I visited this week and loved the entire place. I will be back. The place will take you back in time. Gorgeous and great for couples. Roof top pool, restaurant, central location, all excellent. My wife and I went to their beautiful bar for a drink and met Luis Flores, the best bartender I have ever met. He filled us in on all the happening spots, drew a map for us and made reservations for us at the best restaurant in Old San Juan, Marmalade.(Another review). It's guys like Luis that make your ex... The El Convento is an amazingly beautiful hotel. The interior courtyard was great. We ate lunch at the restaurant on the ground level and enjoyed several drinks from the 2nd floor bar. Always received great service from both. There were also several lovely lounges and great places to sit and enjoy the aesthetics of the hotel. The location was great if you plan on spending most of your time in old San Juan. We only stayed two nights so we didn't use many of the amenities but everyone was extremel... Read more

The bar is inside the little courtyard in the El Convento. We were not staying at the hotel, but they treated us very well. The bartender, Luis Flores, was a great host and very knowledgeable about Old San Juan and the hotel as well. We got great recommendations from him. There were also excellent pina coladas and it was a great environment!

This is a locally owned hotel that used to be a convent. The history behind it is great. The hotel staff and restaurant staff are welcoming, friendly, and very accommodating. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Lunch at Patio del Nispero in the hotel was very good, and the patio environment is relaxing. The hotel also has complimentary water, tea, and fruit available for its guests, a welcome respite after a long day in the sun. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful historic hotel for a week. Just got back to New Jersey yesterday :-( I remember the first time we were walking to our room located in the 4th floor. I was already so fascinated by its historic beauty. What a lovely, warm, and inviting ambience. The location of the room was perfect. Away from the bar and not too close to the rooftop pool and jacuzzi. (I would recommend choosing a room in the 4th floor, if possible!). The room that we had was very spaci... Read more

This hotel has everything you could ask for.1 History, (ask for the history brochure at the desk), the hotel was a convent for 252 yrs., hence the name, and then underwent various transformations. 2. Ambiance. A Nispera tree in the dinning courtyard complete w/ inquisitive lizards, and if you eat at the Tapas bar on the upper level, bats cavort in the canopy of the tree. There are also resident cats. 3. Restaurants. A courtyard restaurant for breakfast/fine dining and a Tapas restaurant on an u... Read more

We visited the tapas restaurant in Convento with our 9 yrs. old daughter and couple of friends and all loved delicious tapas (ceviche was our favorite). Kids friendly but I would consider to visit there for a romantic, candlelight dinner. Very elegantly designed and Natalia's service and recommendations were super!

We stayed a few days ahead of a cruise departing from San Juan and adored our stay at this lovely hotel. The staff was terrific and friendly, the hotel was charming and felt like stepping into the past with its antique furniture. With that said, the hotel boasts modern conveniences, including air conditioning! The location is right in the middle of Old San Juan, convenient to numerous tourist attractions. We would absolutely return.

After a 7 hour flight delay, we arrived at this lovely hotel at 11:00pm. The staff was so kind and understanding. There were 8 family members, staying in 3 rooms, arriving at what was to be 3 different times. I had made all of the reservations on my account and I ended up being the last to arrive! My Husband and I stayed at Hotel El Convento for our honeymoon last fall and we absolutely loved it. The hotel is beautiful, the staff was awesome and the food at the restaurants was so delicious. Our room had a Juliet balcony that looked out towards the bay, which was nice. This historic property is a gem in the middle of old San Juan. The staff was great, rooms were lovely and the food at the restaurant was outstanding. El Convento is a gorgeous, historic hotel with exquisite service, scrumptious breakfast and an ideal location in old San Juan. The room was comfortable and beautifully appointed. This former convent up the hill next to the Cathedral is a quiet and beautiful retreat. Food in the courtyard is wonderful. We split the Steak Mafungo which was to die for. Cold beer and great service. Away from the crowds of tourist and the street hawkers. I would stay here if I was ever in San Juan overnight. Located in the heart of Old San Juan, El Convento is small but romantic hotel. This hotel used to be a convent over 350 years ago, and been transformed into hotel in 1959. While the hotel has been modernized, the high ceiling rooms, large doors, and the layout give it special charm. Additionally, the hotel provides free water-bottles, fruits, and daily wine testing at 6:00 PM.

So we stayed at this hotel for 5 days for a wedding of our friends. One night we had an issue where we were locked out our room and the hotel didn't have a master key on the premises. The best way to spend a weekend in old San Juan is to stay at the Hotel El Convento. it was recommended to us by dear friends and it was the perfect romantic getaway. The rooms are charming, and as the name implies, this was an old convent that was transformed into a hotel. The service is first rate, and the restaurant is outstanding.
