Stayed there for 5 nights, good reception 24/24 and in a good neighborhood. Only few meters from all the main sights. Quite recommend it. Good rooms, all amenities. Nice room upstairs where to sit or play chess :-)

The Ayasofya Hotel in Sultanahmet ticks all the right boxes: - Great rooms - Fabulous location - Good food - Adequately priced But what seals the deal is the warm hospitality extended by Greg and team. They make your stay an absolute delight by walking the extra mile(s). From answering all your queries about Istanbul/Turkey, suggesting unique sights, curating your experience, besides enabling a smooth time by taking care of all logistical/operational help. We loved staying at Ayasofya! From the moment of our arrival this was a great experience. The arrival transfer worked seamlessly. Check in staff (especially Mehmet) were friendly and helpful. Greg and Gaye were welcoming, informative, and clearly love their adoptive country, which allayed some of our fears about being in Istanbul at this time. Within minutes of our arrival, Greg was on hand to welcome and orientate us. He obviously loves Istanbul and communicates this warmly. He made numerous s... Read more

This hotel is my home away from home when I travel to Istanbul. Gaye and her staff are wonderful, warm and full of cheer. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Istanbul is at your doorstep. Love staying here.

We had 3 wonderful days in Istanbul staying at the Ayasofya Hotel. Can highly recommend the Ayasofya - it's homely feel, yummy breakfasts and welcoming staff ensured a magical experience in this wonderful city. It is ideally located in Sultanahmet - the old town, easy walking distance to all attractions and great restaurants. The Australian owner Gaye is an incredible source of information and always available to provide advice on local sights and things to do. A special mention to Greg who is a... Read more

Stayed in June 2016 and felt we had the city almost to ourselves as it seems the terrorists are winning the scare campaign. Great for us in terms of queues etc but the local scene is doing it tough. Gaye, Greg and the staff at Ayasofya are fantastic and so helpful. The hotel is small, a home away from home , great value for money and a real Istanbul experience and minutes from everywhere in the old city part of Sultanahmet . Would recommend to anybody . What a gem of a hotel. Just a short walk away from all the main attractions. Gaye Greg and staff were such wonderful hosts. They went out of their way to help as I was travelling with my elderly brother inlaw. One of the staff used his own car to take him on a trip at no extra expense.Breakfast was soo nice Gaye had even baked her own lemon cake (yummy)also the beer was delivered to the rooftop.Rooms just soo clean also the en suit clean and plenty of fresh towels. The hotel itself is very we... Read more

A beautiful and perfectly situated hotel in a gorgeous set of old Ottoman houses, just five minutes away from Sultanahmet Square and the greatest attractions of old Constantinople. Very reasonably priced, gorgeous views, clean and cool rooms even in the summer, and a wonderful staff who actively looked for ways to make our trip better, from suggesting tours to helping print boarding passes.

Hotel is positioned very well, it has nice little rooms with TV, breakfast is fresh and nice hotel managers are great and the staff too. Hotel is about 5 minutes from Sultan Ahmet Mosque(Blue Mosque) Bathrooms are their low point, cuz it does not have any separation and everything gets wet, also the steam place is big and connected with other rooms and this is a privacy problem because the other guest can hear you and if they go near the steam place can see you

well what can I say this was one of the best trips I've personally ever experienced. everything from the hotel to the overall history of Istanbul was amazing there was not one moment which i did not enjoy. overall the hotel was beautiful it offered us a lot of space and time together. Being a big family and obviously not liking the idea of having separate rooms we had booked two big family rooms so we could go half n half n be together in some sense, the rooms were enormous and so beautiful you... This is a fabulous small historic hotel in the heart of old Istanbul -- you can walk to most of the major attractions (Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Topkapi palace). The real treasure of this hotel, however, is the staff: they help you find your way, suggest places and outings of interest, and do everything to make you comfortable and happy. The rooms are tastefully decorated & comfortable, with an ample breakfast buffet included in the very economical room price. Highly recom... Read more

Istanbul was a fantastic experience, full of life, history and excitement. Gaye and Greg at the Ayosofya were both warm, easy going and extremely helpful with tips on places of interest and tours around Istanbul. They also helped with tours as we continued our trip around Turkey. Their staff could not be more pleasant. The neighbourhood of their hotel is an eye opener. Highly recommended.

Well located near the best Istanbul's Sultanahmet district has to offer-- Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome,Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar. The room was large and comfortable, the breakfast buffet very nice but best of all was that the staff was wonderful beginning with transfer from the airport -- a welcome service after a long flight. Helpful with suggestions for tours, where to eat, the best authentic Turkish bath, etc. Gaye, Greg and the team are wonderful hosts.

Why 3 Greats - easy, this was our third stay in 4 years. We were picked up at the airport, courtesy of the hotel and arrived late afternoon. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Gaye and Greg as if we were good neighbors who had just returned home. The apple tea was truly appreciated after our long 4 week trip through Europe. With the current economic and political situation in mind we had no problems and felt very safe as we have felt on our previous visits to Istanbul. The hotel has al... Read more

Terrible experience trying to rectify a situation. Was advised by Craig to call the agency I booked through to fix the issue and was charged before even getting the chance to do so which was terribly rude and inconsiderate, anything to make a quick dollar it appears! Thanks Craig!

This is a great hotel situated in the perfect position for all excursions into Istanbul's Old City- everything is walking distance (although it is also tucked away from the noise!) The city has such a great transport system you can get anywhere from anywhere- so if you want to experience the roots of Istanbul look no further for a hotel. We arrived very early at the airport and even though check-in was much later in the day, the friendly staff let us into our room! Gaye is simple amazing- sh... Read more

We stayed at Ayasofya Hotel very recently and it was a very good base amidst all the other excitement and activity of Istanbul and Turkey. It is a cozyl 21 room boutique hotel, very nicely located a short walk from the Hippodrome area within historic Sultanahmet and close to the tramway public transport. Aussie hosts Gaye, Greg and the crew there create a 'you-are-welcome' and 'home-away-from-home' type of atmosphere .. for us, helping with both local and regional travel tips and arrangements. ... What a wonderful place. The hotel is an historic Ottoman home so the experience is truly authentic while the staff welcome you like it's their own home. Gaye and Greg (both Australians) are the perfect hosts, always there and welcoming, with an apple tea and travel tip or hint to set you on the right path for great days of sightseeing. The breakfast buffet is a great start to the day and drinks on the rooftop balcony is a great way to end the day. In between breakfast and after dinner drinks you... Read more

While we didn't see Gaye much, we spoke with Greg every morning at breakfast and he was very helpful and informative about things to do in the city. The room was quite nice for the price and had a very cool Ottoman vibe. Also the hotel was very conveniently located, within walking distance of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Breakfast wasn't amazing but other than that it was a very pleasant experience.

A truly enchanting place to stay in Sultanahmet, the Ayasofya is within easy walking distance of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, and the tram. Gaye and Greg are wonderful, friendly hosts and very knowledgeable about restaurants, shops, and other places to visit in Istanbul. I stayed at the Ayasofya Hotel for the second time in July. It was great to stay in such a comfortable place - the beds and even the pillows were wonderful. The room was super clean and the air conditioning worked perfectly. We could walk everywhere and easily hop on the tram. The hotel is very close to the old district's main sights.
