WOW! There are so many nice things to say about this hotel that I simply don't know where to start. First of all, Santander has few 5 Star facilities. Hotel Real is the best in my opinion. It proved to be a wonderful hotel with a wonderful ambiance from its 100 year old elevator to the beautifully decorated rooms , facilities and dining areas. The staff was friendly and very accommodating towards our needs. On the flip side, some of our friends who traveled with us swear that they experience... Read more

Well worth getting a sea view. Lovely old style hotel. Breakfast very good. Dinner not so good, mains were acceptable but starters poor, and hardly any desserts. It's also a bit far from the town, taxis are very cheap though and it's in a nice area near good beaches.

We booked through bookings.com for a good price and looked forward to fabulous room, amazing views and relaxation in the hotel spa. Eurostar Real certainly delivered on the views, absolutely incredible views on a sunny day from our bedroom balcony. I would struggle to recommend the hotel if you were only offered a car-park view room. The rooms themselves were perfectly clean if a little jaded but beds comfortable and there was a very detailed option to ring reception for a choice of four diffe... Read more

Hotel staff very friendly and have good English. Old style hotel with lots of character and warmth. It is approx 400m from busy areas, so nice and quiet location to relax and enjoy the nice gardens Our room was overlooking the bay and views were stunning. Great to open the double door onto the balcony and let the fresh air in. Hotel was quiet mid week but very busy at weekend with weddings etc. As usual we never eat in hotel so cannot comment on food.

A elegant hotel with classic but enormous and very well isolated rooms . - Rooms view to the peninsula of the Magdalena. The attention of the personnel was perfect, very attentive and nice. We had a breakfast buffet in dining room with nice sourrondings, very complete and very well served. Very advisable

I've been going to the Real for years and never cease to amaze me what gorgeous hotel and beautiful location but the best are the sweet, kind and professional staff that will do anything to make your stay so wonderful!!! I spend a night here before catching a morning fly. The hotel is elegant, full of style and character. It has good facilities and friendly atmosphere in a secluded and quiet location in the city. Small car park in the front but plenty unmarked parking spaces around. You may need the car or take a taxi to move from there but with time there is a decent 15 or 20 minutes walk to the seafront or the town center. The room was clean, not too spacious and a bit outdated for my liking, I do not conside... Read more

This is a very traditional hotel standing in its own grounds looking resplendent and imposing. It is close to the ferries about 3kilometers. It's services are first class and cannot be faulted. Dinner and breakfast were excellent both with first class service.

We had a wonderful stay at this classic hotel. Beautiful architecture, well maintained. Great service, nice bedrooms. It has several rooms to spend time enjoying the views and hotel. The breakfast area is beautiful, overlooking a beautiful rose garden.

We stayed for one night to rest and be close to the ferry for our home journey. The hotel building is quite grand, and has a good standard of decor and furnishings, but could risk slipping into faded grandeur if the owners do not keep up their efforts to maintain the interior. We had a pleasant suite, with a private balcony, with great views of the sea and mountains. The bathroom was a little dated with a shower integrated into the bath. We had dinner in the restaurant, and had a couple of issue... Read more

This is a well preserved building with its almost 100 old lift, which is beautiful. We loved our stay, even though its a little out of the way. The staff is attentive and very professional, we must name Ms. Asuncion Verdejo, which we found everywhere, the breakfast and at the bar. We needed a bag of ice for my knee and she sent it up to my room in a silver tray.... Amazing views, the rooms are large and furniture a little dated. The bathrooms need to be redone. Breakfast was great. many selec... Read more

I enjoyed the Hotel., It is not fully modern, but has everything you want. Great view of the beach from a distance, generally centrally located. Has an outstanding parlor, restaurant and excellent patio to relax. Rooms are spacey and windows can be opened. You appreciate what it would be like 50 years ago. Also close dirve to Altimira Caves and Santillana Del Mar. Great end of a trip up North where you can drive to Madrid in about 4 hours.

