A first trip to Madrid. Booked the ME based upon its reviews elsewhere. It was a perfect base for exploring Madrid - especially by bicycle. The hybrid bikes are great fun with a burst of electric power when you need it. The hotel is functional, the welcome was warm. We had a chocolate dessert and a bottle of cava chilling waiting in our Energy Room. We never ate there apart a room service dessert delivery following a less than satisfying meal somewhere else. Reception: lines too long and front desk staff harried at check in...but once it was our turn, they were extremely lovely, kind, full of smiles and helpfulness. They upgraded our suite and threw in a welcome bottle of cava which was a lovely touch. Elevators: ridiculously slow and small for such a posh place Room: Suite. The night time noise from the roof top bar is awful, as the very loud music continues until 1:30 AM most nights. Ask for a quiet room, which worked in my case. The people at the desk found me a quiet room after 11 PM when I couldn't sleep because of the throbbing rap music. It was the decibel level that got me, not the type of music.
