This was my fifth stay in this hotel. And for me it's still quality: reception, service, breakfast, spa facilities, etc. Good location on Las Ramblas, near all transports and a lot of shops and lovely restaurants.

We met with a group of friends pre-cruise in the bar (it was raining so we couldn't do the rooftop). They treated all of us so well - put put snacks and the service was excellent. There were 30-40 people in our group and they managed it flawlessly. Our friends who stayed there raved about it!

Great central location. Minutes from Barcelona Cathedral. Check in was very efficient and all the staff were very helpful. Despite other comments I thought it was a very quiet hotel. We did not really sample any of the amenities on offer as we were out exploring the amazing city from early until late. Did not really like the transparent shower in the middle of the open plan room but that is personal taste.

On contacting the reception we were moved again ,downgraded (room number 3 ) this room was on the inside courtyard ,quiet with doors that opened , the room had no view but was reasonably quiet and had the... We were so very happy to be staying at Hotel 1898. Reception was very smooth. Our room was a delight...very high celings, wood floors, excellent bedding etc.etc. The hotel has so much character and yet has all the modern necessities. The location is fantastic. You can walk the whole city. Many cafes right at your doorstep. Everyone behind the desk was so helpful with suggestions, directions etc. My husband and I hated to leave. Look no further...this is perfect!

We stayed five nights in room 530 / a terrace deluxe unit. Vivld, contrasting colors in the rooms and throughout the hotel work well and, along with the generous use of natural wood, provide a classy and classic home away from home. Location is perfect. When making the reservation we thought we'd use the terrace more than we did but, with direct afternoon sun and so much to do outside the hotel, it was rarely used. Staff was 5-star attentive and always helpful. It was a pleasure staying at Hotel... Read more

What makes Barcelona such a great city? The food, the people, the sights and a great hotel. We were fortunate enough to have Hotel 1898 recommended to us and so glad we stay ed there. Can't beat the location but more importantly were the staff (especially Monika). They could not have been more helpful! Truly one of the nicest hotels I have ever had the opportunity of staying in!

#H1898 makes #SetmanaTerrasses16 Barcelona a complete let down! We'd checked out the terrace hotels and the hotel that kept coming up was 1898; we're smart people, we head out there, only to be stopped dead in our tracks! We arrive at the hotel. We‚??re told there's no room on the terrace. We ask to just look. We‚??re told under no circumstance would we be allowed to just look. We use our puppy dog eyes. No luck, so we try reasoning--if two people come down can we go up? As it happens two peopl... Read more

The Hotel 1898 is a beautiful modern style moderate sized hotel fitted into the old Phillipine Tobacco Company building (which is still proudly displayed on the original exterior masonary). The hotel has an older feel in the lobby with dark woods and classical furnishings. As you go further into the hotel you notice furnishings and ambiance become more modern, but dove tails nicely with the older feel of the lobby. This review is coming from the bottom of my empty, middle class, pocket...WOW this place is pricy. Drinks start at 10 euro. Food averages 15 euro... we had a drink each and a small dish and got out. Best part is the roof deck with heated pool and I mean heated, even in March! It was like a bathtub in there, so relaxing. Great to have drinks up on the roof relaxing in the sun after a morning of walking around and exploring. The rest of the hotel is great also, though. Rooms were very comfortable and the mini bar was well stocked. Front desk person gave us some nice recommendations on places to see and eat. The one downside is that roof drinks are expensive.

I visited this hotel as part of a conference. It is a beautiful and luxury hotel right at the ramblas. The hotel as nice rooms and very tasty food at breakfast lunch and diner. Both the indoor and the rooftop outdoor swimming Pools are very nice. It is not a cheap hotel but it does have all the ingredi√ęnts. One remark, which seems to be more common in Barcelona: the smell of sewer, especially in the lower level areas.

This hotel is very charming and has a cool boutique hotel kind of a vibe combined with an historic feel. Loved the common rooms. We went in February, so although the weather wasn't incredibly cold, it was definitely not swimming weather. Our room was furnished very nicely. It was very, very small, but we have come to expect that in most European cities, and especially in the historic hotels we prefer. The issue with this room was that it faced an interior courtyard and was very, very dark. ... Read more

Fantastic hotel in a great location, Excellent service. Beautiful rooftop pool and bar with superior bar selections ( do not miss the white sangria) and delicious tapas. The hidden treasure is the cave pool. I could write volumes about the decor, front desk, and service staff, Instead I will say if you want to be pampered and impressed, Hotel 1898 is the place for you .