We booked Hotel Real after researching hotels close to the port, pet friendly and had an outside car park. I was travelling with my 2 Children and our puppy. I was concerned about security and ultimately our safety. We were travelling from Portsmouth to Santander for the first time. The directions to the hotel from the port were not great and we got very lost. However when we finally found the hotel an hour and a half later it was worth the wait. ( it is only a 10 minute drive from the port) Th... Read more

The Hotel Real is a firm favourite of ours. We always stay there the night before catching the ferry from Santander to Portsmouth. OK, it's a bit outdated now and could certainly do with refurbishment - i.e.. pink toilets and washbasins, patterned bedspreads and carpets - but generally the hotel does retain some of the opulence of its past. The service is superb from the welcome at reception through to the waiting staff in the restaurant. We will always stay there whilst we travel to and from Sa... Read more

Simply top draw. Go the extra and pay for a sea view. We should probably have had enough of the sea after a 24 hours crossing from the UK, but the view from the balcony across the bay to the mountains beyond was glorious. The setting is superb, the staff were very attentive (even though my wife and I were in bike gear), and we loved the "old world" class which this establishment has by the bucket-load. As for the slightly more subjective part of the review, the hotel was approx 10 minutes fr... Read more

Arrived Santander later than scheduled 18:15 and this traditional hotel was ideally located for a short journey from the port to park, check in and have an excellent meal for ten of us before turning in for the night. Breakfast was located in a different room with beautiful gardens all around. Would use again for first night on next trip to Santander by ferry.

When you first enter the hotel, it feels like you've stepped back in time. The keys and keychains are huge and heavy, and it's recommended you return your key to the front desk each time you leave the hotel (it's one of the rare hotels that use real keys nowadays, quite charming). The older elevator/lift is a lot of fun to ride ?? when it arrives you must open two sets of doors to get in, and open two sets of doors to get it. The outdoor patio in the back of the hotel is absolutely beautiful... Read more

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Though we often drove to most locations, we did walk to the casino and restaurants (12 minutes) and the Palacio de la Magdalena (20 minutes) from the hotel. Our corner room provided gorgeous views from both the main room and bathroom. The staff was also very welcoming. Highly recommended!

We booked 5 days in August 2016 for a family stay in the hotel. For 300 euros per night without breakfast, I was expecting more from a 5 star hotel. Maybe it was charming and a good hotel 25 years ago, but it is no longer the case. Not well maintained, old style and equipment, bathroom with leaks in the ceiling and not even amenities such as conditioner or body milk, old shower not working well, poor service (when we arrived triple room was not prepared, a bed and toewls for 3rd guest missing...... First time in a 5 star. everything you would expect! An older building so not everything is pristine but very stylish and spacious. Near to the beach and within easy reach of the town and restaurants. Our room had a stunning view of the sea which was an unpaid upgrade. Wi fi connection however was poor on lap tops and phones and we were a little disappointed that inspite of the cost breakfast was not included.

Lovely hotel, a bit worn around the edges, but this only adds to its charm. Breakfast was good, lots of choice. Room service and lunch time menu on terrace not so good. Very average, not what one would expect from a five star establishment. Cannot comment on dinner, as we ate out. Room was decorated tastefully and spacious. Fantastic view overlooking the bay. In Santander on vacation for a few days, we chose what is considered the best hotel in town. It was a great experience. It is very old school from all viewpoints--including its clientele, made especially of elderly Spanish or British couples. The staff uniforms are old school and so are the aperitifs, the garden, the reception, and the elevators. Cantabria is not yet a big tourist destination, at least not outside Spain. Brits come because the ferry from the UK arrives there. This outsider quali... Read more

Very spacious room with excellent en suite. Mainly Spanish guests. Impressive breakfast buffet, good bar with a good selection of snacks. Very helpful and cheerful staff. Hotel stay was the highlight of the holiday. Santander is a very busy modern town, the green hills rolling to the sea are much devoleped and road traffic is quite heavy. General standard of driving is very good. Ferry cabins have narrowish bunks with hard mattresses. Food on board is very good with foul coffee.
