We returned from our wedding/honeymoon on 21st July 2016 after a brilliant two week holiday. We travelled with our four children and mum, so just s small party but we were treated like royalty. The dreaded journey from the airport to the hotel literally is a two minute bus ride, which is such a joy after a long flight, and once we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with smiles, rum punch and a cold flannel - delightful! It took just a few minutes to check in at reception, our bags were taken to our rooms, and within an hour of landing at the airport we were settled by the pool, we couldn't have been happier. Our room was 103 on the ground floor, with the rest of our party in the next two rooms as requested. We could open our patio door straight onto lush grass, and within a few feet was the main pool. There were always plenty of pool chairs, around the pool and on the beach, which was almost in touching distance from the pool. If you read feedback about the seaweed on the beach, yes, it is there every day, but the staff do an amazing job of clearing it away through out the whole day and it was never a bother to us. The sea was so warm, it is worth just looking past the seaweed!! Fresh towels were available every day, and there were friendly staff everywhere you looked, from the towel guy, drinks being ordered and delivered to the pool, to the bar staff (Big Ted!!), to the ladies on reception, especially Janelle and Dani who proved extremely helpful, to Onita our on-site wedding planner, Victoria the nurse, Kendall the photographer and especially Maryanne our cleaner who provided such special service to us, especially on our wedding day when she organised beautiful decorating in our room for after our wedding. The wedding was a small affair with just a few of us, but it was absolutely perfect, having booked a few extra's before the holiday, we were able to make changes and add further extra's when we arrived, nothing was too much trouble, and as for the photographs and video, they were superb. Onita really looked after all of us, and we never felt there was anything to worry about - such a wonderful stress free wedding, we highly recommend Coconut Bay for a wedding abroad!!! The food was splendid, freshly cooked meats, pasta dishes, fish - all of excellent quality, and we especially enjoyed the out-door eating experience twice per week, food stations were set up and the food was still cooked in front of you. We were lucky enough to enjoy Carnival week too - what a treat, an amazing night of food, great weather and superb entertainment!! The person I have not mentioned yet is Ryan, the Virgin Rep, who we definitely got our money's worth from!! Two days before the end of our holiday, I (the bride!!) suffered an agonising accident (my own fault!!) while zip-lining (a great day out for all the family, if you remember to brake at the end of the 30mph final decent that is!!) which resulted in a difficult couple of days, several trips to the local hospital (staff there were great too!) and returning home with my foot in a plaster cast. Ryan pulled out all the stops to support us with our insurance claim, running backwards and forwards to the hospital to pick up documents needed to ensure I was able to return home on the same flight as my family, making so many phone calls and to help me arrange an upgrade to business class to ensure my leg was elevated, plus additional support at both St Lucia airport and Gatwick when checking in and getting on and off the plan. It was a really stressful experience overall, but Ryan and the reception staff helped in every way they could, even offering to extend our stay should we have needed to remain behind after the rest of our party went home as planned. Coconut Bay is not the most exquisite 5 star hotel in the world, but for the Caribbean experience, cleanliness, great food and for the most friendly and welcoming staff you could wish to meet - this place is a definite 5 star as far as we are concerned. We plan to go back on our own next time to make much more use of the adult side of the resort and the spa, which we just did not get enough time to utilise as we had our children with us. Can't wait to go back!!!
