Stayed at the Grand Castillo in July and very impressed, lives up to the reviews and would recommend for families. The staff were brilliant and very friendly, taking time to speak to the kids on several occasions and adding to the general good service you would expect from this standard of hotel. Food was actually better than expected as some reviews had been slightly negative but no issues really for us. Only little niggles were the kids pool area with the slides, not such a nice area to sit... Read more

Admittedly I didn't request a sea view but did not expect a room facing a waste area! Certainly was not expecting to share the room with cockroaches that took housekeeping about an hour very late at night to exterminate. That apart the hotel is lovely. Food, drink and amenities v good. Would probably stay here again as long as I didn't have room 2122! Requested a room change but now know the Spanish for cant be done "No es posible a pesar de tener habitación con cucarachas que se enfrenta a un ... Read more

Spent eleven nights at this hotel. Truly lived up to its five star rating. Our room was huge - superior double with sea view - with a giant bed and double sofa bed, large bathroom with separate walk-in shower and a separate walk-in wardrobe area. Situated centrally above the Sport Bar, so some background noise in the evening which stopped dead at midnight, so no real problem at all. Food, drink and service in the main buffet restaurant were all first-class. Great variety of food at every mea... Read more

We travelled to this hotel for a family holiday with our 2 years old in May and had a really enjoyable 10 days here. The good bits: this hotel is great for kids with a small dedicated area round the kids pool so that you can keep an eye on your children There is also the waterslide pool which our daughter absolutely loved. She was too young for the main kids club but that also looked good from other people we spoke to Activities for adults were great too, especially water polo and water basket ... Read more

Just back from 2 week holiday at the Gran Castillo and I can categorically state we will never be back. This hotel has confirmed why I don't like all-inclusives! We went here as a family of four plus my parents in law and we're looking forward to 2 weeks relaxing the sun. At least it was sunny! This is NOT a 5 star resort, it is a 3 star at best. The hotel is tired and needs significant investment to bring it up to date. I can accept the early rising to reserve sun beds although it would be i... Read more

We stayed the last week of August as a family of 4 our kids 5 and 7 and what a brilliant time we all had. Our kids keep asking to go back and we have stayed in many all inclusive hotels and this has been the best. Why? Room great, staff brilliant, food very varied and more extensive than we have ever experienced. The staff went out of their way to help and this was never more apparent after I explained I had coeliacs disease. In every restaurant and bar they explained what I could eat and the... Read more

We visited this hotel at the end of August and I have been meaning to write a review for a while. Firstly I would like to mention the fact that like the reviewer who posted yesterday we also booked directly with the hotel and had no issue with the exchange rate. We were told a price in Euros and at the end of the day it depends on your bank or credit card company as to what the exchange rate will be when the transaction goes through. We paid exactly what was expected. On to the review. We found ... Read more

stayed here all inclusive for 5 nights with group, check in was friendly and efficent one of the rooms out of 3 was ready so we were able to put bags and start using the resort. The rooms are spacious and very clean, nice big bathroom with bath, shower and double sink, The resort website states 11 pools but some of these are small whirlpool or childrens pool, the main pools however are not crowded and was quite easy to find loungers. There were 4 restaurants on site the main buffet had lots of st... Excellent resort, especially for families. Staff are utterly attentive and helpful in every regard. From porters to receptionists to waiter's, entertainment, maintenence & management; cannot fault anyone we met in our time at Gran Castillo. Would highly recommend and would have no hesitation in returning in the future

We have been visiting all inclusive hotels for 10 years and although this hotel was a step up price wise it was well worth the extra money. The hotel staff were very helpful freindly and professional .Of all the 5 star hotels that we have visited this is the best. The hotel is geared for families but we avoided the school holidays and the children we mostly under fives .There were adult areas which was great in the restaurant and separate pool. Fantastic rooms lovely food waiter service for dri... Read more

We booked this on the back of the reviews we read. Although we read some negative ones we thought it was people exaggerating however they were correct - this place is awful. The hotel is tired and the site cannot cope with the number of visitors. Cleanliness is terrible and 2 toilets for a pool area which holds around 200 people. The food is awful and kids are given chips/hotdogs/nuggets all week. Nothing for vegetarians. The hotel staff ignore all complaints and we spent the whole of our stay ... Read more

I visited this hotel with a male friend. It was our first holiday as a couple. On arrival at 9 pm we were immediately offered either a glass of sparkling water or sparkling wine. We asked if the restaurant was open and were escorted there. Our waitress, Nancy , asked what we would like to drink. We asked for white wine. She then asked if we would like a glass or a bottle!!! Now I have stayed in hotels all over the world with my late husband, nothing less than 4 star, but have never been a... Read more

The family and I were immeasurably looking forward to our stay at the Dream Gran Castillo Resort, highly recommended by my parents and came with a five star rating (and five star price). There were eight of us travelling and we were staying in two ground floor rooms next to the pool - four adults, four young children. When we arrived we were greeted and offered juice, water or champagne. We were seated while we waited to be seen by reception and sat around for just over 15 minutes. With the ... Read more

I only review a hotel compaed to what I paid not the star it is given. we upgraded to premium for only £300 extra which is worth it for the bali beds alone. You can book them the day before and they are made up with lovely red towels provided clean each day. The food was good but not 5*, similar to wat I've had at oter 4* properties in Lanzarote. Lovely hotel and ok location. Rooms wonderful and cleaned daily. The only problem I had with this hotel was the food and staff. I've stayed in a good few 5 star hotels and this is not one. Food I think was a poor selection with cats and flys everywhere!!! Waiters are extremely rude and unhelpful. Tables not cleared up quick enough and god forbid you ask for something!! 2 occasions no butter available at breakfast, asked for help and staff walk away. Flys we're everywhere all over food!!! We took a weeks break at the Castillo at the end of October which unfortunately coincided with the school holidays. Having read the mixed reviews we were a little apprehensive as to what we might find, but overall we had a really good holiday. From the outset, the reception staff were excellent, special thanks to Eileen who was outstanding. In fact all of the staff throughout our stay greeted us with a ready smile and were unfailingly polite. Our room couldn't have been any better, it was large ... Read more

Booked for a family of 4. Our room was fantastic, based in the castle, with a seperate walk in wardrobe, bathroom with 2 sinks, bath, large shower and private toilet. The kids slept on the twins we slept on the sofa bed which was not the comfiest but ok. Breakfast was all fresh with good choice, same at dinner and tea all in the main restaurant. It was never too busy but I'd go early on in the service. The Chinese restaurant was good the Italian ok. But, all food was fresh and for an all inclu... Read more

We are currently on the last night of our 7 night stay here and are very underwhelmed. We have stayed in 5 star hotels around the World and this is a 4 star hotel at very best. On arrival, my wife and I and our two young boys were dropped off outside the hotel ( down a bit of a driveway rather than outside the doors) and were left to make our way inside with our baggage and pushchair. Not 5 star service. We were shown to our room (superior sea room suite) which was a nice large suite if a bi... Read more

Currently on our last day of a five day break to the Gran Castillo. I echo what some recent reviewers have said about building works taking place - we were not informed about this and the noise and work is almost constant during the day. Far from relaxing and definitely not what was expected. The food is also quite poor. The buffet is the high point, perhaps surprisingly. The Italian and Chinese restaurants leave a LOT to be desired, with cockroaches in the gents' toilets in the former. Food w... Read more
