We loved the hotel, room and facilities. The staff were fantastic. The location in the middle of Zermatt is perfect if you want to ski and to be a part of the town.. Also the food was delicious. And you could notice the professional management from the family owner who was running the Romantic Hotel Julen. //Ken S from Lidingö

We like this restaurant. One of the sisters in the StafelAlp empire. This is the second occasion we have visited over the years. Meat is a speciality..... Last year we had a table for eight. This year six. Really well looked after and food was excellent again.

This is a really lovely hotel in the centre of Zermatt! Typical alpine with wonderful homely feel. Great welcome and room 403 had lovely view of Matterhorn. The spa was an added bonus! The evening meal was very good value for money and very tasty- I really liked the salad bar. The breakfast was really good too- must be good when non residents come in to have breakfast ! Staff very informative about local facilities and walks! Although the winter walks- signposted - but were not groomed in late A... Read more

Had a brilliant weekend get away at this special chalet style hotel in the centre of Zermatt. We had booked a Matterhorn view room which was a brilliant decision as we actually woke up to see the sun rise on the spectacular mountain. It was a breathtaking view!! The hotel is located about 10 mins walk from the city centre so nothing is too far away. We were welcomed by a very helpful and cheerful check in clerk and were able to check into our room 4 hours before the actual check in time, which... Read more

This was an upgrade from the Daniella hotel (which was closed for the off season). We weren't disappointed. The friendly staff and calming nature of the place was wonderful. From a great buffet breakfast to the balcony overlooking the Matterhorn, I can see why the hotel is well rated. Would definitely recommend to anyone on a trip to Zermatt.

This hotel was great. Situated right in the center of Zermatt. The rooms were a bit small, but very nice and clean. They were very "Swiss Alps" and completely done up in wood paneling that resembled a mountain lodge. Had a nice balcony with views of the Matterhorn. The staff was very helpful and picked us up from the train station and also gave suggestions for restaurants, etc. Overall a great stay.

We absolutely LOVED Zermatt. The Romantic Hotel Julen was wonderful. We arrived on the Glacier Express and the hotel picked up in their little electric taxi. Because the village is basically car free, the ride to the hotel seems like its taking you way out of the city center, but its just the way they have to go. The reality is this place is perfectly located close to everything! The lobby is inviting with its cute couches and sitting areas, fireplace and the bar is just off the lobby. We en... Read more

Do you enjoy staying in a hotel that reflects the cultural heritage of Switzerland rather than a sleekly modernistic decor? This is your place. The hotel has been completely modernised, but retains the traditional decor theme. Our bathroom was great. In the Julen family for about 109 years, the Julen is managed by the third generation, Paul Julen, He is ideally qualified for his position by training, family tradition and charming personality. His parents, sister and wife are equally friendl... Read more

We would give this immaculate, family-run, warm, welcoming, hotel 6 stars if that were possible! (and this is the first time, during our many travel years, that we have ever said that!) We loved everything about it. We were met at the train station by the hotel driver who loaded up our bags, drove us to the hotel in his small electric vehicle and delivered our bags to our room while we checked in. The hotel is located in a traditional Swiss-chalet style building typical of Zermatt and othe... Read more

Romantic Hotel Julen, situated just off the main Bahnhofstrasse is a very traditional building with stunning views of the Matterhorn from guest rooms. Comfortable accommodation in a rustic Swiss style. The staff were friendly, very helpful and exceptionally tolerant of my bad Swiss German. We thoroughly enjoyed the lively Zermatt atmosphere with its variety of shops and eating places.

My wife, daughters, and I are winding up a 3-day stay here. We are most impressed with the attention to the guests that the staff of this family-run and owned hotel display to the guests. For example, today we went on a tour led by Paul-Marc Julen, the 30-something operator of this hotel, to see the Julen family's herd of sheep, high up in the mountains. The passion and interest that Paul-Marc showed to his guests (and his obvious pleasure in managing a herd of some 300 sheep) was genuine. He... Read more

Why oh why do I love this hotel so much!? We stayed in room 202 WITHOUT Matterhorn view. We had a beautiful terrace overlooking the street. The room was the dreamiest most deliciously beautiful room all natural wood surrounding on ceiling and walls, with the most colorful striped wall-to-wall carpet and pink, green and yellow details everywhere. The spa in the hotel was exceptional too! Large indoor pool (Egyptian themed) with a Roman-styled Tepidarium. Oh my goodness it was luxury at every ... Read more

