Itâ??s been very long time I was thinking to visit Thailand. I and my friends were planning from Long time but didnâ??t get chance. Itâ??s been very long time I was thinking to visit Thailand. I and my friends were planning from Long time but didnâ??t get chance. When I was planning for my Honeymoon trip, the first place come to mind is Thailand. I researched a lot of the place, various websites, hotels etc. At last I have decided to go with a Package. I had received 2 quotations from different major online websites like Yatra & Makemytrip. After checking reviews and cost, I have decided to go with Yatra (There are 2 reasons for rejecting Makemytrip 1. If I cancel the ticket after booking, then chances of getting money from MMT is a huge task. 2. The hotel they mentioned in the quotation has bad reviews). I have opted for 4 nights and 5 days.
We started our journey from Bangalore. Flight was at 1am and Airline was Thai Airlines. The journey was pretty cool. After 3.5 hours journey we reached Suvarnabhumi Airport (Thai Time 6am). we have opted for â??Visa on Arrivalâ??. We found the emigration counter and there were 500+ people were standing in the queue. We filled the form and stood on the queue. It took almost 2 hoursâ?? time to reach the counter. In the first counter we need to pay 1000 Thai Bhat (2000 Indian rupees) and they will give a receipt with Token number. Then we need to go another counter for the VISA. It took 4 hoursâ?? time for the visa procedure.
â?¢ if you pay another 1000 Bhat (INR 2000), then you can skip the queue and you will get Visa in 30 minutes ( you can minimum 3.5 hours)
â?¢ Carry atleast 5000 Thai Bhat in hand
â?¢ If you need to catch another flight to Phuket, then speak to security. They will help you to skip the Queue and will get visa faster.
Finally we got visa. My wife was so tired, we just slept 3.5 hours in flight and we were standing in the queue for last 4 hours. We had instructed to go Gate number 10 (Yatra will give date details, contact person number in email) and we could see a person who standing with our name boards. They asked me to wait for some time in the lobby because they are expecting some more people then only they can leave from airport (This is the disadvantage of â??Packageâ??, You always need to wait for few others to join. If you are going by own, then directly go to main gate, catch a prepaid taxi). Finally all the couples arrived in airport (from Mumbai & Delhi). So now we 6 couples started our journey to Pattaya. While starting from the airport, Yatra guide had provided Thai Sim to all of us. It has currency of 100 Bhat. Bangkok to Pattaya took 2 hours (if itâ??s in India, it could have taken atleast 6 hours!! Thanks to Thailand Roads). Bangkok-Pattaya road is 6 lines and you canâ??t find single traffic violations. After 2 hours journey we reached â??The Seasons Pattayaâ?? Hotel. Must say, it is one of the best Luxury hotel in Pattaya. Very spacious rooms, neat and clean. Our room was at 42nd floor. We fresh-up and came out in the evening, since that day we donâ??t have anything to do in the package
We decided to go to Thailandâ??s Famous walking Street. We took bike taxi (3 were in 1 bike ï??) and drop us in entrance of walking street. Never ever take any small kids / Family (elders) there. Its 6 kms long road, both the side of roads you can see a lot of pubs, dance bar and of course girls. They will do their best to attract you or take you inside the pub. Most of them wore dress just to cover 1% of their body. Some of the places you can see that, girls are nude. While walking many will approach you for â??Live Sex Showâ??. So for avoiding all these only, I have mentioned earlier that, never take kids & family to walking street. You can see street magic, lots of food stalls, variety of ice creams and Live portrait. It was a different experience. After spending few hours there, we came back near to hotel by Tuk-Tuk (its same as Auto Rickshaw. We had food from a restaurant which is near to the hotel (seasons Pattaya) and food was very good. So many varieties of sea foods. If you are vegetarian, then itâ??s difficult to find Veg food over there. When we reached hotel, we have received a message saying,â?? Be ready at 8 amâ??.
We woke up, got ready and had breakfast from hotel. One of the best Breakfasts I ever had. You can choose food - Like Indian, Chinese, continental, Italian, Mexican etc. Sharp 8â??o clock vehicle came to pick us. They took us for â??Parachute flyâ??. Since its not included in the package, we have to pay 500 Bhat for each person. I would recommend each every one of you that, you must try it. Itâ??s an amazing experience. After that, they asked me if anyone interested for scuba diving, they can try it. it cost 2500 Bhat per person (5000 Indian rupee). Since my wife badly wanted to try it, so we decided to go. They will take you to a remote place in boat, ask us to wear a mask (its damn heavy â?? almost 5 to 10 kgs) and jump into the water. Itâ??s one of the worst experiences. I did scuba in Andaman Islands before and now here in Thai, was worst. Never ever try it. Because itâ??s not a Scuba, itâ??s like you walking in sea shores (later I saw they only keeping those fish in that place and also it covered with Net. After scuba, they took us to coral island. You will love this speed boat journey. It took an hour time to reach there.
