Personally I like places like this, a hotel turned former monastery. Lots of things to explore, many details in decoration, somebody really took care for keeping the historic touch. Basically the general rating considering breakfast, rooms, parking, staff, etc. is 4 but this effort is worth a top rating. Not so easy to find by the way. The old part of El Puerto is an array of small streets not really built for larger cars. Some excellent seafood restaurants and bars are in walking distance. On w... Read more

A fantastic place to stay right in the middle of the town, large rooms and bathroom with a great supply of bath and shower supplies. This hotel is as you might imagine located in an old monaseary, and has been frequented over the years by various dignitaries. The beds were very comfortable and the internet service excellent. Parking on site is 13 Euros but a couple of hundred metres toward town, you can park in the municipal underground parking lot for under 4 Euros for 24 hours ?? you mig... Read more

This is a lovely hotel, with great public rooms and bedrooms, and in a wonderful location being close to shops bars and restaurants but far enough away so that noise is not a problem. But we had a problem connecting with the internet both in our room and in their public rooms, which drove us to distraction. Also I dislike having hot drinks for breakfast from a machine. Without these issues our stay would have been perfect.

We, a couple of two, stayed three nights in this beautiful building full of nooks and crannies. Our room in the second floor was looking into the inner yard with the pool (see view from the balcony). The room was clean and spacious, reading lamps were bright enough. The free WiFi was working sufficiently fast for downloading my newspaper in less than a minute. The food in the hotel restaurant Las Bovedas was fine, the "Solomillo de Ternera Braseado" (braised veal sirloin steak) was excellent. B... Read more

Very nice looking and historic hotel. We had a fantastic lunch at the Don Pepe. Great selection of wines and sherry Which you can expect in here's de la frontera. Definitely will return and try relaxing dinner the next time we are in town. Highly recommended

This is a fantastic hotel - loads of character and comfortable too. A great location for exploring the surrounding area. The rooms are spacious spotlessly clean and well appointed. Spend a little extra and get one with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool, which is a very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon. We love it

Wonderful conversion of a monastery, great desk staff, cafeteria and restaurant, lovely swimming pool, but someone must have asked the former religious order what kind of mattresses they should buy ,, because I do not think either nun nor monk could have found any harder for sleeping.Suggestion of room overlooking garden and pool was excellent, Staff offered to move us to another room, but the beds were just as hard so we stayed put.Hope that they invest in up grades of beds as everything else w... The hotel was nice, although it is old and in parts you can tell. The room was spacious for two. The water pressure was non existent in the shower. The wifi was terrible - dial up speed at times and non existent at others. Breakfast was good. Staff were helpful. There is an on site restaurant, although we never ate there. Plenty of good restaurants only a short walk away. Trying to find your room is like being in a labyrinth.

Fantastic, sympathetic conversion. Orange trees line the street outside. A lovely hotel. Short walk into town. Brilliant pool. Fantastic staff. Ticked all our boxes on food, drink, ambience, pool, location, rooms, facilities, wifi, bar prices, breakfast, guest mix. Wifi good, matresses a bit firm. Water pressures all good. We will return.

A sympathetically converted monastery so conveniently located with parking and huge swimming pool, excellent coffee shop but so unusual must have been difficult to apply a 'star rating' although the staff were five star! so pleased we stayed but, not sure if I would rush to return.

Being in an old monastery this hotel has a really nice character and much of its historic charm has been kept. The rooms are very spacious with really nice bathrooms. Probably the only downside is the rooms in which we stayed lacked much of a view and the TVs weren't great, but who goes on holiday to watch TV? Besides it gives you more of a reason to get out. Overall I would rate Hotel Monasterio very highly and would certainly recommend it.

The room was clean and the bathrrom had nothing to complain about. Although we stayed here during the high season we always found a place at the pool. The breakfast was okay but considering the fact that we are used to german breakfast we only went there three times during our one week stay. The distance to the beach is a bit to long to walk there everyday but the advantage is the close proximity to the old city center with the restaurants. The staff was really friendly and always tried to help ... Read more

Nice hotel with good air conditioning in the rooms. Not great check in procedure as they did seem surprised when guests arrive and struggled to get us two rooms together (in our case they failed). Also when booking in ask for your free safe key and passes to get towels for the pool as it was a little boring to find we had to return to ask for them, standing waiting behind other guests who had surprised the reception staff. Breakfast buffet is good and there are slight changes everyday. Smallish ... Read more

A beautiful building full of charm and history and has kept faith with its past life as a nunnery. The courtyard is a beautiful place to sit in the sunshine and enjoy a glass of chilled white wine (or whatever else takes your fancy). Room was basic but a good size. Noisy at night due to the lack of carpets in the corridor and Spanish guests who tend to eat dinner late and hence return late. Wifi was unreliable which is annoying if you are reliant on it to work as I was. Breakfast was good with a... Read more

We must have been given one of their worse rooms, a view onto a wall. From reception to the room was via long gloomy corridors, a fair old trek. Bathroom was good, TV very old, impossible to watch any of Rio. Wifi is either very slow or non existant, even though they say it is available throughout the hotel. Courtyard and pool area is nice.
