a central hotel, it was, unfortunately it is a very dated hotel. inside the main reception area was quite nice, however venture deeper in, and you start to see the scruffy doors to the lifts, the darkness of the corridors, the general tiredness of it all. the ironing board was basically a mesh of metal with the thinnest cover I have ever seen! I managed to iron some of the diamond shapes of the mesh into my shirt! - this was the second shirt after the first iron stained one - which to thei... Read more

Stayed here whilst on business. Lots of building work, so difficult to drive to and not very good views! Underground parking is £16 so quite expensive and you need to check in before you can park which is a bit of a pain after a long drive. The hotel itself is very nice, check in okay. The rooms are large and of good quality, with bathrobes and little treats that make your stay just a little bit "special"! The bed was comfortable bed linen was lovely. If you're attending the NEC you can stay by the airport or in Brimingham City center. The latter offers a more enjoyable experience. Smart property - rooms immaculate and very comfortable (although some rather odd scuff marks on the divan base?) Some building noise but it finished at 5pm ish and didn't start again until breakfast time. Of which . . . the service in the dining room was really good. We are not meat eaters. To make sure my cooked breakfast was complete the cook on duty on the hot buffet counter insisted on going back into the kitchen to cook two veggie sausages. I've been staying here most weeks for the last year or so: definitely my favourite in Birmingham. Staff are invariably friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere seems to spread to guests: we actually speak to each other. Décor may be a little dated (1990's style), but is well maintained and spotless. Rooms are comfortable and double beds are king size. Bathrooms large with good quality toiletries. I love staying at the Crowne Plaza when I come to Birmingham for work. The rooms are big enough to put things down without tripping over things, there is tea & coffee making facilities, shower gel, shampoo (no toothpaste though) towels and an iron and ironing board (might be a hair dryer but I can't remember) One of the plug sockets has a nifty usb port in it which is handy. Arrive by car, and you'll find the car park offered by the hotel to be rather dilapidated, pricey and inconvenient. The lobby is nice and inviting. The rooms are looking dark and tired. Breakfast is good, with variety. Staff at check-in desks seem disinterested. Centre in walking distance. Short of it: mixed bag.

Stayed three night for conference at ICC. Very conveniently situated for ICC and city centre. Both five mins on foot. The hotel doesn't really have anything remarkable that would make it stand out but it does everything it needs to pretty well. Rooms are ok. Bathroom ok. Bed ok. TV ok. Get the drift??? Stayed for a conference, one of the lifts was out of action, with the number of delegates it was faster to walk up 8 flights of stairs. Food service was poor, at the dinner many delegates left for the football in the local pub. Even though numbers were then lower, they ran out of potatoes for our table and several of us did without. Not acceptable at this standard and the staff were dismissive and the supervisor made an exit before we could complain. Big fail. If you stay, take out a mortgage fo... Read more

I stay here regularly while in Birmingham. Convenient for the centre and reasonably priced. The rooms (especially the upgraded ones) are modern and spacious. The hotel bar & lobby are equally pleasant. The issues relate to car parking (or the apparent lack). I'm guessing there is ongoing construction work but it's all rather confused. The lady on reception was helpful, the room was spacious and the decor was lovely. It was reasonably priced too. We didn't make it to breakfast but that was our own fault, the late breakfast and 12 checkout at weekends is also good. The location is brilliant for Broad Street, Brindley Place and The Mailbox. Overall, the hotel is great but there are a few simple things that could make it become excellent. The staff were welcoming and very attentive. First impressions of the lobby are great and spotlessly clean. The room I had was huge, but very dark. Their was dressing gowns, tea/coffee/biscuits supplied and even some ear plugs and sleeping aids. Everything I love about a hotel. I stayed on the sixth floor. It is very tired and shabby. paint finishes badly chipped...funiture in the rooms very worn. needs a refurbishment urgently...! The fact that the corridors are painted dark brown with brown carpets with lumps knock out of the paint work does not reassure you that the hotel is clean and well maintained. The Staff were really nice and helpful. Shame about the building.

While the location is fine there is heavy construction work going on at the backside of the hotel which would make me think twice before staying here. I do have certain expectations when staying at a Crowne Plaza Hotel and I found a make-up stain in a so called fresh towel in my bathroom as well as a half empty bottle of wine in my fridge. This gave me doubts about the entire housekeeping service of my room. Unforgettable experience in a negative way.

Stayed here with 5 friends for an event at the nec for 2 nights. Check in was easy, all staff very helpful and friendly. Rooms were excellent, loved having 2 double beds in room as opposed to 1 bed and a sofa bed. Also had 2 chairs in room when you usually only get 1. The beds were very comfy but the rooms did get a little warm in the night if you turned the air con off. The shower was excellent, powerful and very hot each time it was used. Good range of toiletries if needed in the bathrooms als... Read more

Crown Plaza was a great base for a weekend break - 4 couples! We booked club rooms - and were really impressed with the club lounge. Parking was below the hotel and reasonable value for the city centre. The staff were excellent. We went out both nights for evening meals, and the location of the hotel was perfect for this, for access to the Christmas Market, and only 5 mins from John Lewis etc. Will use this again.

Stayed here for a night last Saturday whilst visiting the Christmas Market. We checked in at about 3.30 to be told one of the two rooms we had booked wasn't ready (the hotel had been full the night before and people were late checking out, I was told). Although this wasn't the perfect start, it was dealt with admirably. The rooms we had booked needed to be close together and the receptionist spent some while moving things around until she managed to get what we needed. She also gave us some ... Read more

Hotel is centrally located and great for Christmas Market. Rooms clean, large and well furnished. Bathroom a good size and toiletries provided, shower temperature control not good and kept varying whilst showering!! Had drinks in bar, considering Town Centre Hotel prices would have expected some complimentary nibbles to be provided. Breakfast the next day was excellent, service throughout stay was great. Would stay again.

Another great visit to this lovely hotel. Situated near The Mailbox and Grand Central station. Nice big rooms, very clean, a huge bed and all the amenities including fluffy bathrobes. They also provide complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee, biscuits and mints. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Very good buffet breakfast together with some a la carte choices such as poached eggs and porridge. I stay here quite regularly and find this hotel consistently a good standard.

We stay at this hotel quite frequently when attending concerts in Birmingham and usually things are ok I have to say that we may be looking at other hotels for future stays. This hotel rooms are in desperate need of a major refurbishment Photos are of the bed base in a Club Room and the damp on the wall in the room directly where the shower is in the adjoining bathroom I know there is a lot of building work taking place in the vicinity of the hotel but not even an email to advise guests that... We stayed at the Crowne Plaza, in Birmingham City Centre whilst attending a Rod Stewart concert at the Barclaycard Arena. We chose this hotel as it was midway between New Street Station and the arena. We were welcomed warmly at reception and throughout our stay we had great service from all of the staff. Breakfast had a great selection of hot and cold food. We had lunch on arrival which was lovely. Would recommend this hotel for a short stay in Birmingham.
