The Location Playa Blanca is know to be very touristy with English bars and restaurants with lots of families and, for all intense and purposes, it is that however, The Volcan is about 1/2 mile east of the main resorts of Playa Blanca and about 1 mile from the "High Street". Set in the Rubicon Marina, it is a little quieter with a slower pace; the gentle ripples on the quiet marina add to a relaxed and calming atmosphere. The Marina is a cross between traditional with the restaurants, lightly... Read more

Very impressed with hotel reception and welcome. Our room was good everything we needed except wi-if,but you could sit in reception if you wanted wi-fi. We only had bed and breakfast which was superb as was the service, didn't rate snack bar near the pool food came from main kitchen quite a long wait and by the time it was walked round uncovered too it was luke warm, apart from that we enjoyed our stay very relaxing weather could have been better. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room (we paid for sea view) was very good with lots of space . Cleanliness was to a very high standard. The only areas that for us let it down were facilties I would expect as standard for a 5 star such as one heated pool, comfortable sun loungers , jacuzzi came at a price as you had to pay extra to upgrade to 'club member' . Those visiting with children need to know that wifi is only available in reception. We stayed B&B and the breakfast was goo... Read more

Upgraded on arrival to a Club Suite, this was a welcome surprise and probably due to both our birthdays taking place during our 5 night stay. Free bottle of bubbly and cakes on our birthday was very nice and much appreciated. The Club area was perfect as we wanted a quiet break, the hot tubs and heated pool was just what we wanted as most of the time we had them to ourselves. The standard room we booked was large and well equipped, cleaned daily with bed linen and towels changed. Stayed half board and food was good with plenty of choice.Main pool was out of action, but we were told before our stay.As we walked around the pool we sometimes got dust and water spray from the work going on which could have been avoided by screening off the work area, but as compensation we were allowed to use the club pool. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Enjoyed an 11 night holiday with my husband and 8 year old daughter. Had read about the closure of large pool for renovations prior to arrival so was not an issue, and, even though half term week, never had a problem getting a sun lounger. We could also use Club Volcan, which we visited while our daughter was at kids club. Room was great size, with all the expected touches and restocked daily. My husband, two kids (7 and 5) and I are just home from a lovely relaxing 1 week stay at this hotel. The hotel was beautiful, location excellent and food very good. We were on B&B basis but did have dinner one evening and lunch by the pool bar on a couple of occasions during the week. Its only a short walk down to the promenade with lots of restaurants to choose from so I would highly recommend B&B basis for the hotel and it was very nice for everyone to get out for a walk each evening. Our second visit was even better than the first stay at the Volcan. This time we had paid for a sea view - well worth it. As I use a wheel chair we phoned ahead to ensure the room was accessible without been a being a disabled room. Perfect room , 501 a short distance from the lift, but far enough to be away from noise and a beautiful marina / sea view from the balcony. The hotel had even put a seat into the bath for me. The room well presented and clean - plenty big enough for 3 of us. We stay... Read more

We've just returned from a weeks stay at the volcan. It was just my husband and myself and we had the most amazing break. The hotel catered for our needs beautifully providing us with a hassle free, relaxing, luxury break. The selection of foods served was vast and beautifully presented although I've mentioned to the hotel maybe a little more care could be taken in the labelling to ensure things like diced pineapple are not really papaya ( granted I'm being picky). Pros: Nice room. Very comfortable. Good size and had nice balcony. Attractive hotel grounds and good location for nice part of the marina. Breakfast was lovely. Great choice. Service very good too. Cons: Our room didn't have an amazing view. The showers leaks water all the way from the bath into the hallway. The sunbeds by the pool were always all reserved with towels by 9am every morning. Bit windy by the pool for some reason. Bit of a wind trap. 1km walk to beach/night life.

We visited The Volcan Lanzarote for a holiday in June 2016 and were overwhelmed by the splendour of this 5 star hotel. Enter via a "chapel" soothing church music, candles and the smell of incense, to a welcoming reception area. This area houses trees, innumerable sitting areas and a gin bar. What a find! I visited Hotel Volcan 3 years ago for 2 weeks and had a fabulous time and went on trips every second day. I had a wonderful view from my balcony of the Marina + Playa Blanca + food was great and I felt comfortable and relaxed to be there. I went back for a week's visit (9th June - 15th June 2016) and it was even better. Let's start with the food, We were full board and the breakfast was perfect, couldn't fault the quality of he food, great omelettes, pancakes, fruit galore and the nice touch with cava and even vodka for a Bloody Mary! Dinner was also great, always plenty of choice and if nothing appealed, fresh pasta with pesto or any other... Read more

This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel. We cannot find fault at all. The food is fantastic and very varied (we stayed half board) and the staff cannot do enough to help. My son (6) sat with the lifeguards, who were quite happy to humour him, even getting him a chair and lifeguard hat to wear! The pool has been tiled since we last stayed and looks great. You can access the marina from the hotel and this has a number of bars/restaurants and shops. The beach, which is very clean and... Read more

