This was my fifth stay in this hotel. And for me it's still quality: reception, service, breakfast, spa facilities, etc. Good location on Las Ramblas, near all transports and a lot of shops and lovely restaurants.

We met with a group of friends pre-cruise in the bar (it was raining so we couldn't do the rooftop). They treated all of us so well - put put snacks and the service was excellent. There were 30-40 people in our group and they managed it flawlessly. Our friends who stayed there raved about it!

Great central location. Minutes from Barcelona Cathedral. Check in was very efficient and all the staff were very helpful. Despite other comments I thought it was a very quiet hotel. We did not really sample any of the amenities on offer as we were out exploring the amazing city from early until late. Did not really like the transparent shower in the middle of the open plan room but that is personal taste.

My Wife and I spent 2 nights We checked in at 1PM and were upgraded to a lovely room , unfortunately the room had a problem with the power and we were upgraded again to a room overlooking the Rambla ,this room was extremely noisy and we had requested when we made the booking for a quiet room . On contacting the reception we were moved again ,downgraded (room number 3 ) this room was on the inside courtyard ,quiet with doors that opened , the room had no view but was reasonably quiet and had the... We were so very happy to be staying at Hotel 1898. Reception was very smooth. Our room was a delight...very high celings, wood floors, excellent bedding etc.etc. The hotel has so much character and yet has all the modern necessities. The location is fantastic. You can walk the whole city. Many cafes right at your doorstep. Everyone behind the desk was so helpful with suggestions, directions etc. My husband and I hated to leave. Look no further...this is perfect!

We stayed five nights in room 530 / a terrace deluxe unit. Vivld, contrasting colors in the rooms and throughout the hotel work well and, along with the generous use of natural wood, provide a classy and classic home away from home. Location is perfect. When making the reservation we thought we'd use the terrace more than we did but, with direct afternoon sun and so much to do outside the hotel, it was rarely used. Staff was 5-star attentive and always helpful. It was a pleasure staying at Hotel... Read more

What makes Barcelona such a great city? The food, the people, the sights and a great hotel. We were fortunate enough to have Hotel 1898 recommended to us and so glad we stay ed there. Can't beat the location but more importantly were the staff (especially Monika). They could not have been more helpful! Truly one of the nicest hotels I have ever had the opportunity of staying in!

#H1898 makes #SetmanaTerrasses16 Barcelona a complete let down! We'd checked out the terrace hotels and the hotel that kept coming up was 1898; we're smart people, we head out there, only to be stopped dead in our tracks! We arrive at the hotel. We‚??re told there's no room on the terrace. We ask to just look. We‚??re told under no circumstance would we be allowed to just look. We use our puppy dog eyes. No luck, so we try reasoning--if two people come down can we go up? As it happens two peopl... Read more

We stayed here for a long weekend as a group of 10 women celebrating a friends birthday. Everything about it was perfect. The location right on Las Ramblas was ideal and we didn't find it too noisy at all. The rooftop bar and swimming pool was just what we needed escaping England's cold and rain ! We used these facilities a lot. Fabulous cocktails too ! Staff there were attentive and it was a lovely relaxing place with great views over the city. The Hotel 1898 is a beautiful modern style moderate sized hotel fitted into the old Phillipine Tobacco Company building (which is still proudly displayed on the original exterior masonary). The hotel has an older feel in the lobby with dark woods and classical furnishings. As you go further into the hotel you notice furnishings and ambiance become more modern, but dove tails nicely with the older feel of the lobby. Our room was modern but classy with a king bed and roomy marble bathroom with ... Read more

This review is JUST for the rooftop lounge. I didn't stay at the hotel. My sister and I stopped by the rooftop bar for drinks and some great views. This review is coming from the bottom of my empty, middle class, pocket...WOW this place is pricy. Drinks start at 10 euro. Food averages 15 euro... we had a drink each and a small dish and got out. Still, the drinks and food were very good and the terrace is amazing with breathtaking views. You can see the Sagrada! The only downside is the service.... Read more

Excellent in all respects. Director Cifuentes will guarantee your stay is pleasant. I travel Europe frequently. You won't find a better value or finer staff. Great location and a boutique setting. H1898 is the jewel of Barcelona. Upgrade your room from the basic if possible.

H1898 is perfectly located just off Las Rambla making it easy to get to the center or town or the waterfront. Everystaff member we met was both personable and professional. They have every amenity you could want, the roof-top restaurant/bar is a great way to start or end your day. The rooms are large and very clean!!

When we checked in and went to room, they sent a room service champagne & there was a beautiful note that says welcome to our hotel Mr&Mrs hope you'll enjoy it... This is a superb hotel and not to be missed. Anyone who goes to Barcelona should at least spend one night staying in this hotel. The rooms are clean, and the reception has an impressive ambience. Conveniently located at the heart of the Rambla, the Bucchero Food Market is just 2 minutes walking distance. The streets are crazy still late nights and this hotel is just opposite to Le Maridien. The indoor and outdoor swimming pool at the basement and the roof top respectively are not to be missed. ... Read more

Best part is the roof deck with heated pool and I mean heated, even in March! It was like a bathtub in there, so relaxing. Great to have drinks up on the roof relaxing in the sun after a morning of walking around and exploring. The rest of the hotel is great also, though. Rooms were very comfortable and the mini bar was well stocked. Front desk person gave us some nice recommendations on places to see and eat. The one downside is that roof drinks are expensive.

Stayed for four nights as a family and the hotel was the highlight of our trip to Barcelona. The deluxe rooms were very comfortable with efficient but quiet aircon. The location is wonderful and not that badly priced considering where it is. I had the cheese burger and it was one of the best I've had in a long time. We are a couple that stayed at the Hotel 1898 June 24-27, 2016 in Barcelona. This hotel is situated just off Las Ramblas, the busy pedestrian thoroughfare that links the Mediterranean shoreline with Catalonia square. I stayed here for a few days with a group of friends and you couldn't wish for a more central location in Barca. The hotel oozes old school charm with plush, cool, comfy bedrooms and grand public areas, bars and a modern roof terrace. Breakfast is extra special with an amazing selection of goodies to feast on. I don't recall the name to the restaurant next door but it was so good, we went twice! Rooftop pool was great on a hot day. I recently spent 3 nights is the Hotel 1898 before a cruise. I thought the hotel was wonderful and I would choose to stay there again. I especially liked a fully stocked grocery store less than half a block away for drinks, fresh fruit and snacks. The room was clean and the bathroom fresh and new. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Barcelona. The location is also convenient. Right in the middle of everything. .