We picked this hotel because of its central location and the outstanding reviews. We were not disappointed ‚?? we were taken great care of from the moment we were picked up at the train station to our departure ‚?? the team at the hotel was professional, attentive, helpful and friendly. No request was too small or too difficult. The hotel location gave us the perfect base for Summer hikes in the mountains while still allowing us to enjoy the attractions of Zermatt town. Zermatt is the most quite beautiful and clean air city.. This is our second trip to Zermatt and we tried this hotel for a change.. The hotel was in a very perfect location..The room was very clean and cosy with warm colours and all wood walls..and there is no air conditioning but the wether was perfect there..the staff was very professional and friendly.. The breakfast was very poor, that the only thing was bad in this hotel.

My husband and I were scheduled to stay at the Hotel Daniela, but received a free upgrade to the Hotel Julen. Lucky us -- the room was very comfortable, quiet, clean, with a balcony and view. The breakfast here is great, and you can eat dinner outside when the weather cooperates. The people who work here were very nice -- free pick up from the train station and helpful information and suggestions for things to do, mountain hikes, etc.

I stayed in single room last week and had really great time at this hotel. Room is so romantic and comfortable. Bed was excellent, drinks in the refrigerator was free, free nespresso coffee, wonderful breakfast and half board dinner, great spa. Nothing to complain about this hotel.

This is an outstanding hotel in all respects. The rooms are really great and well appointed in an all timber layout making them really great looking and giving this "alpine traditional" flair (we had a superior room). Bathroom is also well equipped. The breakfast is to die for and the service is second to none. Super friendly, extremely forthcoming and without the sometimes "in your face" friendliness in many hotels. The staff from the room cleaner to the owner himself are all super professional... My husband and I recently stayed at the Romantik Hotel Julen and had a wonderful experience. The hotel itself is darling and the staff was so nice and helpful. We were traveling with our dog and they even put out a bed and dishes for him. The hotel was kind enough to upgrade our room one with a Matterhorn view which was breathtaking. The room was beautiful and had lots of great closet space for storing our bags. We booked the half board option and the breakfast was wonderful. The hotel is also... Read more

Even if the rooms are a bit too much decorated in my opinion, we had a very good stay at this hotel. Dog friendly hotel, which is what we needed, as we travel with our dog everywhere, the personal was friendly and the reception all the time ready. Big pro is that they have a shuttle mini car to pick you up at the station and to bring you back there. Spa quite relaxing, only the cold/hot shower didnt work... Breakfast with a big choice of everything, from hot meals such as scrambled eggs, bacon ... Read more

Best hotel in Europe in my opinion. Central location, great staff, romantic rooms. It has EVERYTHING you would need. Plus it has the best breakfast layout on the planet, hands down. We were on a Europe 2 week trip and this hotel was easily the nicest we stayed at. View of the Matterhorn was spectacular. The town is awesome pretty too!! Whatever it costs to stay here, it is money well spent.

Well worth the 4 stars. The hotel really has those added extras. Prices do vary but if you can get for a decent price it's well worth it. Room was large with table and own balcony with chairs. Rooms have Nespresso machine and pods are topped up daily. Water is also topped up daily. Beds are firm but sizeable. Chocolates daily also! Slippers and bathrobes provided for the spa. Spa on site with treatments and sauna and pool - all very nice with bottled water provided and even a gym. Staff very ni... Read more

The challenge in rating this hotel is my ignorance of what other hotels in this price range in Zermatt offer. The pro's: Outstanding buffet breakfast. Central location. Very pleasant staff. Clean. Free transport from the train station. The con's: Small room. Thin walls. Uncomfortable bed. Shower head that had a mind of its own.

This hotel has everything you look for in the Alps: cozy, spotlessly clean rooms, helpful staff that cater to your every need and a fulfilling and delicious breakfast (including several homemade meats and ditto butter!). It's centrally located in Zermatt and we will certainly come again!

I stayed at this hotel in Zermatt with my wife from 19/10/16 to 21/10/16. The experience starts from the train station pick up as the hotel provides a free pick up service. However, this request must be made via email to the hotel when they send the email on your upcoming booking to your mail box. The check in was fast as the room was ready when we arrived at the hotel about noon time and was able to have early check in.The staff brought us up to our room and explain the room facilities and amen...
