Learn the history of this unique San Francisco landmark.
Attractions Details Not only is the San Francisco Cable Car Museum a museum, it is the actual working powerhouse for the three operating cable car lines. Once slated for removal in the 1940's, the iconic cable cars were saved by the citizens of San Francisco, and are now one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. Museum visitors can go underneath the cables and track to get an up-close view of how the intricate cable system works. There is a gift shop that sells real pieces of used cable and other authentic souvenirs. Free admission.
