I visited this week and loved the entire place. I will be back. The place will take you back in time. Gorgeous and great for couples. Roof top pool, restaurant, central location, all excellent. My wife and I went to their beautiful bar for a drink and met Luis Flores, the best bartender I have ever met. He filled us in on all the happening spots, drew a map for us and made reservations for us at the best restaurant in Old San Juan, Marmalade.(Another review). It's guys like Luis that make your ex... The El Convento is an amazingly beautiful hotel. The interior courtyard was great. We ate lunch at the restaurant on the ground level and enjoyed several drinks from the 2nd floor bar. Always received great service from both. There were also several lovely lounges and great places to sit and enjoy the aesthetics of the hotel. The location was great if you plan on spending most of your time in old San Juan. We only stayed two nights so we didn't use many of the amenities but everyone was extremel... Read more

The bar is inside the little courtyard in the El Convento. We were not staying at the hotel, but they treated us very well. The bartender, Luis Flores, was a great host and very knowledgeable about Old San Juan and the hotel as well. We got great recommendations from him. There were also excellent pina coladas and it was a great environment!

This is a locally owned hotel that used to be a convent. The history behind it is great. The hotel staff and restaurant staff are welcoming, friendly, and very accommodating. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Lunch at Patio del Nispero in the hotel was very good, and the patio environment is relaxing. The hotel also has complimentary water, tea, and fruit available for its guests, a welcome respite after a long day in the sun. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful historic hotel for a week. Just got back to New Jersey yesterday :-( I remember the first time we were walking to our room located in the 4th floor. I was already so fascinated by its historic beauty. What a lovely, warm, and inviting ambience. The location of the room was perfect. Away from the bar and not too close to the rooftop pool and jacuzzi. (I would recommend choosing a room in the 4th floor, if possible!). The room that we had was very spaci... Read more

You feel immediately welcomed, with this historic edifice and high class service. The rooms are extremely comfortable and amenities abound. I recommend a minimum 2 night stay. The hotel is centrally located in old San Juan and the staff do what they can to help you in your visit.

This hotel has everything you could ask for.1 History, (ask for the history brochure at the desk), the hotel was a convent for 252 yrs., hence the name, and then underwent various transformations. 2. Ambiance. A Nispera tree in the dinning courtyard complete w/ inquisitive lizards, and if you eat at the Tapas bar on the upper level, bats cavort in the canopy of the tree. There are also resident cats. 3. Restaurants. A courtyard restaurant for breakfast/fine dining and a Tapas restaurant on an u... Read more

Ate food at the bar, the pizza was not spectacular. Others in our group got the calamari- was very delicious. The building is beautiful along with everything inside. I would recommend for s glass of wine, snacks, and the scenery. The location is very central.

We visited the tapas restaurant in Convento with our 9 yrs. old daughter and couple of friends and all loved delicious tapas (ceviche was our favorite). Kids friendly but I would consider to visit there for a romantic, candlelight dinner. Very elegantly designed and Natalia's service and recommendations were super!

We stayed a few days ahead of a cruise departing from San Juan and adored our stay at this lovely hotel. The staff was terrific and friendly, the hotel was charming and felt like stepping into the past with its antique furniture. With that said, the hotel boasts modern conveniences, including air conditioning! The location is right in the middle of Old San Juan, convenient to numerous tourist attractions. We would absolutely return.

