We've been staying at the GHV for years, usually in August on our way back to the US. The location is ideal if you have to return a rental car to the airport--a straight shot, no complications. It's also great for moving around Madrid: a taxi stand right outside the font door and a metro stop only a short walk away. El barrio de Salamanca is a lovely area and it's always a pleasure to walk, shop, window shop, and take in meals or tapas at small neighborhood restaurants nearby. The surprise thi... Read more

I arrive after a 10 hour flight, I'm tired and it's really hot in the main lobby. The desk guy took like 30 minutes to give me my room, of course nobody helped me out with my luggage and I had to go up a lot of stairs with two big sized baggages. The room was small, old, the TV didn't work, the only good thing was the bathroom. The entire staff of the hotel was pretty rude too. The included breakfast was disgusting.

The location is very good. The bedroom was a junior suite, with a big bed. The value for price of this hotel is excellent. Both my family and I normally choose this hotel when travelling to madrid. ItĀ“s a classic.

Good location with friendly , helpful staff the Gran Hotel is a very traditional hotel. Building has an imposing facade and inside you can tell that once upon a time this was quite the place to stay. Stayed 2 nights and room was spacious and comfortable with a few niggles: - chair for the desk was saggy and I had to use the spare pillow to be at the right height to work - hunted high and low for a plug to charge laptop , phone etc and ended up unplugging the desk lamp. No other option - toilet ... Read more

Overall a very average hotel and expensive given the amenities. What your paying for is the location as very central to down town. Stayed in a room near the old and noisy elevator (ask for a room away from this before turning up). No air condition, I think they turn it off in October thinking it will be cold...wrong..it was very warm and therefore so was the room, room safe did not work, the shower gave you one option...hot !! the room looked like it could do with a complete renovation, the T... English is not a fluent language of the staff generally speaking. Ok, we are in Spain. But when you reply on international trade I feel a little more effort should be made. When I phoned down to book a table for dinner the conversation was difficult. There was a full reception, I will call you back. I went to reception instead; no one in reception, I returned to my room; no call. So I went out. The rooms are looking a little dated, the one I was in was a little battered round the wall paper. The... Read more

The BEST location in Madrid!! close to everything! museums, parks, restaurants, shops....! The hotel is old but is well mantained. The rooms are confortable, clean, well decorated. The only thing that I would suggest to fix would be that there is no Cable tv (only 7 or 8 domestic channels) just to make it a better experience, but with that location the time you spend in your room is minumum, so not a biggie!!!

When I arrived I didn't even get a good afternoon, they couldn't find my reservation for more than half an hour, even though I show them the email showing my reservation, I had to wait Hotel stairs uncomfortable you have to carry your luggage one floor up to find the elevator and not one offers help Hotel rooms are old, mattresses probably have not been change since the 80s, this morning I have a terrible backache Breakfast even though was big, eggs were cold and not if a good quality I will no...
