Location, location and excellent staff are the reasons I would recommend this hotel. It is steps away from Puerta del Sol and the metro station. The exit closest to it from the metro is C.Mayor. When you are coming from the airport look for the sign that indicates these 2 streets. After you climb the steps out of the station, look towards the right and the sign for the hotel will be in front of you. The royal palace is at one end and the Prado museum is on the other end. In between you will find... Read more

Perfect little hotel right at the centre of Madrid. Hop on hop off bus stops right at the corner of the hotel. Close to everything, shops and restaurants. Front desk staff, Marta was helpful when there was a slight confusion with our pick-up of our tour. Air-conditioning could be cooler.

Just got back from several days in Madrid. Our room at Hotel Moderno was the perfect spot for us. We had room 601. It was a good size room by European standards with a big updated bathroom. the best part about this room was the unexpected, extremely large terrace with two large lounge chairs and a shade umbrella. Our terrace overlooked a little side street with a partial view of Puerto del Sol. Our room was clean and the bed was comfy. this room had plenty of storage and the bath had a vanity mi... Read more

My husband and I stayed in room 515. PROS: This is a nice hotel and in a nice location. You walk out of the hotel and you are right on the main Sol Plaza. The breakfast buffet has an arrange of food, pleasantly presented. The rooms are clean and tidy. Our room had a convenient closet with drawers. The windows are soundproof which is sweet, no noise seeps through, and they have blackout shades, makes your room dark. The hotel has an elevator too and it looks like it has been modernized. We relied on this hotel opposite the Sol metro station to provide accommodation for two families at short notice following being let down by our booked apartment. The staff were very helpful. The rate was very reasonable. The Moderno Hotel is stylish and comfortable. The hotel is perfectly located to explore the tapas and gastronomic delights of the Sol area and is only a few steps away from the metro line. Our stay in Madrid could have been a nightmare but we had a super time - their restaura... Read more

Usually when you have a hotel with this good of a location the room is the size of a postage stamp. Not here. We got a terrace room and we had so much space. The hotel is very modern and you can walk anywhere. It's steps from everywhere you could want to go. I coudn't imagine a hotel more centrally located!

Very clean with helpful, English speaking staff. Great location, Royal Palace, Cathedral and Opera house are an easy 10 minute walk. Prado is 15 minutes in the other direction. It is very close to shopping streets and squares, including Plaza Mayor, that are buzzing at night, bars, live music and restaurants. Discount at Plaza Mayor car park for hotel residents too. In spite of having a balcony onto the street we not disturbed by noise at night.

The room itself was a little outdated and needed freshening up. It was quite small but good enough to sleep in. The bathroom was small to but adequate. It was in a good location as we could walk to the old part as well down tot he palace area which was quieter. The bus stop for the hop on and hop off tourist bus was close by too.

We stayed 3 nights in July 2016. We had been to Madrid before and this hotel cost slightly less than the one we had stayed at previously, but there was no discernible difference in the quality. We had a nice, clean, air conditioned room, with a little balcony just big enough to stand outside for a breath of fresh air. The bed was comfortable and there was a good sized bathroom with a reasonable shower over the bath. There was no fridge in the room which would have been the only extra thing I wou... Read more

Pros: 1. Next to a metro station. 2. Great air conditioning. 3. At night the plaza was loud but the rooms weren't. 4. Restaurants and attractions nearby. 5. Good breakfast buffet. 6. El Corte Ingles only a few blocks away. Kind of a Macys with supermarket in the basement. Great prices on snacks and drinks. Cons: 1. Small rooms with minimal furniture. 2. No pool. 3. Small elevators. 4. No English speaking TV stations.

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located right in the center of town making it easy to get to all of the museums and the royal palace in a short walk. Breakfast was great with a hot food choice and several breads and fruit. The room was quiet and air conditioning worked well. Wil be staying there again on our return to Madrid.

We were 3 people: my husband, my son (17) and myself. We spent two nights at this hotel and had everything we needed. People at the front desk were very welcoming and helpful answering questions. Visiting Madrid means lots of walking and it was very useful to be so close to everything you want to visit.. I personally loved the huge bathroom!

We were somewhat at the mercy of our travel agent European Destinations. OK let me get my complaint out of the way the room was a little small, now on to why Hotel Moderno was great. We arrived around 10AM and our room was ready for us none of the usual room will be available at 4PM nonsense. We were able to unpack and get to a church service a couple blocks down the street since it was Sunday morning in Madrid. We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Moderno in late September. The first double room we were offered seemed a bit small, but we asked if there was another and we were shown a similar room (#519) that was a similar layout, but appeared much brighter and slightly larger. The mattress was a bit on the hard side and I found the four large pillows to be hard. Unfortunately, it was until the next to last day that it dawned on me to ask if there were softer pillows. One appeared and it was perfect. My bad... Read more

We assumed that a hotel on one of the main plazas of Madrid would be no problem for my wife's travel scooter to access. Imagine our surprise when we found a step into the lobby, with nary a portable ramp to be found. Other than that it was a good choice, though midnight (and way beyond) revellers did contribute to ambient noise. Hint to hotel staff. You can get a simple portable ramp plate from Amazon for under 100USD.

We stayed here for a couple nights. We were on the 2nd floor and could hear the noise from what we thing was the Metro/Renfe trains constantly. Maybe this would not be an issue higher up. Also, our room faces a store with a LED sign that was on all night and lots of noise from the street as well. Hotel staff were friendly, and the hotel was very clean and modern, with new elevators and a nice lounge. But we would not stay there again due to the noise.

This hotel is right off of Plaza del Sol, which is kind of the thick of things for tourism in Madrid. For example: the walking tour I took started there and the bike tour started very nearby. My bed was literally 2 inches from the elevator shaft. The noise lasted all day and until the wee hours of the morning. Also there is little to no soundproofing between the rooms - for example I could hear the child in the room upstairs getting a bath by the parent(s). Being on the courtyard side of the building at least I didn't have street noise to deal with, but the room to room noise level and that elevator shaft were complete deal breakers.