After a 7 hour flight delay, we arrived at this lovely hotel at 11:00pm. The staff was so kind and understanding. There were 8 family members, staying in 3 rooms, arriving at what was to be 3 different times. I had made all of the reservations on my account and I ended up being the last to arrive! This sweet staff took care of everyone and made our 3 day stay the best! Our rooms were lovely, each handsomely decorated. The beautiful open restaurant on the first floor was a great place for br... My family of 9 stayed 2 nights pre cruise in June. We stayed in 4 rooms: 102 with 2 double beds for daughter, age 19, niece and nephew, age 14. Room was clean and nice size; room located to the left of elevator, through locked entrance door to 3 or 4 rooms, so extra secure. 318 queen bed, view of street and buildings, room was again clean and mattress comfortable. 416 queen bed, nice view of the ocean, comfortable mattress and pillows, good hot water and water pressure in shower. We came to Old San Juan to visit our daughter who is attending Unversidad Sagrado Corazon for a summer program abroad. We searched Trip Advisor and decided to take a chance on this boutique luxury hotel based on other recommendations. We were not disappointed. The staff was excellent, always concerned about our comfort and customer service. The facilities are beautiful. My Husband and I stayed at Hotel El Convento for our honeymoon last fall and we absolutely loved it. The hotel is beautiful, the staff was awesome and the food at the restaurants was so delicious. Our room had a Juliet balcony that looked out towards the bay, which was nice. There is also a small roof top pool with lounge seating and though the pool is small it was never really crowed, it also had a great view. The hotel is in a great location so it is really easy to walk to shopping, bars and a... Read more

Complementary bottled water is accessible at all times as well as fruit. Daily reception offering wine and cheese. The on sight restaurant food is fantastic. Finally location. No doubt about it, this hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect, however do not expect a matching level of service. Front desk staff is so inexperienced and unprofessional. We booked through trip advisor and they could not locate our reservations for two rooms. Then we were told no rooms were ready - not one room! BUT if we upgraded then a room would be ready!!! This historic property is a gem in the middle of old San Juan. The staff was great, rooms were lovely and the food at the restaurant was outstanding. There was a 24 hour free coffee and water bar which was a nice amenity. We were only here for one night prior to embarking on a cruise, wish we could have stayed there longer. Loved this hotel!

We stayed in San Juan for four days as a stopping ground on the way to Vieques. Since we were already doing a beach vacation in Vieques, we wanted to explore the old city and visit museums and restaurants in the area. El Convento was perfectly located for our purposes. We could walk to all of the must-see places in San Juan--the forts, the museums, the bay, the plazas, and dozens of restaurants and bars. If you want a place to stay that has the elegance of any hotel in the region, the El Convento is for you. The price point is VERY reasonable and the services that he hotel offers are fantastic. What a wonderful, hotel! We found El Convento when we disembarked from a cruise in Oct/15 - they held our suitcases for us until our flight, which was later in the day. We were so impressed we agreed to return for a week in Old San Juan and to this hotel. It is so quiet, so relaxing, staff are the most wonderful we've found in any hotel we've stayed - can't do enough for you. The beauty of this former convent turned hotel speaks for itself. Seeing it is impressive enough, staying there is a true pleasure. The location is ideal for those who want to be centrally located in old San Juan as we did. My wife and I live in the Caribbean and enjoy traveling throughout all the islands. El Convento is truly a Caribbean gem and we think it is by far the best hotel in San Juan. Because it is a relatively small hotel you will get to meet many of the employees that work there ... The hotel stands in a remarkable location and offers nice views overlooking he city from the rooftop. You are paying for location and the history. The rooms are very minimal with no windows; which would make sense given the history of the building. Bathrooms have been beautifully updated and the grounds are beautifully kept. Perfectly heaven. The whole feel is peaceful and comfortable. The food, the staff, the rooms. An historical must-see. Experience it and you'll see. Don't let the fact that it's an old convent steer you away. It's absolutely charming. The views are outstanding.

The Hotel Convento is so beautiful. The last time I was in Puerto Rico 8 years ago I saw the hotel and fell in love with it - I swore the next time I visited PR, I would stay there and we did! The hotel is perfectly situated in Old San Juan and is within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. I know that the area is described as only being 7 blocks, but when you've got younger kids in tow and it's so hot and humid, you still want to be as close to your destinations as possible. Ever... El Convento is a gorgeous, historic hotel with exquisite service, scrumptious breakfast and an ideal location in old San Juan. The room was comfortable and beautifully appointed. I loved the courtyard hallways with small tables and chairs right outside each room, perfect for relaxing with coffee in the morning. And the wine and cheese in the afternoon is a nice touch.
