We spent four nights in February at this wonderful little hotel with the splendid location in the heart of Madrid. I loved the compact but modern, bright and very well designed room with the large windows that offered a good view of the square Plaza Santa Ana. We felt no need to use any transport (except for the taxi to the airport) because everything we wanted to see, like the Prado, castle, famous plazas and opera, was close enough and accessible on foot. The area around the hotel is great, re... Read more

With simply the best location at the corner of Plaza Santa Ana, in walking distance to everything, this boutique hotel made our stay very wonderful with their smiling, helpful attitude. There are only four floors so it feels cozy, with the best rooms on the fourth floor to get above the street noise. Breakfast buffet was a bargain, with endless trips to the espresso machine and freshly squeezed OJ. Small complaint would be the late-night sounds coming from the outdoor cafes situated around the... The best thing was the location. Lots of trendy and great resturants and tapas bars within close walking distant. Plus you can walk to the Palace, Plaza Major, the Musuems, or Retiro park in just 15 minutes. If you opt for the buffet breakfast you won't be sorry. It has loads of options plus the decor is fun and intimate. The rooms are a good size. The only minus which wasn't much, was that on the weekend the late night noise can bother your sleep. Using a white noise apt helped with the occasi... Read more

We stayed here in a duplex terrace room for festival weekend in Madrid with friends who had booked the other duplex. The hotel checkin process was dead easy, very friendly accommodating staff. The hotel doesn't have a fancy restaurant or bar - but with the plaza two steps away, you don't need them. The rooms were great, we stayed in 402 - which was a slightly smaller room but with a fantastic terrace and small pool. The pool could have done with a cover I think. Friends stayed in 401 which was a... Read more

Room Mate hotel in great location near major art museums, on a square with lots of good places to eat. Our room was light and comfortable. The staff are very helpful with getting tickets, suggesting restaurants, helping with unexpected things like needing a pharmacy on Sunday morning. Pedro, who checked us in, was very kind when my husband became sick, even microwaving soup for him. He is a great role model for providing customers with an exceptional experience! We will look for Room Mate where... Read more

stay for weekend in Madrid after a business trip. I choose this hotel because of the position in the city. We had a suite with a huge balcony also with a little pool. Very nice and we felt like home after the first minute. Especially after a couple days in a business hotel it was a great change. Jose and the whole team gave as very comfortable stay and if we come back we will come back to this hotel for sure

The hotel is ideally situated, a few yards from the Santa Ana Square with its many tapas bars and restaurants and near by flamenco bars. Given that Madrid can be very noisy - and our stay co-incided with a major foot ball fixture and a concert featuring Bruce Springsteen- our comfortable room was blissfully quiet. The central heating/air conditioning worked beautifully and was easy to adjust. And the room had been designed and furnished by someone with visual flair. The staff were fluent in ... Read more

To start with the positive, the staff are great at the hotel and the hotel is well located but...... Having stayed at Room Mate hotels in both Spain and Holland I had high expectations. Sadly Room Mate Alicia didn't match up. Maybe I was unlucky but my room was small and dreary and in need of re-decoration. I have no idea why a hotel would use roller blinds which were virtually impossible to roll down. Even with the benefit of a discount, there are better hotels in Madrid at the same price. Sadl... After a long flight from San Francisco, Hotel Alicia was just perfect. The cab driver knew exactly where it was (about 25eu from airport but worth it!). Warm reception followed by soothingly comfortable bed in a mid-size uper stylish retro-modern deco room overlooking the Plaza. The receptionist pointed us to a small market where we could grab some wine/cheese/bread. There is a table ledge running along the backside of the bed so when you've recovered from your flight, you can drink wine in bed ... Read more

Don't stay here if you want an early night. Noise from the plaza kept us awake til 4 in the morning on 2nd floor. No privacy as bathroom is in bedroom. Basic accommodation. Carpets need cleaning. Good value breakfasts.

This small quiet hotel is conveniently. located near the Plaza Santa Anna. Ours was a comfortable room with a spacious terrace, but this comes at a cost premium. Free Wifi. Great location near centre of Madrid. Plaza Sol and Plaza Major and the Prado are all within walking distance. The bathroom was a litttle cramped and the water temp difficult to regulate. Staff are pleasant and helpful.

As always a boutique hotel offers everything that you 'need' without services and areas that you pay for but do not need. The rooms are comfortable but quirky, the bathroom is not separated by an actual wall although the toilet hides behind a serviceable mirrored door. Air conditioning for each room, and outer rooms have views. The staff very friendly and helpful and courteous at all times. I would definitely return to Hotel Room Mate Alicia.

Stayed here for a short weekend break and would highly recommend. Was a little worried with a couple of reviews stating the hotel was shabby but this was not my experience. The room had an amazing view over looking the square and amazing black out blind for a lazy sleep in? This was great as breakfast was served to 12pm so no need to rush up after a late night. Had to stay in Room Mate Alicia as an emergency for a night. Apart from the location it doesn't have a lot going on for it. The suite i stayed in had a really cheap, put together in a day sort of feel to it. Painting not done properly, very uncomfortable bed and way too strong air con. On the other hand it was very cheap for a suite so i guess you get what you pay for. Would i go back? No. Should you stay on a budget or as an emergency? Yes.

Though it's a boutique hotel, you get all the great service you'd expect from a larger property. Our room was on the top floor with a private terrace. Other recent reviewers have said it all. This is a very well located hotel, well priced with good rooms and friendly staff. Ours was a return visit after having first stayed at the hotel two years ago. It's a testament that there has been no degradation in that time. We did notice a sign in the lift indicating that some "beauty treatment" was underway, a positive indication that the property's managers are not neglecting it. We would return for a third visit if in the vicinity again.