We enjoyed every bit of our stay and had great three days at this wonderful and very stylish and historic hotel! Our superior room on the fourth floor was lovely and well designed with its wooden floor and indeed very comfortable bed (to agree on what other visitors have already mentioned before). Even though the room faced a tiny Placa and street which was quite busy in the evening it wasn't at all a problem when the balcony door was shut. The bathroom was also very stylish and, even more impo... Read more

The staff are so friendly and attentive and went above and beyond. We stayed in a superior room, 343 overlooking La Rambla. The room was spacious and bright and the bed was huge and really comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and the over-bath shower was very powerful with plenty of hot water. My daughter and I just returned Saturday from a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is a lovely oasis on busy La Rambla that is centrally located and within walking distance of many sites. It is not often that I can say that I can think of nothing that a hotel could do to improve my experience there, but that was the case with this hotel. As soon as we stepped into the hotel each time from our daytime travels around the city, a feeling of relaxation and peace set in. I will say to those who are... Read more

I stayed here in May 2016, after finishing a cruise on the Carnival Vista and we stayed for 3 days to see the sights. We loved Barcelona! The hotel was close to the public trains, which were easy to use. We had the desk call a cab for the airport, but otherwise walked or took the trains around. We liked the restaurant on the street level, not a part of the hotel, which serves food all day and late into the night. We never tried room service.

We had a pretty nice room. Not very big but great sheets and pillows were reasonable. We asked for a quiet room and avoided the Ramblas side as a result. Unfortunately we were right by the maids' station, so each morning they were right outside the door at an early hour which woke us up. The tea in the room was awful partly because the milk is UHT and the other flavours you might drink without milk were awful. However there is a supermarket close by so you can fix that easily. My daughter and I took a five day break this June to Barcelona. We chose the Hotel 1898 for its great location and facilities and we were not disappointed. Our stay wasn't cheap, but it was very much worth paying a little more for the extra comfort and amenities. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant for one night and it was fabulous. Hotel 1898 is excellently located just off the hugely busy Ramblas. It reflects a calm amid the madness outside. Its promotion of luxury is one of heavy wooden excess with an accent colour of black. There is a seriously curious smell in the vast reception area; not musty, not tobacco but perhaps an artificial concoction of both. The receptionist was pleasant and welcoming but blinded us with too many options about where best to eat.. The bedroom reflected the masculinity of the hotel but the b... Read more

We visited Hotel 1898 for a short mini-break and would highly recommend it to anyone. We considered upgrading our room upon arrival, but the standard room was great. It was reasonably large with a spacious bathroom and good wardrobe space. The standard rooms are inward facing, but there is natural light coming in through a window at the top of the closed courtyard. We stayed here for 4 nights in September 2016. The hotel is in a central location on the VERY busy (and NOISY) La Rambla. We had an issue with check-in that jaded the rest of our stay. We arrived at 1:30pm (Note that check-in is 3:00pm) and our room was not ready (not a problem). This property was well situated on La Rambla just a couple of blocks south of the Catalunya Plaza. The hotel is very stylish and the staff very helpful. The pool is a great respite from the chaotic La Rambla below. The only issue we had involved housekeeping working until nearly midnight. While we understand that in Spain folk operate on a different schedule, we do not, and were awakened at 11:30 p.m. by the sounds of bottles being dumped into carts and the loud conversation of staff.

This Hotel is the one to stay in in Barca. Right in the middle of the action but still secluded. A must is the breakfast on the roof terrace, worth the money. The staff will also book any trips for you and the open top bus is great value for money. We had a 3 day stay which is just about right to see all the sights. We had the BEST stay here! Amazing location near all the perfect things and the main central area - Las Ramblas. Rooms just off the beaten path so there was no noise and the place is beautiful. The bartender downstairs, Arelian, helped us every single morning with our ideas and places to visit after making the best Americano/Coffee to kick off our day - I would definitely recommend staying here and this certainly is going to be where I stay during our next visit.
