This is a classic boutique hotel with modern amenities and rooms. While the hotel itself is older, complete with old fashioned keys that you leave at the desk, the rooms have modern furniture and creature comforts like central air conditioning. At check in, we were offered a glass of cava. Each evening after turn down service, there was a pleasant surprise like a bottle of cava or fresh fruit. One evening, the concierge invited us to enjoy tapas in their garden. The food was awesome, some of th... Read more

The staff did everything to make our stay comfortable and welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. Lovely room, overlooking the shady garden and delicious food added to the whole experience. One evening included complementary tapas, which was just what we needed after a long day exploring! Kirker recommended this hotel and it exceeded our expectations. In a quiet part of the city but within walking distance of all the sites, it was a perfect spot to be.

I booked the Hotel Orfila for a family trip to Madrid, and cannot say enough good things about this wonderful boutique hotel. Great staff, excellent restaurant (even though it is quite a small hotel), perfect location that is close to key sites but in a residential neighborhood so very quiet at night, unlike the large hotels. We had a lovely suite that provided a comfortable place to rest in between forays out to museum and restaurants.

this June 2016 we spent 5 nights at the Hotel Orfila. It is a small jewel of a hotel with a wonderful garden where meals are served. The restaurant was great. The room (a junior suite) was large and well furnished in the antique style. But best of all were the staff who really went out of their way to make the trip enjoyable. The hotel is located one block from a subway station and a bus line that takes one directly down the dedicated bus lane to the three major museums on Paseo del Prado. Our ... Read more

The hotel is small but the staff is excellent and took incredible care of us. The hotel was also amazingly quiet for downtown Madrid....I will definitely stay again on a trip to Madrid. My only negative - I believe the gym/spa is being remodeled. We went to a gym in the neighborhood which was fine but would be inconvenient on a tight schedule.

Very well located, charming building, great service, good food. We had an upgrade and they gave us a room bigger than most of apartments in Madrid, full of natural light. Is a Relais Chateaux, meaning that the food is excellent, so it worth to have lunch or dinner at one of the most calm terraces of the city. The service is outstanding.

This is not a modern hotel, more like a luxurious mansion hotel. The service was impeccable, from arrival to departure. Room was very big, comfortable bed, air conditioning, great bathroom and amenities. Internet (free or charge) worked perfectly well. The breakfast was extraordinary, lot of choice, fantastic quality. If you can afford it, don't hesitate.

Our junior suite was incredibly spacious with a well-situated large bathroom and dressing room. The hotel staff is gracious, kind and helpful in making any plans in the area. Overall the hotel is lovely; however, we enjoy walking throughout the city and found the location to be a bit too far from everything. It was quite a long walk to the museums and another long walk in the opposite direction to the Plaza Mayor area - especially in the summer heat. The advantage to the distant location is... Read more

Our family stayed at this level hotel at the end of June. We have stayed a numerous R&C Properties, and found this one to have the following strong features. 1. Beautiful terrace area for breakfast and dinner. 2. Generous room size. 3. Friendly and helpful service. 4. Appreciated the little touches in the room, such as fruit, chocolates and lotions. 5. Great location. Close to major sites. 6. Dinner and wine were outstanding. We would stay here if and when we return to Madrid.

The location is within walking distance to the Prado Museum and the large city park. The staff were great with directions and maps. We opted to eat dinner at the hotel and were happy we did. We booked a 2 night stay on our first trip to Madrid solely based on this hotel being ranked no. 1 on TripAdvisor and we're happy we did! Very conveniently located - the airport was reasonably close and we easily took the train yo visit other areas or walked when we could. I've stayed at several Relais & Chateaux hotels during this trip, and while this one in central Madrid is nice, it's not worth its 5 stars. It's the little things: the place is cramped, the beds aren't supremely comfortable, the wait staff is inexperienced, their language skills aren't as complete as they should be, the toiletries provided are so-so, the shower is difficult to use, the planters aren't placed symmetrically, the outdoor terrace needs sweeping, and the breakfast buffet is limited.

The rooms are beautiful, ample with good furnitures, a king size bed with first class linen allows you to enjoy sleeping . Bathroom is also very nice. Front desk people are friendly and helpful. I enjoyed staying and for sure, next time I will stay there.

We were recently in Madrid (Oct 2016) and stayed for three nights. This is a very nice hotel, with clean quite, spacious and elegant rooms in an excellent location. The staff was very friendly and helpful - we will certainly come back there on our next occasion in Madrid

Highly recommended. I will stay at Hotel Orfila again next time I'm in Madrid. Why? Many reasons, often the little details were the ones I loved: * welcome cava by the terrace under canopy to shadow me from the sun's heat, overlooking the greenery for a relaxing view; * at reception when my conversation with the reception staff was interrupted by incoming rude guests, the staff stopped them and informed them that they were still assisting me; * the hotel manager giving a farewell letter in-... For my recent visit to Madrid, I planned to do what I always do when I'm visiting a city for the first time: stay at what my research leads me to believe is the best hotel in the city for my tastes and priorities. I'd fully expected that my choice would be a famous elegant hotel I'd known of for years; however, when I came across the Orfila in TripAdvisor, I looked into it further and changed my mind. I'm so glad I did! When I made my booking I had slight misgivings about whether the more lim... Read more

