we arrived on an early flight (7am) and were met at the airport by Lucky who drove us to the hotel highlighting points of interest on the way. The hotel is in a residential area away from the city centre so you do need to take a taxi if you wanted to go shopping etc. Our room was ready on arrival and we were able to relax immediately. Our suite was on the ground floor and had an outside shower and a decking area overlooking the koi pond. The room was spacious and well decorated with TV in the... Read more

I had a mostly pleasant stay at the Residence Boutique hotel. Our airport transfer, Lucky, was great, definitely a nice way to be greeted after 20+ hours of travel. Once we arrived there were so many alcoholic welcome drinks I didn't know where to begin! I liked the fact that you could have the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant or as room service. My main complaint was related to the service. For both breakfasts, we ordered to our room and both times they forgot our coffee orders. On t... Read more

We stayed in this amazing hotel for our honeymoon and it was great. When we got there (after the complimentary transfer from the airport), there was a bottle of champagne to celebrate the occasion. The next day, we left early (5am) for a balloon flight, and they had arranged a picnic basket for us to take, since we wouldn't be able to have breakfast. We hadn't asked for it, it was just a great surprise. The room itself was amazing, we got the Madiba suite and the terrace was amazing. Everything ... Read more

Just finished a wonderful two night stay at The Residence. It is truly difficult to find a unique way to express how perfect the experience has been. From the airport pick-up, through check-out every detail was faultless. In addition, the staff was friendly and courteous while fulfilling our every need. Our stay was in the pool villa which was just amazing and extremely private. I've been traveling the world for 35 years on business & pleasure and haven't stayed at a hotel that is better!

After coming off safaris, this was an EXCELLENT place to stay for our last night in Africa. From the moment we stepped into the hotel and were greeted by Layton, we were treated like royalty. The hotel was secure, and had everything you needed, so you didn't need to leave. We only had one night here, but wished we had more time. The dinner was outstanding, but what made it so was the service. I don't think I ever experienced anything so wonderful. A true gem.

The Residence is probably the nicest and most elegant hotel we've ever stayed in. It's absolutely beautiful, elegant and very special. The service is equally wonderful. Our only regret is that we had just one night to enjoy it. There are 3 pools, a tennis court, and lovely grounds. The buildings have a couple challenging features, but they have done a remarkable job of working within the old bones, and furnished it beautifully. We recently stayed at this lovely, boutique hotel with only 18 rooms, for just one night upon arrival in Johannesburg, prior to starting on a week's Safari and were overwhelmed by the accommodations, the service, the food and the attention to detail. This small hotel, tucked away in a residential neighborhood, about 30 minutes from the airport, is more like staying in someone's private, luxurious home. They provide a driver and car to and from the airport, in addition to wherever you need to b... Read more

We only stayed one night at the Residence to rest after our long flight before travelling to Kruger the following day. However, the accommodation and breakfast were superb. The level of service and attention to detail by all staff members were of an extremely high standard and I would not hesitate to recommend it to everyone.

We stayed one evening at The Residence. Neither myself nor my wife had heard of it until recently. Apparently a lot of international guests frequent this hotel. Upon arrival, we were warmly made to feel welcome. The hotel is in a quiet street in leafy Houghton. The check in process was quick and easy. The decor in the lobby area is exquisite. We had booked into the penthouse which had lovely views and a private deck with a Jacuzzi. It was also by far the most private hotel room I had seen in a wh... Read more

We stayed at The Residence Hotel for one night and planned to stay at another hotel for the remaining three nights after returning from a week long safari. We were so impressed with the first night we changed our plans and booked into the hotel for the remaining 3 nights. The first night we had a standard room which was anything but standard. The bed, bedding, room and bathroom exceeded our expectations. In the morning the breakfast also exceeded our expectations and was 'silver service' sta... Read more

We were here for just one night before flying to Port Elizabeth. This is a really lovely hotel with a comfortable, country house ambience but with all modern comforts. The choice of food at dinner & breakfast was excellent and the staff kind & helpful. We wish we could have stayed longer.

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, the room was spacious and the linen was white and crisp. The decor, however, was frightening in its clutter and eclecticism. Overpowering. Too much stuff. We really really didn't enjoy being there and were very happy to leave. The flies in our room didn't help, nor the sludge at the bottom of the jaccuzzi.

This place really has a special atmosphere. From outside it looks a little daunting, as the high walls make it look a little confined but that is for security. When you get inside you will see a totally luxurious range of suites and you are made to feel very much a valued client. Every single person from check in to cleaner does their very best to please you and care for you during your stay. If we ever go back to Johannesburg we will definitely stay here again. Thank you to all of you.

OMG the only regret I have about this place is that I did not get the opportunity to stay longer! EVERYTHING about this hotel is perfect! From the AP pickup to check out! The breakfast was superb and the endless champagne was nice touch as well! My only grip is we got locked out of our room pretty late and the late night person did not know how to make new keys. As a guest that is a pretty bad. Everyone working at the hotel especially the auditors or late night bell boys should know how to mak... Read more

The friendliness and professionalism at the hotel. Before I stay at any hotel I read the reviews, no one gets paid for giving their opinion. I read reviews for 2 1/2 hours before I decided that this will be the hotel that were I would spin my first time in South Africa. There was not one negative review and the 2 1/2 hours that I spent reading. Up on arrival they treat each and every guest as if they are VIPs not knowing your status who you are they treat you like you are a superstar. My firs... Read more

I travel A LOT and was shocked at the quality of this hotel considering the price paid for the room ($230/night). I suppose that is the case with most of South Africa, but the Residence really stood out. The hotel is large, but feels quaint like you are in a (very wealthy) friend's house. The room (we had room 3) was amazing!! Outdoor shower and tub and eating area all to ourselves!! There was also a bathroom inside the room with both shower and tub and very nice toiletries. They also have heate... Read more

Fantastic service, classy hotel and great value due to all those little extras. A brilliant stay and one that we honesty couldn't find a fault. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing break. The massage is also one of the best we have received.
