We had a generally good experience here. The 'Gin club' bar is excellent, with really great staff. However, on arrival at the hotel we were told their standard room is a twin, not the Queen we had booked and we would have to have a twin. They managed to swop us to a room to give us the double bed very quickly. When I asked what time breakfast was they said we had 'not booked'?! This is advertised as 'free breakfast' on trip advisor and needs to be removed. We found 'Mallorca' just up the road fo... Read more

Great location, very nice atmosphere and cozy, comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, good restaurant and friendly, efficient service. The best hotel in its price range in Madrid, I highly recommend it.

I stayed three nights with a friend - the hotel had been recommended by a friend well acquainted with Madrid. The situation in the Barrio Salamanca puts it into a wealthy area, and the hotel is well attended in the evenings by the well-to-do locals. The breakfast is magnificent, and the dining excellent, though somewhat late for us middle-Europeans. The furnishings are turn of the 20thC but none the less comfortable- even luxurious. Our rooms had a separate sitting room, a large en suite ba... Read more

Week end with a friend just to go to the theater to see Barisnikov in a play. Arrived late but received fantastically. Very well situated and conserved. We think we are years back but with all the modernity needed. Amazing the staff. Great the drinks at the bar. Location the best in barrio Salamanca where you can go walking almost everywhere.

Although the hotel could be better kept, the location couldn't be better. The staff is nice and helpful and most of the rooms particularly the suites are rather large and not so expensive. A confutable place to explore the city at reasonable prices. The buffet breakfast is very generous.

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and had such a wonderful experience. We happily recommend Gran Hotel Velazquez. First of all, the location is perfect. Its in Salamanca which is probably the nicest neighborhood in Madrid. All the ultra high end shopping is in Salamanca as well as fine dining and delightful sidewalk cafes. The hotel is right in the middle of it all. Plus, its just a few blocks from the Retiro which is easily the nicest city park in any city my wife or I have ever ... Read more

This hotel is mediocre. The location is okay, but may rooms have only a small window facing a small internal air vent. There is air conditioning noise from that, so keeping windows open is not very pleasant. There is hardly any light b/c the window is small and opens into a cylinder. The building had been grand in the past, which is or of charming, but it's not in the best shape now. Probably the biggest disappointment though is that the staff are also not friendly. I arrived in the morn... Read more

This hotel is exceptional, without a doubt. It is Madrid landmark This was the first time I actually stayed at the Grand V and it was because I had overnight flight and wanted to be in area with great restaurants The 101 room was a lovely, big room with good size bathroom service and attention to detail: they are definitely the best super hotel in Madrid given the prices

Although a good location this hotel needs a full refurbishment and 100% staff turnover. Old hotel, old staff, boring and depressive. Check in somewhere else please or you will be dissapointed. It is amazing how they can display themselves as a four star property. No english by the way.....

Outdated hotel, worn out towels, mildew smelly room, sheets with bad smell, bitter staff, specially Gemma who is one of the clerks, she is rude and not polite at all. There are much better options in Madrid, I would. Give them zero but the system do not allow it.

" nights business trip. Hotel was obviously full of charfacter or faded, depending upon your point of view. My room was OK, two beds, nice big shower room. Room itself was roomy - I was on 7th floor. STill had signs saying it was a smoking room, but I believe that is not allowed any more? In any case I didn't smell any evidence of smoking, if I had I would have demanded a move. Not much on TV, and no radio. Some colleagues complained of noise from generators etc. Others said rooms were a bit sta... Read more

We have visited this hotel several times. The hotel is in nice area. The staff is very formal, not so many smiles, but polite. Breakfast is good. Airconditioning was very good in our room. Near Plaza Colon where you can take the City tour bus (recommended), take the ticket for 2 days, so you can easily get to the other side of the town.

Very helpful staff. Had to change booking from a single room to a triple room during our stay due a change in circumstances. The hotel did the change without any problem and the difference in price was very little. Very central. Nice restaurants nearby. If I visit Madrid again, I'd happily stay at this hotel.

The BEST location in Madrid!! close to everything! museums, parks, restaurants, shops....! The hotel is old but is well mantained. The rooms are confortable, clean, well decorated. The only thing that I would suggest to fix would be that there is no Cable tv (only 7 or 8 domestic channels) just to make it a better experience, but with that location the time you spend in your room is minumum, so not a biggie!!!

English is not a fluent language of the staff generally speaking. Ok, we are in Spain. But when you reply on international trade I feel a little more effort should be made. When I phoned down to book a table for dinner the conversation was difficult. There was a full reception, I will call you back. I went to reception instead; no one in reception, I returned to my room; no call. So I went out. The rooms are looking a little dated, the one I was in was a little battered round the wall paper. Overall a very average hotel and expensive given the amenities. What your paying for is the location as very central to down town. Stayed in a room near the old and noisy elevator (ask for a room away from this before turning up). No air condition, I think they turn it off in October thinking it will be was very warm and therefore so was the room, room safe did not work, the shower gave you one !! the room looked like it could do with a complete renovation, the T... Good location with friendly , helpful staff the Gran Hotel is a very traditional hotel. Building has an imposing facade and inside you can tell that once upon a time this was quite the place to stay. Stayed 2 nights and room was spacious and comfortable with a few niggles: - chair for the desk was saggy and I had to use the spare pillow to be at the right height to work - hunted high and low for a plug to charge laptop , phone etc and ended up unplugging the desk lamp. No other option - toilet ... Read more
