This hotel is clean, centrally located, and welcoming of visitors. The staff is friendly and the rooms of adequate size. Some of the rooms have a balcony, such as room 509, while others have windows that open onto the plaza such as room 515. Despite the location of room 515, when the windows were closed, it was extremely quiet. Wake-up calls came at the right time and it was a human voice, not a mechanical recording. The breakfast buffet includes coffee, eggs, meat, cheese, bacon, sweet br... Read more

The absolute best location in town. A very short walking distance from the palace, museums, major shopping centers, and metro stations. The staff is lovely. I will definitely be returning to this hotel.

This is a great small hotel right in the heart of Madrid at Plaza del Sol. The location could not be better to see all of Madrid - within walking distance to all the main sights in the city We had a great stay, with only a couple of complaints. One was that our room overlooked a side street that must have been a collection point for trash as there was significant banging that woke us up more than once each night. Also the cups in the room for coffee service were plastic that looked like they... Read more

The hotel is extremely central, really it just borders the Plaza del Sol which is a super crowded place. That is so central, you can easily walk from here to many major sights like Prado. I got the tourist ticket for the metro but have not really used it. As I asked for a room not facing the street, it is sufficiently quiet. Otherwise I am sure it would be a nightmare. A pharmacy is directly next to the hotel and a huge store el corte de ingles is also very close which has food and everything i... Read more

A great hotel bargain in Madrid. Rooms are small but very clean with ensuite bathrooms. Breakfast is very good and the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is outstanding. Highly recommended, particularly for bargain-seeking travelers.

I loved this hotel! It's a few streets away from Plaza Mayor in one direction and Gran Via in the other. Palacio del Cibeles, Museo Thyssen, Museo del Prado, and Parque del Buen Retiro are all a short walk from the hotel, so it's perfect for exploring. Oh, and the hotel is right in Puerta del Sol so there are tons of shops, food, shows, etc outside your door and even more within a 2 minute walk. Now for the room. The bed was comfortable and the closet space was ample. There was an electric ket... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel has a fabulous location. Which must be it's main attraction. We have a 5th floor room with a balcony, which would be good good if you were visiting in the spring or summer. The room was small bit comfortably furnished & the bathroom was good. All in all I would recommend for a short break in Madrid.

We stayed in the Moderno twice: four nights on the second floor at the beginning of our two-week trip and two nights in a larger room on the seventh floor at the end of the trip. Both rooms were very quiet ‚?? no noise problems at all. The hotel arranged the reasonably-priced ride service from/to the airport on both occasions. Very helpful and responsive reception staff (they appeared to enjoy their jobs a lot!). Excellent maid service. Ample and varied breakfast. Get there early for their home... Read more

The most disappointed I had ever been from a European hotel In short ‚?? Pro Comfortable bad Good location Helpful staff Noise proof doors Con Tiny hotel, crowded corridors, the room is so small it was impossible to leave the mid size suitcase open. Damp corridors, sometimes the light sensors failed to work. Bad smell in the room & bathroom (stench of urine, even after a the cleaning lady supposedly cleaned) Poor maintenance ‚?? Some tiles cracks, bloated parquet flooring, Liquid Soap cont... Read more

Central location close to everything. A few steps out the front door and you are in the heart of Puerta del Sol. Very clean hotel, and excellent responsive staff. We had a "triple" room on 4th floor. Very very small elevators but nice stairway. We took advantage of the ride service to the airport and were picked up right at the door for a rate no more than cabs charge.