Coral Island. One of the best islands in Thailand. The water is very clean and upto 2 kms distance you can walk in the water (Deep blue water). I would suggest you to carry a camera, if you visit the island. You can also find a lot of shacks, restaurants and water sports. Itâ??s worth to go there. We visited few more places like Alcazar show (I would rate 4/10 â?? not so great). If you go with package (any tours), they will take you to Germs Jewelry (No Entrance fee). Basically itâ??s a huge jewelry but the best thing is, they will take you inside the Jewelry in a small Train! Even though if you donâ??t buy anything, visit the place. We had lunch from a Indian restaurant. The food was pathetic. Itâ??s better to survive with fruits / Thai food, itâ??s better than having Indian restaurant food in Thailand.
3rd day we came back to Bangkok city and stayed in Hotel Check Inn Regency Park. itâ??s not a Star hotel. But it is pretty decent hotel. You can see a lot of Indians. The best thing with this hotel is Hospitality. Hotel staff is very friendly and they will treat you like your own family. Must comment on the breakfast - Awesome !!! a lot of varieties , mixture of Indian & Thai foods.
We visited few temples in Thailand (Golden Buddha & Marble Temple). It was a good experience, even though temple securities behave rude to Indians. Donâ??t know why ï?? . Donâ??t miss to visit â??SIAM OCEAN WORLDâ?? (Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World is an aquarium in Bangkok, Thailand, the largest in South East Asia. it covers approximately 10,000 square meters with hundreds of different species on display in exhibits totaling about 5,000,000 liters). It will not be included in the package. A must visit place. You need to pay 500 Thai Bhat. More than any other place I visited so far in Thailand, I would rate this as 10/10.
In Bangkok only hotel was included in the package. So me & my wife decided to travel to different places by Metro Train. This can save a lot of money for you. Buy a Local map and travel.
Shopping @ Bangkok
Bangkok is the best place to shop in Asia. You can find dress, electronics and other items. Never buy anything from Malls. It cost you a bomb. Wherever you stay in Bangkok, ask someone about INDRA MARKET. Itâ??s very huge market, you can find everything in cheaper price (Make sure you bargain too).
If you stay in the same hotel (Check Inn Regency Park) then walk 50 meters to Phrom Phong station. Take ticket to Siam (15 Bhat per ticket) and get down in SIAM and ask to someone where is Indra Market (or you can use Google maps) to find the place). From SIAM station, you need to walk 2 kms to Indra market. In that 2 kms, you can find a lot of shops for dress, sandals etc) .so itâ??s better to walk, rather than catching bike Taxi. I got 5 t-shirts for Indian rupee 100! And brought a Leather jacket for 1000 Bhat. In India am damn sure it cost 5K+.
Overall it was a best Trip and enjoyed a lot.
â?¢ Eat as many mangoes as you possibly can. The mangoes in Thailand are the most delicious in the world.
â?¢ Donâ??t talk about the king. Seriously, not a word.
â?¢ Take tuk-tuks during the day and taxis at night. Taxis are more comfortable, but tuk-tuks give you a better view. Both are terrifying.
â?¢ Get massages. They are fabulous and so inexpensive youâ??ll never again be able to justify paying INR 200!!! for a massage back home. 300 rupees for an hour long foot massage? Yes, please. Avoid massage parlors with signs that read â??nice girls,â?? â??happy girls,â?? or just any mention of girls or women. Unless you are actively looking for a brothel.
â?¢ Eat street food â?? Speaking of street food, donâ??t be afraid to eat it. Itâ??s safe â?? sometimes itâ??s even safer than restaurant food. If it wasnâ??t, Thai people wouldnâ??t be packed in the food stalls each day. Youâ??ll find the best of Thailandâ??s food on the street and it will cost you a fraction of what you pay at a restaurant.
â?¢ â??Where should I shop in Bangkok? â?? Central Chidlom, Siam Paragon & the best one is INDRA MARKET
â?¢ If you travelling from India, Convert Indian Rupee to Thai Bhat & US Dollars. Never carry Indian Rupee to Thailand. Because when you convert money you will get lesser money than what you expect. So better carry 5000 Thai Bhat and Keep rest of the money in USD. If you convert USD to Bhat, you will actually get more money! Thatâ??s what I did ï??
â?¢ Carry / Buy Sun lotions. Itâ??s a very hot city
â?¢ Always carry plastic covers in your bag. If you travel in boat you can keep important documents in the cover
â?¢ If travelling in a tuk tuk, put your bag in between your legs, with an arm through the strap - people on motorbikes will try to drive up and grab your bag
â?¢ Make an effort to learn a few words of Thai. The people are so friendly, and are delighted when you try to speak their language and don't just act like a stereotypical tourist!
â?¢ Don't be afraid to try any method of transport, but make sure you cling on tight! Thai driving is crazy!
â?¢ Be careful, don't trust people too fully, but at the same time remember that most people are not out to hurt you!
â?¢ The best beer in Thailand - It is SINGHA.
â?¢ Motorcycle taxis are one of the most convenient and cheapest ways to get around in Thailand, a short journey on a motorcycle taxi could cost you as little as 20 baht
â?¢ The best Season to visit Thailand - The cool, dry season runs from November to March, after the monsoon.
â?¢ If you are ready to spend 30K more, then Visit Phuket. Itâ??s a Honeymoon spot
