"Starting with the pluses: this is a beautiful resort, a great location, and a fairly nice property. The one bedroom villas are quaint and have good views. The AC in the bedrooms is a real plus, since some competitors don't have that. The staff is fairly friendly, and the resort could be really wonderful. It was nice to have a free tasty albeit smallish breakfast every morning on a terrace with great views. However, there are many issues. I don't want to get into them all, but the main one is maintenance. This resort has seen some better days and should be much better maintained, and if it's older and in somewhat of a disrepair, at least it could be kept spotlessly cleaned. They are charging 4 and 5 star prices for a 3-3.5 star resort at best, in it's current state of repair, and there is no excuse for not putting much more of the money back into the resort to make it prettier and more well maintained. There needs to be more oversight by management of staff who are getting away with a lot of things behind the back of the management & owner: from staff not cleaning properly and not getting things done, not answering requests or being prompt, not cleaning rooms and public areas thoroughly, hanging out or trespassing in areas where they shouldn't be and thus creating privacy issues for some guests, and not making sure things are repaired properly and replaced when broken (ex our hot tub at the villa was down the entire time we were there, they should have fixed it with a week to work on it, instead of taking staff time & money to build a new waterfall.) There are totally unrealistic and unfocused management and staff attitudes towards what makes a resort great, what makes people return to a resort. and prioritizing repairs and other work. You can't beg people to come back and not present a wonderful experience (in every way for them) the first time- there are just too many great resorts out there, and the economy is such that people will spend their hard earned money only where they get great quality value and service. They need to lower prices until they can learn to clean and repair and make the resort look really good. Example, lack of running water or hot water for more than about 30 mins per stay on a one time issues, is a deal breaker for anyone who frequents 4-5 star resorts. Period. Keep the property looking nice throughout with lots more ropical plants and beautiful vistas and paths to attract walks and visitors, not like some large maintenance shed and work area with trash burning and people living in the jungle, etc., everywhere but by the front desk, pool, cottages, and spa."