We stayed half board (no Club membership) and whilst we found breakfast was very good in terms of quantity, quality and service, the same could not be said about the evening meal. We often felt the quality and presentation was poor with cold food served on cold plates was just not good enough and sometimes tasteless. Service by two or three waiters also left much to be desired and although I hasten to add, the hotel staff were generally very good, helpful and pleasant. As a result, we enjoyed t... Read more

I've just recommended this hotel to my friends who gave now booked the adults only club volcan area! Food was fab and tons of choice. Great for a winter break or summer sun. The beautiful marina was lovely to walk around and watch the world go by which the hotel overlooks. Thomas Cook were great from their communication and service provided. Definitely booking through them again to this hotel. Upmarket area of playa blanca and a nice stroll to the beach only 10 mins away along the promenade.

It may be of surprise to some that Lanzarote is a rather upmarket destination with lots of chic eco-friendly accommodation, art trails, cycling circuits, challenging surfing opportunities, non golfing leisure activities and even wine tasting locations are all available on the menu. For those of a certain age Playa Blanca is probably the most attractive of the three main resorts mainly because it is tranquil, scenic and an added bonus is that many of the main tourist attractions like the awe... This was our 7th holiday in Lanzarote and 4th in Playa Blanca, which is our favourite resort. The hotel itself is in a great location on the marina and price wise it looks attractive in the brochure / internet. Infrastructure wise it is 5*, but service wise it's nearer a 3*. Wow! This hotel is amazing from the minute you walk in the awesome lobby which looks and sounds like a cathedral to the fantastic pool area. Do try the Japanese and Italian restaurants on site, it gets you away from the chaos of the main dining room. We booked a sea view which was a good move. As we were late arriving a cold buffet was waiting for us in our room. There isn't a mini bar, just a fridge but the prices are very reasonable. Would defiantly recommend.

The hotel staff are really good, friendly, if you request extra pillows as I do they are in your room within minuets, on running a shower the pressure seemed slow we reported it and maintenance attended straight away, water pressure good rest of holiday. We only stayed bed and breakfast this visit so only can comment on breakfast food and bar snacks, plenty of choice at breakfast, continental foods cold mea... Stayed for 1 week with my wife from 15th to 22nd Oct. The staff at reception were most welcoming and a refreshing cocktail was very much appreciated, Escorted to our room by the porter who was helpful with instructions as to accessing the various sections of the complex. As this was at 10.00 at night, signage appeared not to be visible. The room was very large with a great bed and pleasant seating area, bathroom again large but the bath / shower could do with an upgrade. That said, the toiletrie... Read more

Currently staying here in half term October 2016, we had booked the Club upgrade and were given a suite on arrival which is like a little stand alone house with huge patio, living room area and bathroom aswell as huge bed. The hotel is very clean and was very quiet other than you can hear people on the squash court early in the morning as it was below our suite. The free afternoon teas and cakes were great, free drinks from 6pm with nibbles was really good and the staff in the club area excellen... Read more

Exciting hotel. 248 rooms distributed over a good deal of space, and several floors on a unique spot overlooking the strait to and the island of Fuerteventura. Good starting point for beach trips to both the Playa Blanca and the Papageyo beaches. We stayed in a spacious club room with privileged pool access and 10% discount on food at the three hotel restaurants. Very clean, helpful staff. We especially liked the Italian restaurant Rubicon. Good salt water pools both in the club area and outside... Read more

Just returned from a stay over half term with my family. Firstly hotel is in a lovely location and its appearance is attractive . The buffet is terrible as with other reviews food is put out in whatever condition rather than having a little attention too care. For example at breakfast layers of bacon sitting on cold toast on a cold plate. Wasn't been kept warm. Also fried eggs piled up on a cold chipped plate. A lot of the food heaters don't appear too be actually working cold pancakes and waff... Read more

This hotel was beyond my expectations. I upgraded to the club, and was given a suite with fabulous views. I was aware a pillow service was available but when I mentioned I found the bed very hard, it was sorted immediately with a really soft topper. Breakfast was amazing, you could order off the menue which was freshly cooked with lovely fresh coffee. Later in the morning the staff came around with fresh fruit skewers, a nice touch. Tea was served in the afternoon with pastries, muffins and ... Read more

This year we asked for a room with no steps or stairs. We were given 207 and our daughter and her husband had 206. This worked really well for us as the two of us have mobility problems and use mobility scooters. These rooms were ideal and close to the upper pool and French restaurant. All the staff from previous years recognise us and make sure that all is well with us. This time we did not need the SOS lifeguards! They are always available and willing to help with any trips or falls over!! The... Read more

My husband and I stayed here for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were given a lovely room with a view of the pool, and a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine which was a nice touch. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice. The hotel and grounds are attractive, and the location next to the marina is ideal. I'm sure we'll be back.

