Kanonkop House is a gorgeous small hotel with beautiful rooms, panoramic views, lots of personal touches and friendly accommodating staff who make it their mission to make your stay one to remember. I highly recommend the Selwyn Suite which is large, luxurious and very comfortable. You can take a bath while gazing out on the whole of the Knysna Lagoon. Breathtaking! The bar in the room was generously stocked and the breakfast in the morning was fresh, varied and tasty. For dinner the staff m... Read more

We stayed at Kanonkop for three nights over the very busy Easter week-end. I must mention that I am a South-African visitor and not one of the many oversees visitors that mostly frequent Kanonkop as guests, so my perspective might be clouded by my interpretation of the rand/ dollar rate which makes it actually quite expensive for a local tourist, so my expectations might be more or higher that a foreign tourist's. But I do have a lot of experience visiting other five star guesthouses and hote... Read more

What a lovely property atop Kanonkop Hill with spectacular panoramic views overlooking the lagoon and the Knysna Heads. Beautiful views from our room and every room in the main house. The first night we stayed in the Forest room and weren't too keen on it so we requested another room for the next two nights and it was lovely! Slept great in the exceptionally comfortable bed. We liked the special South African toiletries. Mark and the Kanonkop team provided everything you could ask for and ... Read more

Kanonkop House was the starting point for our tour of the Garden Route. It is beautifully placed with sweeping views of the lagoon and Knysna Heads. We spent a few nights here and really appreciated the local knowledge of our host Mark who grew up in the area and was full of ideas when it came to putting together daily itineraries for our touring - we had a few ideas of what we wanted to see and do but Mark was able to give us extra suggestions and put things together . It was a bit like stay... Read more

First the upsides...excellent service, great views and very homely. Where I struggle to give it 5 stars is that the room we stayed in did not have air conditioning and while it was cool, with all the windows closed (we usually don't risk keeping ours open for fear of mosquitos and other creepy crawleys!), it got a little stuffy. Also, the carpet and some of the furnishings in our room were starting to show some wear. Still, overall a very pleasant night's stay and great people. Very good breakfa... Read more

From the paradise room, I think it's called, it's a beautiful view. Gibson greeted us warmly. Spending a little time talking to him and looking at the stars was a joy. Arriving on a rainy winter night, we found a great cozy welcome here. We should've stayed longer.

We spent three heavenly nights in the Sivuyile suite: a very quiet and private room with a balcony overlooking the pool. Liesl greeted us with a glass of wine, showed us around the property, and provided excellent service throughout our stay. She booked dinners for us each night, and arranged a taxi to take us out and back, which made for a really stress-free evening. We got spoiled quickly! She would have recommended itineraries for us as well, but we had already figured out what we were doin... Read more

Recently my wife and five children and I stayed at the Kanonkop guest house. It was truly one of the nicest places I've ever stayed at and I have stayed at many 5 star hotels. The house is unimaginably beautiful with huge picture windows looking out onto the Knysna bay from a beautiful vantage point in the hills above Knysna. The rooms are large and beautifully appointed. The grounds are wonderfully kept. The property is managed by Liesel and a gentleman named Gibson, both of whom couldn't ... Read more

The staff welcomed us as a host would welcome friends who are guests in their home. Our room, the Paradise suite, was beautiful inside and outside. The food was delicious and well presented. While located high above the busy streets of town, it only took minutes to get to restaurants, sightseeing venues and shopping.

Knysna was somehow much further than I thought, but when we saw the view from Kanonkop it more than made up for the long drive. The house is beautiful and very comfortable, which a lovely team of people to look after you. We were greeted by Liesl with a glass of wine, and an upgrade to the beautiful Forrest Suite. Since the guesthouse doesn't offer dinner, they made a reservation at a restaurant in town and booked us a taxi to get there, which I thought was very thoughtful. Breakfast was very go... Read more

I do private tours and my guests requested 5 star accommodation. Not seeing the property beforehand is sometimes a concern but I booked at Kanonkop anyway. What a very welcoming surprise upon my arrival! Due to availability, I was upgraded to the Forest Suite. I thought I was in heaven when I walked into my room with the most amazing aroma and forest feel to it.The Manageress Liesl gave me a tour of the house and it is jaw dropping beautiful. This house probably has the best lagoon views in Kny... Read more

We only stayed one night but in our short time at Kanonkop we were made to feel welcome and well looked after. Liesl recommended and booked a taxi and a table at The Olive Tree restaurant which was a great choice and a we had a lovely meal. We had a super breakfast with an amazing view whilst chatting to the owner, Mark. All in all, a great place to stay in Knysna. We would like to revisit and stay longer next time.

Kanonkop Guest House, is high on a hill side and gives wonderful views over the lagoon. Welcomed by Liesl, Numsi, Gibson and the team. Numsi, made us feel so welcome with a big hug. I felt I'd always known her. Liesl is such a fabulous person, showing us all that the house and nearby attractions had to offer. We stayed in the Selwyn Suite, which was amazing and huge. Patio doors overlooking the hillside down to the lagoon and beyond. Beautifully furnished and equipped. So glad we were staying 4 ... Read more

Fantastic views from our suite. On our arrival Numsi made us so welcome as did Gibson. Liesl was also very friendly and welcoming when we met her later. The accommodation is lovely as is the food. A fantastic place to stay and we hope to return in the future.

We had the best time snuggling up in the "Paradise" suite, which has a spectacular view of the bay below (reminds me of Bodega Bay in N.California). The staff at the house is warm and gracious, and whipped up one of the tastiest omelettes I've ever had. Mark was the host with the most, graciously guiding us on our action packed itinerary. In Knysna we visited the elephants, the monkey sanctuary, went zip lining, and had one of the best times mountain biking through the woods, where the path led... Read more

I have visited Kanonkop 4 times, with my wife only, with friends and for a Golf Tour. The Villa suits each occasion - Mark and Adele cater for all your needs and are very accommodating. This has to be one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at. The rooms are immaculate, the views breath-taking and the service world class.

This house is stunning! It stands at the top of a hill overlooking Knysna, the views over the Lagoon are fabulous. The rooms are stunning. The house is beautiful and guests are free to share all public rooms and help themselves to drinks as they wish. The bedrooms are very stylish and have large verandas overlooking the Lagoon. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and the owner, Mark, is very present and makes you feel very welcome in his beautiful home.
