"Returning to St. Martin after a 10 year absence we stayed at La Plantation, recommended by friends. We had a lovely experience and found it to be a friendly place, French style. The reception staff were very nice and accomodating. Our room was clean, comfortable and simple with a wonderful shower, plenty of towels and a firm mattress. Pillows could have been more soft. We enjoyed the terrace and being able to sit outside in February. Some things could be perked up a bit, like the mini-kitchen appliances and cooking utensils, but we didn't use them anyway. The cleaning staff was efficient and the air conditionning and ceiling fan kept us very comfortable. We liked the card that enables the guests to use the beach restaurants and chairs, etc. without needing cash. We checked out for a late flight and were able to store our luggage and shower when we were ready to leave. Breakfast was the same everyday, but was delicious and we were well served by the wonderful and welcoming staff. It is a European style place, not the glitzy, marble floored palaces that many travelers expect these days. The only complaint we had was the hot water heater broke, but that was hardly their fault! We would go back!"

"The island is filled with service personnel who are bureaucratic and petty. We saw or were victims of many people who gave false, dismissive, challenging, or curtly instructive lectures to innocent tourists looking for guidance. However this hotel was the exception to this rule. Everyone we encountered spoke several languages and tried always to take our needs into consideration above their own. They made special arrangements for us in many instances. They booked flights at the last minute, gave directions and advise for entertainment and dining by calling friends when they didn't know, and indulged our taking an errant dog under our care temporarily (even though it probably caused some irritation to other guests and extra work for themselves) among other challenges.
The room was well maintained and well stocked and appointed. The space both within the room and the surrounding private patio was comfortable and private. The bed was comfortable. The shower was great and the air conditioning very efficient. The free breakfast was wonderful, much more than we expected for a 'continental' breakfast.
No complaints at all."
