we have been several times to this hotel .... mainly for the position ... away from some of the bustle... but the tram and bus services are great ..everything else is nearby. the hotel needs a full refurbish ...we nearly always upgrade to a sea view, but the food this time was not good for choice and amount of. Staff needs sprucing up .Reception staff very helpful and pleasant . wont be going again time for a change.

I'd read bad things about this hotel (quite low on TripAdvisor, isn't it?) however, it wasn't ALL bad. The entrance is the epitome of faded Victorian grandeur and parts are quite beautiful but it is in DESPERATE need of updating. The mis-matched sofas & coffee tables along with the dried vomit in the doorway just do not do it justice. This was part of a National holidays deal and I think some people on our trip were allocated better rooms, which isn't fair. We came for my niece's 6th birthda... Read more

This hotel really isn't as bad as a lot of people claim. If you are familiar with the typical Blackpool guest house/Hotel then this is just the same as the rest of them except this one has bucket loads of character. I enjoyed exploring the corridors, the place is a maze, it's huge and somewhat creepy. It reminded of the film The Shining. :-D

I've been to this hotel a number of times but reading the reviews on here you probably wouldn't go again. It has very poor ratings on some reviews and some great ones on others and some in between. I would probably sit in the 'in between' category as I think there is lots to love about this hotel and some things that are ghastly. Lets start with the positives.......As Grand Hotels go this is OK and offers period charm that is so lost with the modern glass and chrome approach you see so often wit... Read more

went here with my husband and my parents for a mon-fri getaway. The first thing that hits you is the damp and musty smell. We got upgraded to an executive family room which was a decent size. There were Windows but they had privacy glass so the room felt very claustrophobic. Room had attempted to be cleaned but bare minimum. The room was very dark due to only one small light working. You get what you pay for ... I think what a lot of these reviews are forgetting is that this is a 2 star hotel!! Yes it looks grand but it's only 2 stars and that's what you get! Just because it's called 'grand' you are not going to get the ritz treatment! You are getting a decent bed for a decent nights sleep in a good sized room. We got a turret room overlooking both the promenade and the sea, yes it could do with a refurb but we weren't there as interior decorators, we wanted a bed to sleep i... Read more

Before I start, I will add I stay in hotels all the time with my business, I've got a lot more work in blackpool lately so having to stay in this location on a regular basis. After checking in and immediately checking out of the Norbreck Castel (owned by the same chain, Britannia) We booked in here. First thing, with the majority of hotels by Brittania, they are all tired, dated, poorly maintained so this really was no different. Good location and an 'ok' room albiet somewhat dirty with us... It is full of character and is continuously being decorated as one would expect for its age, but did not interfere with our stay. 2 Lifts on each floor. Entertainment every night. I was happy enough with my single room considering its relatively low cost, though I did miss a bedside table. The location of the hotel can't be underestimated, nor can the ample and reasonably secure parking at just £3 per day for guests. Only real issue was the ignorant, arrogant smokers crowding round the narrow entranceway, constantly blocking customers trying to get in and out and forcing us to have to walk through walls of their fumes. I hate complaining, I'm not good at it and I often put up with things that I ought to challenge. However, mistake made. Lesson learned. NEVER book holiday accommodation without checking Trip Advisor first. I booked this hotel direct from the Brittania Hotels website. It looked clean, bright and very pleasant so I felt the price we paid was pretty good. Thankfully we had opted to pay extra for a sea view and truthfully that was worth every penny of the extra we paid. We looked out over the sea an... Read more

My wife and I have just returned from a long weekend at the Metropole, We had stayed here previously but quite a few years ago. I don??t think it had been decorated since then. Let me say first that the staff we had contact with were very polite and helpful. The restaurant had had a makeover but not much else. We paid £3 per night to park our car in their car park but decided not to move it until we were coming home as it seemed full all the time due to it being open to the public as well as r... Read more

Booked last minute visit. was one of only a few hotels with rooms left in Blackpool. Asking price was £119 per room. When we arrived there was a queue of unhappy people waiting to be seen and even less happy people sat around waiting for the duty manager. We overheard people stating that their rooms were terrible so when we eventually got to the front of the queue we asked to see our room first before paying. Staff looked worn out but to be fair they were really pleasant. Its just the hotel wa... Read more

It's been a good few years since I last stayed at the Metropole and it was in need of attention back then but it was really sad to see such a beautiful hotel being allowed to go to ruin by Britannia Hotels. Our room (213, which is a 'sea view' room and to work out exactly what kind of view you'd have, is the room underneath the 'T' of 'Metropole' as you're looking at the main entrance) had a great view looking down towards the tower and over the sea. To say a disappointment is an understatement, outdated with the room being unclean (hairs all over the bathroom!) , no towels in the room and needed a clean sheet and the sheet was left on the bed to change ourselves! the evening meal was atrocious but on the up side breakfast was edible, reception staff friendly but not the rest unfortunately - really needs an overhaul - disappointed in national holidays choosing this hotel for our break!