This is a beautiful hotel. The pool area is wonderful, the water was a little chilly but once you get moving it was fine. Lovely and clean and staff work hard to keep it that way. Good coffee served by the pool. Several different restaurants on site which spoilt us for choice. Entertainment was very good though the area a little dark and small. Breakfast was excellent. Our room was beautiful with views to match. Staff were helpful and pleasant. We ordered a hire car through the hotel and got a l... Read more

The hotel is lovely and as we were in the Club it was really special. Really liked the Club service for breakfast , afternoon tea and evening drinks. Pool bar was OK, but was sandwich based, could have been a bit more varied but the sandwiches were very good. Balanese beds on the sunbathing area were a nice addition and we loved the Jacusi, pool was a bit cold for me, probably 23 degrees but that's just me. Plenty were happy to use it. We had half board in the buffet which was good, but it is ... Read more

Hotel Volcan is located in the middle of the Marina Rubicon, one of the nicest and quieter areas of Playa Blanca. First impressions of the hotel were very impressive as the reception is reached through a replica 16th century church with large candles and monastic music. The darkness compared to the glaring sunshine is almost eery, however any spookiness in our children (boy aged 8 and girl aged 12) quickly disappeared on entering the huge cylindrical dome covering four floors which is at the c... Well this is billed as a five star hotel and in some respects it is. However, despite the spacious and well appointed rooms it didn't meet my expectations. The pools were supposed to be "acclimatised" in November. If they were I couldn't tell. The rest of my family found them too cold to use. Having to go to a different lower, area to change our pool towels isn't a big deal but hardly five star service. You only got a new one if you could give a wet one in. The buffet food was plentiful but agai... Read more

Room overlooked the marina, was spacious, tidy and cleaned very regularly. We stayed half board and the breakfast buffet was amazing, everything you can think of including cava! This was our second visit to Hotel Volcan, but this time we had two friends with us. As last year, we booked into the adults only section and it is still the best adults only we have ever been to. The area is completely separate from the main hotel and can only be accessed with your room key. You have your own sun bathing area, swimming pool and bar as well as the restaurant which serves cook to order breakfast, as well as the very good buffet. Fitted in a cheeky week away before the winter started in the UK. We couldn't get into the hotel we originally tried to book as it was full so the travel agent recommended this one. It was an excellent choice and we will be returning here in favour of our original hotel. I won't name the other hotel as it wouldn't be fair but I liked this one so much better principally because it was so quiet but near to shops and bars if you wanted a stroll during the day or evening

Stayed at the Volcan for 11 nights at the end of September and really enjoyed our holiday. We stayed in a standard sea view room (321) overlooking the marina. The room was large and comfortable and had everything we needed. The sunsets from our balcony were amazing!! Went out every morning exploring the area and didn't have any problems locating sunbeds by the pool in the afternoon. The weather was perfect for both walking and relaxing in the sun. We had a very nice week in November here but I must point out that if you have mobility or sight issues like me, unless you can specify a room nearest to reception/restaurants it is not ideal. Last time we stayed in Playa Blanca we spent two weeks at the Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel. We enjoyed our stay but thought the hotel was nothing special and certainly over priced this year. Therefore we decided to book two weeks at the Volcan Hotel in November through Thomson Holidays. Check in was quick and efficient and a complimentary bucks fizz cocktail was provided. ... Read more

This was our second visit to the Volcan This time we chose to be in the adult only area called the club Volcan. Our room was very comfortable and the only disappointment was the view. Last time we stayed we had a beautiful view and a balcony which got the sun. The sun did not reach our our room at all this time and the view was all volcanic gravel and a fence. We could just see the tops of the boats in the marina. This rather spoilt sitting outside in the early evening which is something we enjo... Read more

Spacious, peaceful and relaxed surroundings. Lovely hotel in an excellent location adjacent to the marina. We stayed in the non club area of the hotel and had a lovely room, spotlessly clean and lots of space. The hotel activities during the daytime were informal and relaxed - anything from silk painting and oil painting to Pilates and aqua aerobics. A range of pools none of which seemed overly busy despite it being half term. Thank you Hotel Volcan for a super stay!

Stayed for 5 nights at the end of November. This is not your typical holiday hotel and it is lacking in atmosphere. The entrance to the reception is through an empty church and the actual reception is located in a huge dome which, from the outside has been fashioned in the shape of a volcano, which I personally think looks tacky. Celebrated my 30th birthday here. Never been to Lanzarote before, was a little nervous because of the nickname. It's fantastic. Fantastic staff and food. Room is spotless. Complimentary bottle of fizz appeared in the room on my birthday. Chuffed to pieces. If you are looking for loud and wild this isn't the place for you. We wanted relaxing, sun and shopping and that's what we got. I work in a hotel myself and cannot help but look for faults, cannot find any here. Definitely recommend
