we have been several times to this hotel .... mainly for the position ... away from some of the bustle... but the tram and bus services are great ..everything else is nearby. the hotel needs a full refurbish ...we nearly always upgrade to a sea view, but the food this time was not good for choice and amount of. Staff needs sprucing up .Reception staff very helpful and pleasant . wont be going again time for a change.

I'd read bad things about this hotel (quite low on TripAdvisor, isn't it?) however, it wasn't ALL bad. The entrance is the epitome of faded Victorian grandeur and parts are quite beautiful but it is in DESPERATE need of updating. The mis-matched sofas & coffee tables along with the dried vomit in the doorway just do not do it justice. This was part of a National holidays deal and I think some people on our trip were allocated better rooms, which isn't fair. We came for my niece's 6th birthda... Read more

This hotel really isn't as bad as a lot of people claim. If you are familiar with the typical Blackpool guest house/Hotel then this is just the same as the rest of them except this one has bucket loads of character. I enjoyed exploring the corridors, the place is a maze, it's huge and somewhat creepy. It reminded of the film The Shining. :-D

I've been to this hotel a number of times but reading the reviews on here you probably wouldn't go again. It has very poor ratings on some reviews and some great ones on others and some in between. I would probably sit in the 'in between' category as I think there is lots to love about this hotel and some things that are ghastly. Lets start with the positives.......As Grand Hotels go this is OK and offers period charm that is so lost with the modern glass and chrome approach you see so often wit... Read more

went here with my husband and my parents for a mon-fri getaway. The first thing that hits you is the damp and musty smell. We got upgraded to an executive family room which was a decent size. There were Windows but they had privacy glass so the room felt very claustrophobic. Room had attempted to be cleaned but bare minimum. The room was very dark due to only one small light working. You get what you pay for ... I think what a lot of these reviews are forgetting is that this is a 2 star hotel!! Yes it looks grand but it's only 2 stars and that's what you get! Just because it's called 'grand' you are not going to get the ritz treatment! You are getting a decent bed for a decent nights sleep in a good sized room. We got a turret room overlooking both the promenade and the sea, yes it could do with a refurb but we weren't there as interior decorators, we wanted a bed to sleep i... Read more

Before I start, I will add I stay in hotels all the time with my business, I've got a lot more work in blackpool lately so having to stay in this location on a regular basis. After checking in and immediately checking out of the Norbreck Castel (owned by the same chain, Britannia) We booked in here. First thing, with the majority of hotels by Brittania, they are all tired, dated, poorly maintained so this really was no different. Good location and an 'ok' room albiet somewhat dirty with us... It is full of character and is continuously being decorated as one would expect for its age, but did not interfere with our stay. 2 Lifts on each floor. Entertainment every night. I was happy enough with my single room considering its relatively low cost, though I did miss a bedside table. The location of the hotel can't be underestimated, nor can the ample and reasonably secure parking at just £3 per day for guests. Only real issue was the ignorant, arrogant smokers crowding round the narrow entranceway, constantly blocking customers trying to get in and out and forcing us to have to walk through walls of their fumes. It was a little bit old looking on the inside but the breakfast was nice. It has a lift which is great as we had prams. Not to far from the city centre. I hate complaining, I'm not good at it and I often put up with things that I ought to challenge. However, mistake made. Lesson learned. NEVER book holiday accommodation without checking Trip Advisor first. I booked this hotel direct from the Brittania Hotels website. It looked clean, bright and very pleasant so I felt the price we paid was pretty good. Thankfully we had opted to pay extra for a sea view and truthfully that was worth every penny of the extra we paid. We looked out over the sea an... Read more

My wife and I have just returned from a long weekend at the Metropole, We had stayed here previously but quite a few years ago. I don??t think it had been decorated since then. Let me say first that the staff we had contact with were very polite and helpful. The restaurant had had a makeover but not much else. We paid £3 per night to park our car in their car park but decided not to move it until we were coming home as it seemed full all the time due to it being open to the public as well as r... Read more

Booked last minute visit. was one of only a few hotels with rooms left in Blackpool. Asking price was £119 per room. When we arrived there was a queue of unhappy people waiting to be seen and even less happy people sat around waiting for the duty manager. We overheard people stating that their rooms were terrible so when we eventually got to the front of the queue we asked to see our room first before paying. Staff looked worn out but to be fair they were really pleasant. Its just the hotel wa... Read more

It's been a good few years since I last stayed at the Metropole and it was in need of attention back then but it was really sad to see such a beautiful hotel being allowed to go to ruin by Britannia Hotels. Our room (213, which is a 'sea view' room and to work out exactly what kind of view you'd have, is the room underneath the 'T' of 'Metropole' as you're looking at the main entrance) had a great view looking down towards the tower and over the sea. The room was clean and quite spacious, the s... Read more

To say a disappointment is an understatement, outdated with the room being unclean (hairs all over the bathroom!) , no towels in the room and needed a clean sheet and the sheet was left on the bed to change ourselves! the evening meal was atrocious but on the up side breakfast was edible, reception staff friendly but not the rest unfortunately - really needs an overhaul - disappointed in national holidays choosing this hotel for our break!

