Wow! One hot afternoon during our trip in Chiang Mai we were looking for some nice cool place to escape from the heat. 137 Pillar House was the pick. The first step was already impressive. The concierge was genuinely welcoming. We told him that we were there only for quick lunch. He walked us all the way to the dining area explaining about the place and all the facilities. We didn't expect lunch to be anything delicious as usually hotels like this (whose target customers are foreign touri... Read more

137 Pillars House made our Thai vacation, for far too many reason to list. I'll try to sum it up in short lists: -ROOMS: stunning large rooms with extravagantly Thai decor. Our own private sala (balcony) off the room, outdoor shower, and impressive attention to detail. We had everything we needed and more. It seemed there were about 30-40 on the entire property, which made our experience feel secluded and private. -PROPERTY: It's gorgeous...from the Ivy draping wall alongside the pool, to the 1... Not sure words can express what an amazing experience the 137 Pillars House was for my family. We just came from the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok which by all measures was fantastic. But the 137 Pillars House kicked it up one more notch by offering 5 Star accommodations with personal service from the front staff to the concierge (Thank you Toto š???). Having Toto's phone number made booking reservations, taxis and pretty much everything else very easy. The rooms are spacious with a large patio, ... Read more

One of the best hotel stays I've ever experienced, and I've traveled all over the world. The room was gorgeous, the service was impeccable. They assign you a butler when you arrive. They helped me book an elephant tour and cooking class on my arrival - everything was taken care of within minutes. I found a local laundry service, and they coordinated the pick up and delivery for me - I left my bag at the desk and when I got home that night it was in my room. I love the colonial feeling, the drawers at reception going all the way to the ceiling and all the small details that you can find when walking around the resort. Service was also great, you can see that they are not used to have kids around the resort but the staff went above and beyond to cater our needs.

We didn't get a butler when our friend did during the same trip. My other friend got a room next to a bar so she wasn't able to sleep well the first night. They should just close the room. I tried counting the pillars. Once when I arrived and once before I left. Both attempts didn't come up to 137. Not sure where the name of the hotel came from. Damn nice establishment. Having experienced hostels, B&B, and cheap serviced apartments in Chiang Mai, this 5star hotel was a big major change in view and luxury standards. Will be back when I have enough baht.

If you are looking for a quiet hotel to switch off then this is a great hotel, it never felt like there was more than 10 people in the whole hotel. The pool is beautiful and service is 100% quality. Only downside was that there were a lot of mosquitos and we were bitten loads. They did provide the incense to keep them away but unfortunately it didn't work. It would be great if the bedrooms provided 'mosquito nets.' Other than that the hotel is beautiful!

The staff didn't try push us to use the hotel services and we really appreciated that. In fact the staff and manager An... Read more

A surprising find! An exquisite heritage hotel in a quiet street near the river just out of old Chiang Mai. We were invited to a corporate hospitality dinner at 137 Pillar House. The grounds looked dreamily inviting with suitable ambient lighting and romantic canopied day beds to lounge in. The food at the Thai (?) restaurant was possibly the best we had in Chang Mai (and we were treated to some of the best restaurants in town!) - modern fusion cooking with contemporary French techniques inspir... An oasis a few yards from the Ping River - fabulous hotel in a quiet back-street setting. The staff were among the most helpful and friendly we have met in 35 years of international travel - the personal butler service is a really nice touch, keeping in contact by SMS or messenger to help and advise. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped and the internet was reliable and surprisingly fast. Save to say we made the right choice. We went to the Dhara Devi one day for luck to see what we had missed out on- first point of note is that its m... Read more

It was my first travel to Chiang Mai, me and my friend had a memorable trip in this beautiful city. And staying in 137 pillars hotel was the best choice we had made for this trip. Pillars house located along another side of ping river, close to night bazaar with nice riverside restaurants and vintage shops nearby, is easily accessible. Feeling relaxed right from we stepping in as the whole structure is surrounded by greenery. A lovely swimming pool with a living green wall is a must-go, spa hou... Read more

My only regret is that 137 Pillars House was the first stop on our multi-city trip and not our last. From the moment we arrived, everyone at the hotel was there to eagerly meet our every need. After we were checked in and settled in our room, our butler Toto arrived to make sure everything was to our liking and to ask if we'd like the scent in the room adjusted (toiletries, etc). We stayed there for four nights and wished we could stay longer. It's located just outside the old city and takes about 10 minutes to get into town. Every morning we wake up to birds chirping and it's quiet and tranquil. The decor and furnishing are beautiful and unmistakably Thai. The large vanity room and outdoor shower are nice features. Balcony is very spacious and a perfect place to enjoy a cup of tea. Breakfast has a wide variety. Staff at the hotel is well trained and extremely friendly a... Read more

I recommend this hotel unreservedly. One of the two or three best places we've ever stayed. Service was refined but unfussy. Room was elegant but not glitzy. The location is in the thick of it but not chaotic. This is the one.

Talk about finding peace in the middle of a bustling city! 137 Pillars House is that place, with old growth Banyan trees along the old elephant trail, and a fabulous swimming pool that beckons, in the midst of hot days. The butler was an unexpected pleasure tho not one I am used to! But Pui and I texted many details, including where to get a hairbrush! The century old teak house at the hotel's center harkens back to a bygone era, which is the heart of the hotel. Offering both Thai and western fo... Read more

Without a doubt 137 was the single best experience in all of Chiang Mai! I research hotels extensively and was very excited for our arrival, but can only say that our stay was well above and beyond our expectations. Greeted at the airport and whisked away to the hotel we were met with the most friendly of staff and the most beautiful check in. The hotel is unbelievably gorgeous with manicured grounds and gardens. You are wonderfully transported back to the Old East Borneo Trading company, a plac... Read more

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the 137 Pillars House for part of our honeymoon. The hotel is like a small oasis of luxury in Chiang Mai. The service was impeccable, the room was beautiful, and the location was convenient to everything. From the moment we arrived, the staff was so welcoming and helpful at every turn. The pool was simply magical and we loved eating breakfast in the historical house. Looking forward to returning!

Dear Anne, My wife and I just had the most amazing stay at Pillar house. I want to congratulate you and your staff, especially Toto for creating an atmosphere of welcome, hospitality and excellence. I have to give a special salute to Toto who went and got my camera bag, that I left in the car at midnight. He is sincere, genuine, and caring. This hotel has all of the makings for a jewel amidst the hustle bustle of Chiang Mai with lovely rooms, kind staff and beautiful landscape but many aspects just fall short of five stars. Constant construction at the property create a very noisy environment - all day long, starting as early as 6am and going on well into the late hours of the evening. 137 Pillars House is a beautiful, elegant hotel just outside the walls of central Chiang Mai. We stayed 5 nights in the East Borneo suite and could not have been more pleased. Our personal butler Pui took care of everything we asked for. The front desk staff could not have been more kind and responsive to our requests. The pool is an oasis of greenery and has to be seen to truly take in the magical serenity. On our next stay in Chiang Mai we definitely plan to return.

We had an amazing stay 137 Pillars House. Our personal concierge, Pui, was beyond excellent. Everything she booked for us was perfect, and she always made sure they knew we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Even for restaurants we booked on our own, when she ordered a taxi to take us to the restaurant she would call ahead and tell them once she found out where we were going. Possibly my favourite hotel. This is such a delightful, relaxing place to stay with a unique feel to it. It was built in 1889 to house the manager of the British East Borneo Company & is named after the number of pillars originally in the house (it has a little museum under the main central building explaining its history).