My wife and I recently spent five days in Madrid. It was our first visit to the city and we could not have picked a better hotel. The hotel is quite small and has all the charm you would want in a boutique hotel. The rooms are large and well appointed. It is an easy walk to the Madrid subway and only about a fifteen minute walk to the Prado yet the location is not in the midst of all the noise that can sometimes be annoying in a large city. Having said that, the absolute best part of this hotel ... Read more

We arrived on Friday for a long weekend and were greeted with smiles and a very warm welcome by reception staff. We were immediately taken to our room where everything was explained to us ( how to work the temperature control, jacuzzi bath, safe etc) and our bags arrived minutes later. The room was spacious, beautifully furnished, and overlooked the garden at the back of the hotel. The beds were uber comfortable and the bed linen was to die for, so soft, and the beds were changed every day, just... Read more

Quaint little property excellently located with superb personal service. Quality of restaurant, while good, could be further improved. Front desk, especially Marco extremely helpful with recommendations of things to do and places to dine.

The good points of this hotel are its location in a quiet street close to the Prado and other sites and the friendly staff and it was a nice touch to have fresh fruit and water made available in the room on arrival. The bedroom was a good size and the bed very large and comfortable. The breakfast room is not so large and so for an evening meal it feels a bit claustrophobic. I found the breakfast too expensive at â?¬33 each so try to get it included in your daily rate. On the first morning I ha... Read more

When travelling through Madrid on our tours of Spain, we usually stay outside the city. I have usually avoided the city, but this hotel has changed my mind! From the moment that we arrived until the moment we left, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We had asked about a taxi to Atocha in the evening to buy rail tickets (usually a horrendous experience) as our new credit card was not registered on the RENFE website. Not only did the receptionist try to online book us with a... Read more

Unfortunately we only stayed one night. We truly wish we could have stayed longer. We had a spacious room on the 4th floor facing the street. The street is very small and quiet. The staff were very helpful. We arrived in the late morning, well before normal check in time, but we only had to wait a few minutes for our room. We asked for a late check out and it was no problem. The location is very convenient, near the metro, and only a few minutes walk from many attractions. Without a doubt one of... Read more

We came for our first visit to Madrid, and we're immediately made very welcome by the Hotel Orfila's staff. The whole place is elegant and very comfortable and well maintained. The staff are all very helpful and the hotel is well placed in a quiet street just back from a main road in a good part of Madrid. It is in easy walking distance from the main shops, galleries and parks. We would highly recommend a stay here.

Excellent hotel, very conveniently located in the center of the city not far from all the places we wanted to visit. Peaceful and very nicely decorated. Staff was warm and efficient. Food was just excellent (light and organic breakfast with tipical spanish dishes and refined diner). Room was spacious and nicely decorated.

What a great way to end a trip to Spain. To me a hotel is normally just a place to stay, but hotel orfila is more than just a place ..... The staff does everything with much attention to detail that it makes you feel cared for and special. Jose Martin-Sanchez, the evening manager was attentive and helpful in every way. Our room is surprisinly spacious, elegantly decorated and well appointed. Excellent!!!!! Will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Madrid.

We spent the last weekend at the Hotel Orfila with our baby daughter and we were all taken care very well! The food is high quality and the price is reasonable. The king bed is to die for :-) Last but not least the entire staff is very nice, welcoming and helpful. We would like to give a special recognition to the waiter from Marocco who served us at breakfast and at the Sunday brunch (apologies for not remembering his name). His smile and his service made our weekend even more special. Thanks! ... Read more

Very comfortable hotel, high level of friendly service, peaceful party of town, a little outside the central tourist area but still walking distance from all of the main sites of Madrid. Highly recommended. Its not cheap of course, but this level of quality and service cannot come cheap. The local area is more interesting than it appears at first, and well worth exploring.

My husband and I /steve thomas arrived straight from airport on Friday am/our room was ready and the most gracious staff served us coffee/pastries in the bar while paperwork was completed. They then took us up to a lovely room and gifted us with a bottle of bubbly as we were celebrating our anniversary. There was also another bottle of sherry in the refrig on the house. We slept for a few hours and then out to explore. The staff took so much time getting us oriented to the neighborhood, faci... Read more

We stayed here 3 nights in Madrid in November of 2016. After looking at many many hotels on trip advisor we decided on the Orfila and were not disappointed. The room was beautiful and big. Furniture in the room looked to antique or copies of classics. The room was clean. The staff was very helpful and always seemed happy to see and help guests. This hotel is slightly outside the center of things in Madrid and this is ok. It sits on a quiet street and is a 5 minute walk from the metro stop. Easy... Read more

All staff went out of their way to help us from suggesting restaurants, tourist must dos etc. Hotel is located a short walk from the metro, some of the tourist attractions and excellent restaurants. I would agree that the breakfast was pricey but excellent and did mention it to the manager. However, after reading trip advisor before we visited we did head out for breakfast the firs... Read more