5 years running as I usually use for the festival at the winter gardens. Each year it has gone down. My room is small, scruffy, old and antiquated. The curtains don't cover the windows as they are broken at one side making it difficult to sleep when it becomes light early morning. The bath was dirty and when I was cleaning it the curtain rail fell down. The taps twists unable to work right. No towels in the room first day. Needles to say so disappointed will not be staying there again. The price... Read more

Stayed here from 1st of August with national holidays. The hotel is in a great location right on the seafront...that is the only good thing about the hotel. We entered our room and instantly noticed the frosted windows I wondered what they were hiding...hubby looked out said you really don't want to know...They were covered in bird poo too. Looked out and what a sight...dead birds and lots if piping. The room was filthy I don't think it has seen a hoover for months you could of knit a cardigan o... Read more

Having booked a night away in July for my Girlfriend all went swimmingly well booking the hotel over the phone for the Blackpool Airshow 2016 Little did I know what I had booked or where I opted to stay at. So after an adventurous time of parking the car,we got the bags out the car to be confronted by a tramp picking up "fag nubs" & drinking left over lager. Upon checking in we were introduced to Blackpools answer to Sybil fawlty who had kindly cancelled the room, after some time we were given a... Read more

Nice sunny day so watched the Blackpool airshow from the balcony. Ideal position on the promenade to just relax and enjoy a drink. At £2 a pint of Lager must be one of the best value in Blackpool. Hotel could do with an upgrade but still has some of the old charm.

The hotel is aged and could do with a serious clean and upgrade. Britannia Hotels big-wigs could do with getting their hands in their wallets and spending some money here on hiring more staff and upgrading the place. On the plus side, we had a good sized room with clean bedding etc, and our room lady was a lovely girl. Room 237. Karen in the breakfast room was great, and she looked after us every morning. On checking in the lady on reception was nice and friendly too. My hubby left his key card ... Read more

I stay at the Metropole virtually annually and always have a great time, so I really do not know what all the moaning from others on here is all about. If you go for the 7 night entertainment package you get b&b PLUS dinner AND entertainment for not much more than £40 a night. You can eat yourself to a standstill at breakfast and dinner; the restaurant staff are lovely. It is a bit of a crumbly old hotel in certain respects but to me the air of faded grandeur just adds to the charm of the estab... Read more

We booked here again for the Rebellion Festival as we came last year and found it to be ok. Last year we had a nice bedroom looking to the side of the hotel. This year things didn't get off to a good start. Firstly the car park was full. One of those things I know. We found a car park just round the corner, which was actually only £13 for 24 hours, whereas the hotel car park is £16. Maybe I'm old fashioned but surely the car park of an hotel should be free or indeed a decent price for hote... Read more

Stayed here with my husband for 4 nights for the music festival at the winter gardens. We were on the lower ground floor. As the majority of rewiews say on here it was absolutely filthy!! Grubby sticky carpet ,scruffy windows , mouldy everywhere, disgraceful non cleaning of the room and even the tea tray. There are simply no standards here it was the worst hotel ive ever stayed at . We had to ask on the 3rd day for a change of towels.Don't know what was going on with the wardrobe in our room but ... Read more

We stayed here as we wanted to go to the Blackpool Tower and wanted a hotel within walking distance as my husband had had a medical procedure - if you don't expect much other than a tired hotel and quite a few rude guests then you won't be disappointed. We booked a room with a sea view and I understand the issues with keeping windows clean on a seaside hotel but there glass was so dirty it was opaque. At check in there was no information about breakfast even though we had booked with breakfast ... Read more

I stayed here to break the journey on my home after a holiday to Germany and I thought since I had stayed in a hostel on the way out I would treat myself to a bit of luxury after a long journey. I stayed in a single room that was in no way luxurious and did not in any way live up to the grand exterior of the place. It could have been any run down B&B anywhere, especially since the window was frosted so I couldn't see out of it, making me feel hemmed in and like the whole room was a bathroom. The... Read more

Although I have stopped at this hotel numerous times , it is very basic and in need of TLC . The main reasons for using hotel is due to its close proximity to north shore with parking . It suits us as a family but don't expect anything grand ! In the summer it has an outside area with a bar and a small conservatory which is nice sitting in at night.

We did not stay at this tired looking hotel but we used their restaurant on Saturday evening for dinner . ...Big mistake. Although it was only £12.50 per head for three courses we still felt we had been robbed! The dining room was laid out with tables in regimented rows with no space to get up and down to the self service buffet. It really looked like an old peoples home with majority of guests being in 65-80 age group. The food was catered to this age group with mushy cottage pie, boiled fis... Read more
