When in Asia, I usually book at the Ascott, Somerset. The Palace in Seoul was a perfect fit for my family. The hotel offers roomy accommodations with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen lets us decide when we want to eat, and the washer, dryer keeps us ahead of the laundry while on the road. Breakfast is plentiful and a nice cross selection of Korean and American food. We are headed to the Somerset in Bangkok later this week.

If you like a firm mattress this is the place for you! The bed is like sleeping on concrete. Coupled with feather pillows it doesn't make for the most refreshing night sleep. Redeeming features area washing machine (important for the traveller spending many weeks abroad), the restaurant/bar downstairs which does a reasonably priced cocktail and has a beautiful deck overlooking gardens, and it's central location. Insadong is mere minutes walk and a fabulous place to shop and eat (I spent two da... Read more

This place is a classic example of how an otherwise overall positive stay can be affected by the actions of a staff or two. Positives first: Location - within walking distance to the mtr, Insadong and the palace. Very nice, peaceful area to be in. Rooms - simple, tasteful and above my expectations. The windows are huge so i got a great view of the city at night or if I was at the other side, great view of the mountains to wake up to. Clean and spacious. I could literally do some yoga stretch... We found this hotel at Trip Advisor after a colleague recommended the location as being near to the main palaces of Seoul. Boy, was it ever near - we could see Gyeongbokgung Palace from our hotel window, while Changdeokgung Palace was within easy walking distance with Insadong in between. Fantastic location for sightseeing. The hotel room itself was spacious and clean - very good value for the price. The reception staff were friendly and spoke fluent English which was a big help for us with ... Read more

I stayed here on a business trip to Seoul. I was put up in this place for my short stay of 3 nights. Having previously stayed at the Lotte Hotel as well as the Pullman Ambassador, I was a bit disappointed upon arrival in the room. Everything is quite basic and standard. I guess, this is a good deal for longer stays as the rooms offer a full kitchen, as well as a washer and ironing board, but being there for just 3 nights was a little downer for me. That being said, the bed has an excellent mat... Read more

We stayed here 2 nights. Our room was on the 17th floor overlooking a temple that was decorated with paper lanterns for a festival. The room was spacious and included a small kitchen area. The bathroom was adequate. The shower head was tall enough for my 6' 1" height and there was enough counter space. The mattress was rather firm, but I didn't seem to have any trouble sleeping on it. The included breakfast buffet was OK. I didn't see anything there that you wouldn't see at an American/Bri... Read more

Highly recommend Somerset Palace, Seoul. Great position, great staff, large rooms. Our Deluxe studio had a double bed - not a queen size one. Good speed wi-fi in rooms for free. Breakfast was okay - a lot of Asian dishes.

My family of 4 adults and 1 child stayed in a 2 bedder at Somerset Palace and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. Even before the trip, staff were patient to answer my queries via email. I was given clear directions on how to take the airport shuttle to the hotel, and also I booked a car through the hotel as well for the return journey to the airport because my flight was early in the morning. The airport shuttle doesn't stop at the hotel but it does at Anguk station, which is wi... Read more

I usually prefer a full service hotel for the Concierge and other assets, but we enjoyed our stay here. The room was very large and featured a washer/dryer as well as a full kitchen. Furnishings are not new, but they are comfortable and attractive. Breakfast was mediocre and very very crowded, but still welcome. Do not miss the GORGEOUS roof-top garden and pool. It requires a climb up a staircase from the 18th floor, preferably with a bottle of wine in hand, but you are rewarded with cozy nooks ... Read more

Encountered rude staff when checking in at the hotel in June. She insisted that the standard checkin time is 3pm despite a 2pm standard checkin time stated in the voucher issued by the hotel website. I don't mind waiting but don't huff and puff and said 'who is this company, we have to report to this company that this info is wrong.' I have stayed at the Somerset Palace in Seoul three times and am planning to stay again. The apartment style rooms are comfortable and efficient. The hotel is close to the largest Buddhist Temple in the country and a short walk to InSaDong, the most popular artist's street. I love their roof garden with pool. Their breakfasts are excellent. The staff is friendly and well informed. It is an excellent place to stay.

We stayed at the Somerset for almost a week. We had a great time, and fully enjoyed our room. We got the studio suite, and booked through Trip Advisor. For less than $150 per night, we had a full size refrigerator, stove top, room with a nice view looking towards Insadong, a queen size bed and a couch. The bathroom was bigger than many hotel bathrooms. The room was easy to adjust temperatures, but a little tricky to fine tune for night. The breakfast is wonderful, but there are some things that ... I can honesty say that the staff of the Somerset is OUTSTANDING! from the front desk staff to the housekeeping, bellman, concierge. The very best. Breakfast is included with every guest. There is a washer/dryer in the room and a kitchenette. I used the washer/dryer but my dad sent his laundry service. The room is large like that of American standard so easy to move about. Not only a fitness room but a separate room that offers mats and excersize balls, ropes etc,,,

I like the room well enough. We ordered a roll a way for my son and we were able to resonably move about with it in the room. We looked at a suite but it's still only had two beds and we will still need to get a rollaway, and you have to pay an additional $35 for the roller bed, so we just stayed where we were for an extra $35.

The idea for this residence was a great one. You have a small kitchenette which can come in handy if you spend lots of time in the room. It was not hypo-allergenic friendly. My allergies were extremely bad the first two days there. My husband asked that the filter to the AC be switched (of an AC unit that old has such a thing) and for the room to be thoroughly cleaned. I tried the AC the last night we were there of the 8 nights and it was much better. I didn't use it between the 2nd and 8th nigh... Read more

This hotel is the best of both worlds: the room of a full apartment -- and I mean FULL; ours was two bedrooms, two baths, about 100 sqm. -- and all the amenities of a fairly upscale hotel. There is a great pool on the roof with jacuzzis, exceptional restaurants on the first two floors, and so many eateries, shops, and coffee houses within two blocks that you'd never need to leave the area. The main reason for my average rating is the bed, it was like sleeping on a concrete floor with a thin layer of carpet. I woke up each day having to take Panadol. It's really just a big bed and breakfast. The lack of a proper restaurant or room service should preclude it from describing itself as a hotel. There are a couple of places to eat on the ground floor, but they appear to be independent of the hotel.
