great location away from the city right on the indian ocean,is surrounded by trees and flowers. beautiful sunset and moon rise. Rooms are nice specially the ocean front. pool and the gym are ok. food is italian, nice and expansive. No african chioces here. Some staff are nice. masai guards are very helpful. At the reception this spanish girl Camela is very rude and mostly grumpy. I arrived late at night and didnt know that i had to pay for my stay at checkin. Few days later she screamed at me... It seems a bit out of the way but the location is lovely. Right on the beach, or at the edge of the water depending on the time of day. Finding the restaurant was a little confusing and staff didn't exactly go out of their way to help! The food was very good but we felt that it was quite expensive, even for a 'posh' hotel. The restaurant staff were very pleasant and the service wasn't at all bad. Wifi is not widely available and so I assumed that in a hotel of this nature, it would be a... Read more

An ideal place to holiday and business venues, fantastic restaurant, not usual in hotels, with the advantage of being run by a family, always available to attend your requests, recommend without any doubts.

I generally feel this is a great place to relax. It has a great ambiance and surroundings. Me and my better half absolutely love this place to the point that we chose it for our wedding ceremony back in December 2013. The team and management was great, very friendly, great food and totally enjoyed the breakfast as we stay a couple of nights there. We visit this place for meals and we have never been disappointed.

This is a lovely family run hotel. It is quiet and peaceful, and a fantastic place to just relax. All the staff are so helpful and friendly - nothing is too much trouble! Our room was a good size with an en-suite bathroom (with a huge shower), it was spotlessly clean. The restaurant had a good variety of food on the menu and wasn't too expensive either. The location is great - far enough out of town to avoid the crowds, but close enough to visit areas of interest by tuk-tuk or taxi. We would ... Read more

Beautiful, tranquil, bewitching location. Lush garden, friendly and helpful staff, lovely accommodations. Right on the Indian Ocean. Rooms are very comfortable with a good bed, mosquito netting, nice linens, aircon, and an inviting patio. Everything clean and well maintained, beautiful pool. Restaurant is atmospheric and food good.

A favourite of ours, not just because of the food, but the ambience and view. The food is Italian influenced, so expect great pasta dishes. It has a relaxed feel -the gardens and then the wonderful view over the ocean out to the three islands. After lunch, walk along the beach and watch the fishermen bring in their (small) catch. The informal beach 'fish market' is fascinating and gives a whole new view on local living. The hotel part is expanding, but quality stays well above average --and so c... Read more

I enjoyed my time at this hotel so much. The restaurant and bar right at the water front is so amazing and perfect to calm down after a stressful day in the city. Service is great, food is delicious (really nice pizza!) and rooms are nice and clean! I would come back there any time!

Didn't stay at this hotel but went to the restuarant. The trip to the hotel from the Double Tree by Hilton took some time with traffic but was certainly worth the wait. Very authentic furniture and great atmosphere. Restuarant couldn't be closer to the beach and was great value for money. Good was excellent! Didn't get a chance to see the rooms but if the restuarant is anything to go by they should be great.

It is loceted right on the indian Ocean , with a nice beach (during low tide). The restaurant is also right on the ocean. The food severd in the restaurant is mainly italian and very tasty. The prices ar rather high but it is absolutly worth it. The service in all parts oft he hotel is very good and always friendly. The pool with beds around is also ... Read more

It's still a lovely hotel in a fabulous location. However it was immediately obvious that the chef has changed. The sushi restaurant has closed, the seafood that was exceptional has become average at best. The rest of the menu is fine but I'd avoid the lobster.

A bit expensive but the food is good and the rooms clean and comfortable. However, the overall experience was a real let down. I arrived later than my friends who had been asked to pay in full on arrival. Tired from a long bus journey they paid and the holiday began. I arrived, and a day later two guests left. Then we were summoned to reception and told we hadn't paid enough. They were asking for significantly more, and on checking our original booking we had underpaid but not by what they were ... beside the location, the service and the hotel itself witch are outstanding, the really special thing is the atmosphere... Quiet, relaxing and super friendly are the three words to describe this place in my opinion. if you are spending the night in Dar Es Salaam I strongly suggest to stay at Mediterraneo !

