What a magnificent boutique hotel, the service, food and overall attention to detail was phenomenal. The SPA is exceptional...highly recommend it for a couples get away or even just a solo stay. nothing was too much hassle and I loved the outside bath for a moonlight bubble bath.

A wonderful haven in a beautiful leafy suburb of the Houghton Estate in Johannesburg. Can't find a fault with The Residence- ambience, staff, atmosphere all first class. We have a late flight and have been allowed to keep our room and enjoy the facilities for no extra charge. Johannesburg is a fascinating place to visit so put it on your South Africa itinerary and allow at least 3-4 days to really get the most out of it and do stay at the Residence if you come - you won't be disappointed.

We stayed overnight at The Residence on 6 Oct 16 before departing South Africa after a two week holiday. Everything about The Residence was pure luxury and it was a perfect finish to our wonderful holiday. The staff were responsive and discretely attentive. They couldn't do enough to make sure we were relaxed and happy. The meals were amazing and our suite was peaceful and extremely comfortable. We availed ourselves of the private car service to visit the Apartheid Museum and to also transfer t... Read more

Rarely does a hotel exceed ones expectations. The Residence does on every level. Let's begin with location. Johannesburg is so large that I cannot say where is the best location. That said, The Residence is located in Houghton, one of Johannesburg's most upscale and therefore safest areas. Moving to service, it was in a word seamless in a very quiet, there-but-not-overt way. If you needed something, that something appeared. From the time you enter the property, you feel safe and cared for. My ro... Read more

I spent my birthday, 5th January 2017 at the Residence spa. Oh my word! What a place! The breakfast and lunch were amazing, the service, the facilities, the decor, outstanding...the spa was out of this world! My therapist was Veronica, what a great therapist she is! I hope she got the small tip that I left her. Very skilled and professional. I am definitely coming back soon, and time, as the hotel's guest. I have already recommended The Residence to 5 people that are definitely planning on going... Read more

We stayed at the Residence for 2 nights in mid December 2016. We were coming from Chicago and thus pretty jet lagged and were preparing to go on Safari. We were picked up from the airport in a nice van with wi-fi, spent some time in the hotel spa (highly recommend) and had a beautiful dinner at the hotel. The next day, after the wonderful complimentary breakfast, the hotel arranged a driver to take us on a tour around Johannesburg, a visit to the Apartheid Museum, and a dinner for us in Melro... Fantastic service, classy hotel and great value due to all those little extras. A brilliant stay and one that we honesty couldn't find a fault. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing break. The massage is also one of the best we have received.

I travel A LOT and was shocked at the quality of this hotel considering the price paid for the room ($230/night). I suppose that is the case with most of South Africa, but the Residence really stood out. The hotel is large, but feels quaint like you are in a (very wealthy) friend's house. The room (we had room 3) was amazing!! Outdoor shower and tub and eating area all to ourselves!! There was also a bathroom inside the room with both shower and tub and very nice toiletries. They also have heate... Read more

The friendliness and professionalism at the hotel. Before I stay at any hotel I read the reviews, no one gets paid for giving their opinion. I read reviews for 2 1/2 hours before I decided that this will be the hotel that were I would spin my first time in South Africa. There was not one negative review and the 2 1/2 hours that I spent reading. Up on arrival they treat each and every guest as if they are VIPs not knowing your status who you are they treat you like you are a superstar. My firs... Read more
