We were coming from the Montreux train station and had some difficulty in locating the hotel building as the signage was not obvious. Thankfully we met a hotel staff along the way who gladly showed us the way. The walk took us about 15 minutes probably because we had bags with us. Check in was smooth and staff were courteous and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. WiFi was rocket speed! Only downside was no coffee/tea making facilities. Breakfast was simple and personally I don't think i... Read more

We had a nice stay at Helvetie for 2 nights while visiting the Christmas Markets, which I highly recommend. The hotel is perfectly located in front of the Casino, just a few minutes walk to the Freddy Mercury Statue, and approx. 10min walk to the rail station. Very friendly and helpful staff. The 19th century Hotel is well maintained, although some renovation/modernization is highly needed, but for such an old building I can imagine the investments are very high. We were on the 3rd floor in a e... Read more

I'll start by saying that the staff at Hotel Helvetie are great. Always smiling, great service was had by them. Unfortunately, this is where the positive part ends. Hotel Helvetie is a very old and tired hotel. You can tell from the moment you step into the lobby. The room we were given didn't match the photos that were sent to us. We were made to believe that we were getting a renovated room, but we received a very old room instead. You can tell by the stained carpets and the dirty shower curt... Read more

Hi recently stayed at the Hotel Helvetie for work. When I arrived they had no record of my booking and questioned my confirmation. Fortunately I had printed a copy of this. On departure although my booking stated my company had pre-paid for my room I was asked to pay. I did, questioning why when I was sure my work would have paid. I was assured and the manager even said he had checked emails. Later that day they emailed me to say payment had been taken in error and they would refund the differen... Read more

The Hotel has a great position. It's not modern in furniture and look, but it's an hotel, and it's comfortable to sleep and stay (that's what an hotel is meant to do). The central position is perfect so you just walk down and you are in the middle of the main street in Montreux. I absolutely recommend this hotel for the position it helds in the city! Montreux is wonderful, and you need to go there at least once in your life (summer time best time to go).

We had a nice stay in this historic hotel. I really enjoyed it. The hotel is perfectly situated. The room was very clean. The staff was friendly. The big stairs in the entry is impressive. Thank for this stay!

Stayed 2 nights June 2016. Pleasant staff. Room small and more shabby than chic. Bathroom below par - shower at hip level- old fashioned fitments and a horrid cupboard with wallpaper covered (?) shelves. Comfortable large bed and clean. Breakfast was as basic as a continental breakfast can be. Loved the old lift. Central location and quiet at night. A bit disappointed overall but didn't spoil the holiday but doubt if we would use again.

Started our Swiss holiday in Montreux and stayed at this friendly hotel. It is very dated and in need of an update but the staff are friendly and the breakfast was good. Don't miss the almond croissants! Bedrooms are past their best and very compact with strange bathroom configurations. Cramped shower and toilet area with the sink in the main bedroom area. Great views over the lake from rooms on higher floors and easy walking distance to train station and boat pier!

Upon entering the hotel, there was a modern art exhibition so the hotel looked very lively. My wife and I checked-in and the first room we got was nothing at all like what we imagined, the bathroom was old and dirty and the sink is located in the bed room. I ran down to the reception and explained that it was a great difference from the photo and what we got, he understood me and explained that the establishment is very old and rooms differ and changed us to a much better room, slightly larger w... First of all the name of this hotel is changing to j5 Hotels over the next year. So trying to find the place, was a bit difficult as I was looking for Hotel Helvetie and not the j5 Hotels sign that was above the door. The lobby is very nice - but the rooms are less than desirable. As I was writing this - a drip of water fell on my sisters head. Then another and another. The front desk lady, Joady, was very helpful trying to change us rooms at 9:30pm -- the third room finally was drip free.... Read more

We stayed in three 3-star hotels during our trip to Switzerland. This one was as expected - comfortable enough and clean enough but in a hotel that has seen better days - about 40 years ago I think. The room was big enough as was the bathroom but the decor was from the 60s or 70s I think. Room was very hot with only a fan to cool things down. However, I simply took out the duvet from its cover and slept with the cover over me. Breakfast was Ok - cold meats, nice bread and croissants, yoghu... Read more

We used this hotel as our stay over while we we making use of the golden pass train to Lucern. As we were happy with the atmosphere, the service and esspecially the breakfast we revisted the hotel 2 days later. We left our car in the hotel parking. The room and bathroom are clean, instead of an ac the room was provided with a ventilator. Ask for the free Montreux Riviera ticket to make free use of public transport and reduced fees on other activities.

We loved our stay at this hotel. It is right in downtown Montreaux so you can walk everywhere. It has a lot of old world charm, a kind of faded glory that comes with being large, old and much used. Perhaps a little dog-eared around the edges but that is not to suggest it is run down or dusty. It is thoroughly charming. Our room was really big and spacious with a little balcony that overlooked a green roof and we could just see the lake between the buildings. The bathroom was old fashioned looki... Read more

The hotel was located fairly close to the railway station and to shops and restaurants. The staff were helpful. The rooms were nice with high ceilings but the ensure was very small with a tiny shower. There were no facilities for making tea or coffee which we have come to expect. The breakfast was quite good.

We stayed here last year and decided to book as soon as we got home. This hotel is perfectly placed for our needs. It is across the road from the Casino which is where there was a big Freddie Mercury party and it is a 5-10 minute walk from the Freddie Mercury statue and the lake. We were checked in straight away and our room was on the second floor. No room is the same. We didn't have a balcony like last year, but we had a big living area with a sofa and coffee table. Unfortunately, the TV... Read more

Stayed for 1 night as part of golden pass rail tour. This is an older hotel which would've been very grand in its day. Our room was very large with comfortable beds but no a/c, which was needed but there was a fan and being on a higher floor meant we were happy to leave the large windows open. Great location, we had views of the lake and casino. Breakfast was included, seemed a limited selection but all fresh. Staff very helpful and friendly. If this hotel updates I'm sure it'll be a very pri... Read more

the location close to centre, 5-10mins walk to Freddie statue, and very close to all shopping centre. for this location, this can be the best deal you can get. the hotel is cute small classic hotel and very tidy and clean, room quite spacious and close to attraction area like the castle (its 1mn even less to walk to montreux casino bus stop and take bus like 5mins to the castle.) breakfast is good too.

I liked Hotel Helvetie very much. Other reviews criticized it for being past its prime; but then so am I. For me, it was a perfect hotel in a perfect location. I'd go back any time! I liked that it was so close to Freddie Mercury's statue and to the casino that held Freddie's birthday bash - not to mention the Queen Experience.

The hotel is located in the middle of the main areas of the city. The hotel has seen its best days and desperately need an upgrade. There is no isolation between the rooms and the corridors so you can hear everything. However there are new beds and they are very comfy. It's clean and staff is friendly. Convenient parking nearby although not complimentary. We stayed for one day and were happy with the stay, but could have been so much better if they had spent some(a lot) money on upgrading the wh...
