfortable did not really deserve to be described as anything but standard, having no fridge, bath robes or coffee table. The staff here are amazing, being both efficient and friendly, really nothing is too much trouble for them. A great team. What truly lets the Marriott royal down is the catering. The evening dinner menu is very limited, uninspired and on this occasion, almost cold on arrival. Breakfast turned out to be even worse. Luke warm from a bu... Read more

Stayed over the weekend for my sisters wedding. We checked in on The Friday, and check in was a little slow, however we did arrive an hour earlier than the check in time and in a big group. We had a great time, and after our pre-wedding meal on the Friday and after a few too many beverages, I woke up in unfamiliar surroundings in what can only be described as the most comfiest bed EVER! In fact I had to stay awake until breakfast just so I could appreciate the bed more than wasting it on slee... Read more

First time we have stayed here. Very busy, which is to be expected for a city centre location such as this. Very easy to drive to and the underground car park is a real plus. (Tight spaces though!). Rooms were of a good standard, and whilst the restaurant was busy at breakfast time the quality of the food was good. There were some functions on whilst we were there, but they did not bother us too much barbecue we were up on the 4th floor. Only negatives are that some of the lifts have to be acces... Read more

The location is great - less than 5 minutes' walk to the Waterfront and about 5 minutes' walk to the university. It is on College Green, which is very attractive. The room was large, clean and well-equipped and the beds comfortable. It is slightly dated, and the main sitting rooms could do with up-dating, but this really didn't matter to us. The staff were very friendly and helpful and really went the extra mile. Breakfast could have been better, but was fine. Overall, a good place to stay... Read more

We stayed here for my daughter's graduation as the location was perfectly suited to our needs. I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful and the room was very comfortable. Or room faced onto an untenable courtyard which meant us was quiet. In some places the hotel looks a little 'tired' but I quite liked that ( I was a little tired too)! Stayed here a couple of days ago, the room was good, clean and tidy, the bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast, we had it included in our room rate but if i had to have paid for it at £17 pp for a full english l would have been very miffed, it was a buffet style, the plates were cold and you queued for your food, by the time you returned to your table the food, which was only average, was alrea...
