Stayed last weekend with my daughter 13 and son 17, she had a single room and I shared a double with my 17 year old son. The rooms were clean and the beds ok. The whole place felt devoid of flair or imagination- it was all merely adequate. Very standard fair for the UK, a case 'of that will do' /mediocrity. This simply wouldn't do let me tell you in the USA in terms of for value for money. Weighing in at a hefty £186 for a single and £230 for a double for the night- with a 3pm check-in it was ... Lovely entrance and delicious breakfast selection, however the rooms let them down and had a terrible nights sleep in the small creaky bed that was in dire need of replacing. TV was old with terrible picture, wifi was too slow to use, bedside lamp didn't work, power sockets were faulty meaning hairdryer and chargers kept cutting out and various bulbs weren't working which made getting ready in the semi-dark tricky! Nice toiletries in the bathroom but the pool was too shallow to swim in and the c... Read more

Built 125 years ago you can see that this was once a majestic hotel. The ornate staircase is lovely (I imagine many wedding pics taken there!) and it is located on the beach, a short walk from the train station, the Laines, the Royal Pavilion, etc. I checked in at 10 pm with my teenage son. I had booked a regular room with 2 beds. At check in I was upgraded to a "family room" which had a king bed, but while we were at dinner, the bed was changed to two twins. The family room had quite a bit... Read more

The conference facilities are up to standard but rooms are either too hot or freezing cold. Lunch was of average quality and the dining area was falling apart - exposed ceiling tiles and wiring! Dinner was of poor quality with collapsed soufflé and inedible lamb and a mass produced bog standard dessert. The bar staff were lovely in the evening.

Great location Great restaurant shame that the hotel had no Hhons check in, no room upgrades, no aircon in rooms and windows that only open a couple of inches onto a concrete roof area, late check out wasn't something they understood.

Stayed for one night. Very well located on the sea front within walking distance of shops and places to eat. Room very clean well equipped (no mini bar and bath ) and disappointing view! Bed and breakfast; good selection. Parking was a problem no spaces upon arrival eventually found one but badly located, need to leave the hotel via a back exit and walk down would be creepy if going alone. Overall average disappointed for the hilton brand.

Stayed here because it was on the sea. Didn't eat there because it was too pricey for me. Offered us breakfast for £25.00 each at check in said no and was told it would be £35.00 in the morning. Walked by many restaurants on the way to the hotel and came across many cafes and restaurants that offered breakfast for a quarter of their price. Staff at front desk were helpful. My husband didn't sleep well because he felt the springs in the mattress. Okay place to stay. Nothing spectacular £102.00... Read more

The reviews for this hotel had been a bit mixed and i kind of understood why after our experience there. We chose it for the location and it is very well placed in Brighton and to be fair for the price, it looks fine, albeit a bit dated and worn out in places. The rooms are decent enough but ours had rubbish from previous guest under the sofa, also we had a room for 4 and that was not made up for 4. We asked to be placed on same floor if not next to each other, we were put on 2nd and 4th floor. ... Read more

Treated myself to 3 nights here over my birthday. More than I'd usually pay for my regular trips to Brighton, but I've been ill, & wanted to relax in the pool and spa. Hugely disappointed to find that they were closed for the foreseeable future. Within an hour of check-in I was in my 3rd room... as soon as I walked into the 1st one the noise of exterior A/C units hit me, & I know I wouldn't be able to sleep. Stayed here for a couple of nights over the early May Bank Holiday weekend visiting the Brighton Foodies Festival. The hotel is a large traditional hotel with large rooms, high ceilings etc. Had a suite at the front of the Hotel looking straight out to sea. Facilities were great, if a little tired. Comfortable bed and fabulous bathroom. Only real let-down was there was no pay-per-view television as it was out of service which, when the weather isn't great, is disappointing. There was a wedd... After checking in we went up to our room,634. Upon entering we found it to be extremely warm. We opened the window for some air and were greeted by an incessant hum from the air handling units. Off we for our evening at the theatre and when we returned at 10.30pm the noise was still there. Shutting the window was not an option due to the lack of AC, so we decided to go with it. We stayed for our 5th wedding anniversary. The sauna, steam room and pool were closed due to unexpected collapse of ceiling. We were very disappointed as this was a key criteria for which we selected this hotel. A replacement pool was offered at another hotel. Stayed at this elegant, traditional hotel for 2 nights while in Brighton for a hen weekend. Four 'older' hens stayed in a small double (for use as singles) each and very happy we were too. Staying here again for an annual conference. Convenient for the meetings but each time I come here I am reminded how shabby the rooms and furniture all are. This one charmingly overlooks the ventilation plant and is very warm. If you open the window the building mechanics create a vortex so wind is sucked noisily through the room and out of the door. Stayed at the Metropole for one night. It's a beautiful building but is beginning to look dated. Other hotels offer a far fresher look particularly in bedrooms and I was very surprised that my room had no air conditioning. I was told by reception that it was because it was an old building. Not a valid excuse. I was provided with a small portable fan as my window could not open further than a couple of inches. This was the most unpleasant nights sleep I have had in a long time, boiling hot in a "... Read more

I stayed there on my own for two nights. I had a room somewhat tucked away from the rest of the hotel. The room was OK but the decor and the bathroom a bit tired and could do with a refurbishment. Not really up to the standard I would expect from the Hilton. The entrance was grand and well promising, but the room not that great. So I would give it an average rating.

