We live across the road from the hotel and decided to just pop into the bar for a change, on Thursday night. I expected it to be very dead, but as the night wore on it really filled up a bit. We saw one of the contestants from The Voice SA and there were some folk from the Nederlands who were quite festive. All in all, a nice spot for a quick two drinks.

Travelled for business. Great hotel in Jo'burg, real value for money. The restaurant was very nice, service was at its best. Would definitely come back again or advise someone to come. Overall, I had a lovely stay.

Very good dining room, bar and poolside facilities, Service generally good. Staff in all sections obliging.Have been staying there year after year for some time and ;previously from time to time. Prices reasonable though have to be negotiated due to availability of "special offers". Booking through website often more expensive than booking direct. regretably/

The breakfast, lunch and dinner was divine. We will always stay at the Protea Wanderers during our future visits to Johannesburg.

From your first step into the hotel the first impression is one of high quality, the setup is outstanding together with the service from reception. The room is very well setup, it has a bar fridge, a nice desk, comfortable bed, shower AND bath. The room service and food was tasty and well prepared. The noise levels at times was slightly high but didn't last too long. All in all a great stay.

Reception was excellent and enough parking even under cover under the hotel. The rooms on floor 4 is double king size bed with bath and shower. There is an excellent Restaurant with reasonable priced and a good wine list. There is also a Gymnasium, pool and all sorts of sporting activities. Breakfast was excellent. A good place to stay when you want to watch Cricket at Wanderers. Many convention venues available.

I had a 2-night stay at Protea Hotel Waanders. Its well-located within the Sandton area, which is a suburb of Joburg and one of the nicer areas in the region. Note that this is a little far if you intend to mostly be in the CBD region of Joburg, but Ubers are easily available. One of the highlights at the hotel was the brekfast, which was elaborate, and served a cheerful staff.

We began our tour of South Africa in Jo'burg and this was our first hotel upon arrival. The staff were courteous, the restaurant amenities very good (we appreciated the quality of the food even more after we started touring and encountered some not very good food) and the rooms were clean, bright and welcoming. As we arrived early in the morning we could not access our room so the concierge was amazing in offering us assistance in filling our day. We decided to do the hop on hop off bus so he... Read more

Love the friendly staff. Just gives it a bit of a personal feeling. Rooms are comfortable and have everything you need. It's clean and well-kept. Breakfast is an oppurtunity to spoil yourself . Some of the rooms have a wonderful view on the surrounding gardens.

I can't write too much about this hotel as we arrived 7pm from the airport and departed on a tour at 8am the following morning. So unfortunately no time to take a dip in the lovely swimming pool. The bedrooms were nicely furnished including a fresh apple placed in each bedroom each day in its own display! The beds were comfortable which was great after a long flight. We had snacks (actually more like a full meal!) and drinks in the bar. The staff were pleasant and the prices very good (compared ... Read more

Rooms were on the small side but the space was utilized very well; good assortment of amenities and fast enough internet connection (though one frequently has to re-enter one's name and room number -- only mildly annoying). Most of the staff were pleasant though one woman at the front desk never smiled once after several interactions with her (no unreasonable requests on my part). Their signature was a fresh apple a day in each room --- on the other hand, as apples go these were just so-so (but ... Read more

The hotel facilities and staff met my expectations. On arrival, I was assigned a room that was not ready for a new guest. I brought this to the receptionist's attention and she apologized and have me another room. Mistakes do happen but it's the way they are handled that makes a difference. It was had handled professionally and I'm happy. All the staff members I interacted with were nothing but friendly. Your staff either make you or break you. You guys understand what customer service is about.... Read more

We booked in for a night after deciding to have dinner with friends at a local mexican restaurant up the road. The grounds are lovely - great views across bowling greens, and Wanderers in the distance. The staff were courteous and friendly. We enjoyed some drinks at the bar before heading off to dinner: a nice selection of local wines (great seeing more than one option available for wine by the glass). The room was a fair size (King Deluxe) and had all the amenities one would need for an overni... Read more

I stayed at this hotel in Johannesburg while visiting a conference. It was chosen primarily because of proximity to the conference facilities. It met my needs and when an issue was identified it was resolved swiftly and to satisfaction. Good moderately priced convention hotel.

The hotel with the welcoming apple! Rooms are adequate without being outstanding. The hotel is close to the business areas and would probably be ideal for those going to the Wanderers cricket. Nothing great but then also no problems. It's a type of place to stay in if business meetings are to be held close by.

Stayed here for three weeks in July Overall it's a decent hotel..but not totally special..good location and okay food Food: Decent breakfast with hot food, cereals, pastries, fruit The waiters were very helpful- getting me a hot soya milk for cereal daily. The options for supper are okay- lots of meat options but just two veg options- a mushroom burger and veg curry. The service at supper is very slow Takes at least 35 minutes to get your meal A don Pedro needs to be ordered at the start of t... Read more

When traveling to Jhb there is no shortage of options to stay at, the protea wanderers has been a solid candidate for as long as I can remember. It also helps that the service is always impeccable and they will gladly arrange a coffee at 5.30am before your meetings kick off.

Good choice for a mid-range hotel in the Sandton area. Not quite in the middle of Sandton but close enough if you have your own transport - if you're a sports fan then the Wanderers Stadium is just across the road. It very much feels like an oasis, loved the large infinity pool which you could do some lap swimming in, or watch the oldies next door playing bowls ... The rooms are comfortably appointed, it's not super luxury but definitely sufficient for relaxation.

Stayed there for the second time on Business. This time in the cold season which was not as pleasant as the first stay during summer. There is no useable heating in the room which may be understandble given the very short period of time where heating might be needed. Still it was unpleasant The roooms are okay - not too big, but sufficient - Breakfast is nice and offers good choice.
