This is a nice hotel on a main boulevard in Barcelona. It is advertised as a 5 start, but that was most probably a decade ago. Rooms and facilities are 4 start and service 3.5 only. Service is functional, but not warm or caring. The outside German style beer-bar-terrace is nice, the in-lobby bar ok. I was pleasantly surprised to find the business center free, including printing, as this usually costs an arm and a leg when you need to print-out contracts etc. when on a business trip. The hotel bo... Read more

There are some good things and bad things about the Hotel Princesa Sofa. I thought the staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful and the room was fine, albeit with a charge for water that should ideally be complimentary. I was on a club level which would have been great for breakfast, except they conveniently don't open until 0800 every day, far past when I had to leave in the morning. Aside from that, I would have expected the lounge to offer some Mediterranean produce, olives, charcuterie, t... Read more

My colleagues and I stayed at Princesa Sofia for 4 nights over this week and we had a great experience on the Spanish culture, specially their cuisine. Thanks to friendly receptionist Corina Bondari and other staff whom have made our stay wonderful! I especially felt very taken care of as Corina will suggest awesome restaurant picks for us, show us the directions to the locations and call to make reservation for us. Thank you!

We had a club room for 3 nights on the 17th floor. Nice room, well appointed and kitted out with stunning views out over the city towards the Olympic marina. The hotel breakfast was average as was the offering in the lounge. Overall the lounge was good. Gary in the lounge was really helpful, but unfortunately he was only there when we checked in and out. Otherwise service was rather average I'm afraid. We would return but there are better options and we would probably choose something more in th... Read more

Stayed at this hotel during my sister's company convention and I must say I m quite impressed by their employees. Everyone is courteous, helpful and friendly especially to someone who is coming to spain for the 1st time. Please keep up the good work.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during May 2016 and very satisfied with their service and facilities. Staff were professional and efficient. Room was comfortable though they did not provide kettle for making coffee or tea ( thought most of the 5 stars hotels would have that). I especially loved the bed and pillows. Location was superb, walking distance to shoppings and restuarants.

Everything about this hotel was top class. The rooms were exquisite and the location is outstanding. The food was great and at the bar they make great Sangria! The hotel employees are the most accommodating to hotel guest. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Barcelona.

A wonderful hotel to stay in Barcelona. It is close to tram and metro stations but somewhat out of the busy and noisy part of the city. The room was big and well fitted out. The staff were professional and excellent. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a very wide variety of foods to choose from.

Picked this hotel because of business location and recommendation of the conference organizers and was very disappointed from the reviews it has on this site and the self claimed 5 star status. This hotel is extremely old, outdated and badly in need of refurbishment. The rooms are big but exceptionally old and dated and with no tea / coffee facilities and no complementary water. The gym, spa and pool is all under renovation - no notice was given on the website. There is a lot of noise from w... Read more

Having lived in this wonderful city for a decade I have seen this hotel grow past the wonderful Sunday afternoons where the local team celebrated their victories. This property gathers the high society of the city, business and pleasure. Great service from a wonderful team, great location where to walk to a mall, a great restaurant or even just relax at their Inhouse areas. Gym is ok, and I didn't visit the pool. Great job, see u soon!

I had another opportunity to stay at this lovely hotel. In some ways it's better than I remembered, in other ways not so good. Reception are multilingual, efficient and helpful. All the staff smile and are very welcoming which I really liked. The German beergarden round the side is great, if a tad expensive. The room was clean with a good view (8th floor) and had excellent air conditioning - which really was needed. Plus the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Also ve... Read more

My stay at this hotel began in a pleasant way with a warm welcome as Jonathan greeted me and did my checking-in efficiently. His great guest relations skills and pleasant demeanor are commendable. I soon found out that every other staff in this hotel ranging from Antonio the concierge, the wonderful people at the restaurant, till the checking out team at the reception, is also very friendly and hospitable. My wife and I were on our honeymoon. We were booked on a seven-day cruise; however, we wanted to spend a couple of days in Barcelona prior to sailing on the cruise. When our taxi arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by the very friendly doorman. Upon entry, we were impressed with the décor and cleanliness of the lobby and common areas. We were greeted by Jonethon (don??t know his last name). Jonethon was extremely friendly and provided us with a plethora of information on where to go and... Read more