We had a family room and although I kind of felt it was basic it was big enough for us all. I missed having some drawers to pop stuff in as I hate having clutter round the room. The hotel has a great position on the seafront but is in need of major renovation. The wallpaper was badly marked and falling off the walls in the corridor to my room. The room itself was quite nice but sadly nothing worked properly. The sash window would not stay open unless wedged, and the shower and toilet barely worked. All were reported but nothing was repaired during my stay. There was no wifi signal in the room. A very long way from what one might expect from this chain

Lots of waiting for things! Very poorly organised and customer service is cold and pragmatic. Great building but wouldn't stay again. Check is in at three o'clock and you have to wait for ages at reception to check in, along with all the other people arriving that day. Getting parking ticket validated means queuing at reception again Getting luggage from storage means queuing again ( as all the people checking in at three that arrived earlier and put their luggage in storage too are waiting for ... We stayed at the metropole for one night whilst visiting Brighton on a break. The hotel is very ornate and well positioned right on the seafront. I only mark it as average because in the things that matter to us they were ok , no better. We asked if we could check in early as we arrived at noon but they said to come back at 3, thats fine but then at 3pm there was a massive queue and they also had no hilton honors seperate queue. We went to the bar for a drink while waiting for the queue to clear... Read more

Once again we decided to take a quick break at this great Brighton iconic landmark, and once again we were not disappointed. Excellent room, great sea views; breakfast was as it ought to be - and despite the half-term crowd = the patient, waiting staff retained their cool - and their smiles! We shall return!

I stayed here on Sunday night in a Suite with my husband and 9 year old. I had asked for an early e standby check in but this wasn't possible. We left our luggage with Concierge and was told our luggage would be in our room when we checked in. I even gave them the room number as I had checked in using the Hilton Honours app. We came back to check in at 3.10pm to find a very big queue. There was a group checking in and it seemed to take forever. I waited over 20 minutes to check in. Having alrea... Read more

My friend and I wanted to stay at the Hilton as we were attending an evening event there. I booked for a great rate but then saw the negative reviews on TripAdvisor and was a bit concerned! I needn't have worried as everything was perfect - down to the check in (Lizbeth you are wonderful! Big high five to you!!), the room and the breakfast. I honestly do not have one negative thing to say about this hotel and the service. Yes, the drinks are pricey but that's to be expected when drinking in a ho... Read more

Our room was tired and do not come with an air-con unit and whilst I have no problem with inward facing room, the huge ventilation system down below kept us up for the most of the night as we had to open the window to get some air circulating! The food choice at breakfast was quite good but the staff was very disorganised and very under trained! The Metropole is a stylish Hotel, well situated on the seafront and just a short walk away from Brighton's main attractions and shopping areas. We were greeted by all staff and their is generally a very friendly and professional attitude from the people who work at the hotel. As we checked in I was asked if there was anything I particularly wanted to request about my room (which was a nice touch) I mentioned that I was staying with my wife for our 24th wedding Anniversary the Lizbeth on receptio... Stayed here for a mid-week visit. Car park is behind the hotel and sign posted despite the location not being shared on the website. Park downstairs if you can as the walk to the hotel is easier. We didn't know this and as we both had bad backs, it wasn't pleasant. Busy check in and Hilton Hhonors desk was being used for all guests. I was a little worried after reading the other reviews and when checking in the gentleman at the other desk had a list of complaints and was waiting for the manager. I was pleasantly surprised when we opened the door of 421 and found we had a sea view looking straight out at the old pier. The room was fine nothing special but big enough for two. Having stayed in a number of Hilton hotels I was just a tad disappointed by this one. The position is brilliant, right on the waterfront but the rooms were " lackluster " . We were blessed with sunny weather but the AC was not working in our room. We were given a portable fan to help. We did however have a really good dinner and were looked after by Annabelle who is a great credit to her profession.

Wonderful location - and a fantastic breakfast. Good reception, tidy and clean. But that's where it ends. The rooms are wonderful and large - but something odd has happened. Perhaps with modernisation or refurbishment - things just don't seem to have been thought through. For example - there are power points half way up the wall and in a number of locations - however, nowhere near anything you would want to plug anything in. Where you would want to plug something in (for example the kettle) a ... Read more

Spent one night here with my daughter. We were both given single rooms (although I got an "upgrade" to a room with a double bed). Although the en-suite bathrooms in each room were clean and high spec, the actual rooms (100 & 151) were pokey and dull with a horrible view out of the windows. I therefore think the room rate on each was overpriced (especially given the add on £20 car park charge). On a positive note, the buffet breakfast was excellent as is the hotel's central location.

Lovely building, great bar and that's the best I can say. Poor check in, small dull room, no fridge in the room and had to standby the bed room door to get the Internet. Have stayed in many Hiltons around the world but this must be the worse Hilton I've stayed in.

Check in time was 30 minutes from arrival, common areas in need of decoration, bed was uncomfortable, no drinking water in the room had to go to bar and pay £3 for a small bottle, room very very basic. At last, I have had the excuse to stay at Alfred Waterhouse's brick masterpiece. Despite fears of the destruction when owned by R.B.S. and others in the 1980's and 1990's, there is still sufficient Victorian decor remaining to please. Pause and admire the plaster-work on the walls and ceilings of the stair-case, and the panelled ceiling of the Dining Room. Take in the Entrance Hall when checking-in.
