Walking up away from the waterfront we found this classic hotel that was like going back in time to a wonderful classic era. Lunch was lovely and the grounds with their lawn and pool were delightful in the sunshine. Worth a visit.

We had a lovely three night stay at the hotel. Staff friendly, rooms comfortable and beautiful. We love the old world charm of this hotel. Had a lovely massage at the spa even after we sadly had a few miscommunications of bookings. I recommend booking in advance and book via email. Hotel is very central and easy to get to most activities and good restaurants around Cape Town.

My husband & I stayed at the Mount Nelson for our anniversary by default really, because the hotel we had booked at was so awful we left immediately after checking in. We were lucky enough to get a room at the Mount Nelson at the very last minute and we were so glad we did. They could not have been more accommodating - the check in was efficient and friendly, our room was prepared in half an hour and we were given a complementary bottle of bubbly and a beautiful fruit platter. My son's American companion suggested, {after consulting her guide book} that we arrange morning tea at the grand old Mt Nelson in celebration of my wife's birthday, which we did. This is living as Life used to be for sure and we greatly enjoyed the occasion, especially the effort made by the staff who, on hearing of the celebration, arranged for a cake to be prepared for the birthday girl. Such a special touch which I have no doubt will be remembered for many years Thank you... The eats wer... Read more

The Hotel grounds are beautiful, the property itself oozes history, and stories felt as if they were lingering the hallways (including one particular fun one of a guest complaining about a vagabond on the lawn that turned out to be John Lennon). High Tea is exquisite and the sculptures around the grounds a joy to explore

This is the best of old world charm with modern facilities. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly, professional and helpful. Food and drinks were of a high standard, the rooms were comfortable and quiet and there is an overall feeling of being valued and well looked after.

We spent a lot of time on Tripadvisor and elsewhere trying to figure out which Cape Town hotel would suit us best, looking at maps, and comparing hotel locations against attractions and restaurants. We picked the Mount Nelson with some worries that the area was too too far from the center. The worries proved groundless, for Cape Town is more compact than it looks on a map, and the Mount Nelson is within walking distance of the center. If you walk down the entrance road to the portico you are a... Read more

The "Nellie" as it is fondly known is something of an institution amongst Cape Town hotels and so we expected that this stay would be exceptional in every respect. Sadly, we found it a little lacking. The public areas of the hotel are lovely especially the diningroom with its enormous silver bowls of pink roses and period furnishings. A live pianist would have added to the ambience. The guest rooms are large and comfortable and are equipped with all the amenities one would expect of a hotel of... Read more

We had the pleasure of staying at The Mount Nelson in July. Its a great place to be based at in Cape Town for getting to and from other places around the area. We were greeted with glasses of sparkling Cape wine while checking in. We were upgraded into a lovely room. The concierge showed us around the room very nicely. The décor is old colonial in fitting with the history of the building. There are 2 pools one is heated. There are 2 restaurants and a small spa which is separated for men and wom... Read more

The Mount Nelson is a classic Grand Dame. I am not sure if it was an issue with my visit, but I found the overall ambiance rather sad and uninviting. The room was very good, but the common areas are disappointing, as it is the restaurant. Overall, it is not a place where I would happily return. HOTEL - I don't like the layout and the common areas. The main building has a lounge and a bar, which are both rather small and unappealing. The feeling is of an old place (a little worn, particularly th... Read more

Excellent afternoon tea. Get a taxi we walked and went though some dodgy areas. Tea is served at 1.30 or 3.30 it may be wise to book at busy times. Service was great by a very charming young man who introduced us to three new teas. The sandwiches, savouries and cakes were mind blowing the scones however were not as good as I would have liked. Had I known I would have skipped the scone and had more of the cakes. We worth a visit

Coming here several times a year, it's a heavenly retreat - it's old school, it has history, charm, all the splendor of a grande hotel - with some wonderful and uber-cool innovations like the gorgeous bar, dining area (check the ceiling with the twinkling stars) and a truly amazing chef's table experience that foodies must not miss out on. The chef is extremely talented and this is the place he really gets to showcase his brilliance.