This is the tenth time i have stayed here and the quality of the hospitality is unsurpassed. Every time I'm passing thru Dar I say here. Even the tuk-tuks are pleasant. Asia is easily the most adorable receptist in east africa

The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere next to the beach. We have tried the pizza and the beef. All were great. Significantly above Dar standards and certainly recommended for a good meal in a nice atmosphere. Don't think you'll get disappointed...

went there for a dinner. beautiful scenery. Italian inspired kitchen. very good pizza and pasta product. What is absolutely not understandable is that the service refused to give me access to the restaurant/hotel's WIFI code, by stating that such is available to hotel guests, only. Such kind of policy is certainly not attracting guests to the restaurant ! Another thing to improve is the "taxi" service which is provided by the reception. To ask for 30.000 TZS for a 5 minutes ride is quite obscene... Read more

It's a third time staying at this Italian family owned modest beach hotel in Dar. One feels the warm welcome upon arrival on the beautifully manicured grounds and warm smiles. The beckoning ocean waves, fresh culinary, decor and clean rooms all provide such a relaxing and memorable stay. Its a great beach hotel to hide away from city centre chaos but still not out of reach, just bear in mind travel plans and you'll be ok. Its good enough for couples and still welcoming for kids. Visited the restaurant only. Amazing food in a very scenic setting. Helpful attentive staff. We loved the salads, pizza and the seafood platter. However we were taken aback by the staff's reluctance to share wi fi passwords to restaurant guests. Will definitely come back for the relaxed ambiance and beautiful views. Its a good 30/40 minute drive from downtown Dar but it can take longer when its busy.

Rooms are spacious and tidy, staff is friendly and helpful, but the best thing is the magic of the Indian Ocean next to the hotel. There are nice and cozy lounge chairs available to watch the sunset and mosquito nets to cover the bed. However, bring some repellent with you when sitting outside.

Had dinner here a few hours ago. The food was good and the service was average. The restaurant is located at the Kawe Beach and the view from the restaurant is magnificent. The place also has a swimming pool and during the day visitors can have access to swim in the Indian Ocean. Munir D. Munir D.

This has been a favourite on this trip, a lovely, relaxing, seaside hotel with great local decor and excellent food! The rooms are lovely, some looking on to the ocean and others looking into a quiet garden, all with their own little veranda with comfy seating and cushions. Comfy beds with mosquito netting, great shower rooms and good TV and WiFi service. Really romantic ambiance, quite secluded, very very beautiful décor perfect for a date. I have visited this restaurant for dinner twice now and both times me and my boyfriend have been really really disappointed with the food. Its priced on the expensive side for Dar es salaam, with 10,000tsh for a beer and average of around 45,000tsh for a meal. Would have gladly paid if the food was even remotely edible, went back to the hotel 2nd time because we felt there might have been a mistake the first... Read more

This is one of my favourite hotels. The rooms are simple but luxurious and spotless. The beach is not great since it's in Dar but the definitely make the most of it with great seating to look out to sea. The reception staff are friendly as superbly helpful. Really couldn't ask for more. The only disappoint is that the food is a little overpriced or my liking, but I guess you pay a premium from a beautiful place to be.

Nice place to have lunch or dinner. Excellent menu and well-prepared food. The view is stunning and the sea gives you some cooling when it is hot. Italian inspired menu. But the interior is fantastic and very odd. The beach is not great but that is OK if you are there for lunch or dinner.

I stayed at the Meditarraneo for one night while on a business trip. After the traffic jams of Dar, walking along the shaded pathways to be greeted by the beautiful ocean views was simply AWESOME! I checked in and was shown a spacious, clean and comfortable room with air conditioning and a lovely bathroom. The dining area is just a few yards from the beach with nothing interrupting the scenic view. The food was delicious, recommend the fish fillet, all this while waves crash on the beach and cra...