My son and I were on our way home from the airport (he is 8yrs old) and since we still had the three hour drive up to Andorra (approx 3hrs on mountain roads) and I was quite tired after a long day of traveling, I decided to pull over to the first hotel we came past. As it turned out, it was the Gran Hotel Princesa Sofia, I had my dog with me as well,, but he is only a little fellow so it wasn´t a big deal, the hotel were really cool about him staying with me and from memory I think the surcharg... Staff is amazing and speaks multiple languages. Breakfast is amazing with a big variety of different food choices. The hotel club is great with snacks, drinks and wifi. The rooms are spacious and cleaning's great. You have a shopping centre close by but you might wanna take a taxi to Passeig de Grácia.

We spent a week in Barcelona on a football tour for my 12 year old son and chose Princesa Sofia principally because of its close location to the Nou Camp and to the games. We spent 1 week on the 18th floor with club room access. The lower floors of the hotel are being renovated but you would hardly know. The only impact was that the pool was out of use but there was reciprocal rights with an adjacent hotel. There is so much to do in Barca that we would not have used the pool, so it didn't affect... An older hotel which is undergoing very much needed renovations!! The pool was closed when we stayed, we were offered access to a local health club. The room was comfortable but not luxurious - it did not match a 5 star rating. The food was good. The service offered by the concierge was fantastic!! Help was offered when asked for, suggestions and recommendations were made and tickets were booked for various excursions with incredible ease!! This was the outstanding feature of the hotel.

We arrived in the middle of the night due to a problem with our original hotel, the night receptionist was cautious with us and didn't divulge a lot of information about the hotel to us; however, that was forgotten about once the day staff were on duty. We stayed on the 16th floor which provided access to 'The Club' ; however, unfortunately we didn't know about it until our last day but it was a memorable visit once we did! Although the hotel was being renovated when we arrived ( no pool) nonetheless this is one of the happiest stays ever. The hotel had several bars/ cafes/ restaurants but most of all it has FABULOUS people running it. Carlos Guerrero in reception started this off by welcoming us so well, enabling an upgrade to a suite (1614) with membership of the Club ( very well worth the price increment with tapas breakfast snacks and drinks all day long in calm cool comfort ). Myself and my 2 sons stayed at the Princesa Sofia for 4 nights as we were watching an FC Barcelona match at Camp Nou for a birthday treat. The staff were very attentive - particularly Tiago on the front desk who, with the other staff, made our stay a memorable one. Great breakfast (again, attentive staff) and very comfortable room. Whilst not right in town, very handy for Camp Nou (5-10 min walk), the Metro is 5 mins walk away plus close to shops.

We were on a family-business trip. The hotel is situated in a position that is extremely difficult to get to if you plan to drive - leave it to the taxi people. The location is surrounded by walking distance to restaurants and shops. The room is tiny. Bathroom is tiny. Nothing special for 300 Eu/night. The breakfast buffet is the only best meal of the restaurant. The staff and service are good. Really nothing to write home about except that it serves its purpose for business trips.

I traveled to Barcelona on a business trip and stayed in Princesa Sofia for just over a week. I have stayed in many star hotels around the world and there is nothing special about this hotel, except for the breakfast spread which was fab. Rooms and bathroom are small for a star hotel. I have never had a hotel more thoroughly cleaned than I did at this hotel. The entire staff was lovely and the room small but very comfortable. While it is billed as a five star hotel (and perhaps it was in the sixties) it is probably more along the lines of a 3.5. The furniture is worn and the decor needs updating. Nonetheless, it was well-priced and we enjoyed our stay very much. It is close to three stops on the Hop On Hop Off Blue bus and we were actually able to use our passes as our t... Read more