5 years running as I usually use for the festival at the winter gardens. Each year it has gone down. My room is small, scruffy, old and antiquated. The curtains don't cover the windows as they are broken at one side making it difficult to sleep when it becomes light early morning. The bath was dirty and when I was cleaning it the curtain rail fell down. The taps twists unable to work right. No towels in the room first day. Nice sunny day so watched the Blackpool airshow from the balcony. Ideal position on the promenade to just relax and enjoy a drink. At £2 a pint of Lager must be one of the best value in Blackpool. Hotel could do with an upgrade but still has some of the old charm.

The hotel is aged and could do with a serious clean and upgrade. Britannia Hotels big-wigs could do with getting their hands in their wallets and spending some money here on hiring more staff and upgrading the place. On the plus side, we had a good sized room with clean bedding etc, and our room lady was a lovely girl. Room 237. Karen in the breakfast room was great, and she looked after us every morning. I stay at the Metropole virtually annually and always have a great time, so I really do not know what all the moaning from others on here is all about. If you go for the 7 night entertainment package you get b&b PLUS dinner AND entertainment for not much more than £40 a night. Also had to pay for parking not told about this WiFi only available on ground floor if you are lucky rooms small carpets filthy all the way through the hotel food was unedible eggs swimming in grease everything else cold. Wall paper coming off by radiator bathroom on first look was clean then behind door was dust and hairs. So would not advise visiting as for approx £60 a night was in our opinion was way too expensive.

Myself and my grandma stayed here for one night as she'd been before back in its heyday. The Hotel itself is in desperate need of a renovation. It's such a beautiful building but it has been badly maintained. The widows were dirty throughout, cobwebs and peeling paint everywhere. Dirty, stained carpets from reception to our room. Room was very basic and maids need a lesson in cleaning. They are what me and my grandma would call 'surface' cleaners a very thick layer of dust on skirting boards and... Read more

I booked this last minute for a 1 night visit to see the illuminations. It was an amazing price of £67 per twin room for 2 people for bed breakfast and evening meal, an offer. We travelled by train and this hotel is only 10 mins walk away. Right on the sea front, 5 mins walk from the Tower and right next to a tram stop and the North Pier. Our twin room had a sea view even though we had not asked for one, nor paid extra. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, serv... Read more

In its heyday this hotel must have been really grand, unfortunately it has seen better days, paint flaking off the walls, paper peeling, and water stains on the bedroom ceiling, the food was not very good, the only thing you could say about it was it was hot, there was a bingo which started at 7.45 and then the entertainment started at 8.15 and finished at 9.00 then there was music put on and the dj cleared off. After reading the reviews I actually rang hotel to chat to receptionists. They explained it was an old hotel, hence cracks in ceilings, needed painting etc. On arrival room had not been cleaned properly, bathroom a disgrace. We got a last minute cheap break for a 2 night midweek stay. No meals, room only. The price was only £64 so we were not really expecting much. Much to our surprise we were given a really nice spacious room with a sea view. The room was bright and pleasant although the cobwebs on the ceiling and wall were a bit off putting. The carpet had obviously missed the attention of a hoover also. Despite that, we enjoyed our brief stay and would go back. We did not eat in the hotel as we thought it seemed... Read more

Asked for another room, slightly better but the windows didn't close and was next to the nightclubs. We decided to pay £20 and upgrade to a Seaview room which again was slightly better. Britannia Hotels make no excuse for what they do & how they do it. Its old ladies such as the Metropole or the Norbreck Castle Hotel left to crumble & in the interim sell rooms at a cheap fee. All of this I CAN accept - their policy seems clear & the fees reflect that but simple things like a cleaner putting some bleach & a loo brush down the toilet to clean stains would be a nice start. Possibly not giving me a room where the corniche is crumbling (see pic) would have been nice!
