Hard to find, our taxi driver had no idea, and we drove around for a while. Nice hotel, very friendly staff, no dining room, but great restaurants nearby. Nice walk into the center of town and well served by buses and trams for the climb back.

The hotel is in a great location within the castle walls. It is full of character. The staff were very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Our room rather small but perfectly formed. The breakfast was great with lots of choice and was being replenished constantly. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who prefers the personal touch with character.

The hotel is located next to St. George's Castle. It's in a near perfect location that is an easy walk to many of the standard tourist destinations as well as the main transit hub which makes it easy to catch a tram or train to places like Sintra or even just other parts of Lisbon. The staff was super friendly and the breakfast was great.

This hotel is a special gem. The location may be a bit tricky to get to but the taxi drivers have no problem. The staff go out of their way to make sure that you're comfortable, asking if you need anything if you slept well. They have an honor system for a bar which is open 24 hours a day and they also provide a beautiful breakfast along with drinks and snacks all day long. The decor is beautiful as it is part of the Old Castle and you certainly get that feeling. The small quaint courtyard is a ... Read more

Our family of four had an excellent stay at Solar Do Castelo. Great location right next to the Castelo in the charming Castelo district. Rooms are nice and staff is friendly and helpful. Only occasional drawback are early morning serenades from the local peacock population (!). If you have a car, plan to park it somewhere else and taxi the last stretch to the hotel.

We stayed before four years ago and it was an obvious choice for a return trip to Lisbon. With its shady and comfortable courtyard, well furnished rooms and pleasant staff it's a lovely place to be away from the bustle but convenient to the city (along as you don't mind hills). The peaceful ambience is slightly spoiled by the screech of peacocks from the castle next door which are running a bit wild, but that apart it's perfect.

Lovely hotel with atmosphere and style which made our introduction to Lisbon an unforgettable one. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful (it had a view of the river and the complimentary port was refilled every day). The hotel is nice and relaxing. However, things nearby close at 7 pm. Alfama isn't still a distance away. If you're looking for a central location, I would stay elsewhere. Really cute spot in an interesting area, neat being connected to the castle. Just be prepared to walk up the hill as it is a bit out of downtown, so made for a good work out going up and down that hill. However being up and just outside of the bustle of the city also made for a quiet location.

Lots of restaurants within 15 minute (steep) walk and central Lisbon a 10 minute bus ride away. Our superior room was spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The Solar da Castile, the castle kitchen, dates back to the 11th century, the original cistern survived the 1755 earthquake which destroyed most of the rest. It is a delightful rambling small hotel which is informal and efficient at the same time. The bar runs on an honour system. This hotel has a terrific location atop the Alfama district and under the great castle, whose entrance is a five-minute walk away. The area is very hilly, which is both charming and a challenge to the infirm. If you are in semi-decent shape, you will enjoy the narrow steep streets both coming and going to the hotel. Had the pleasure of visiting Lisbon October 6-9th. The hotel sits up on one of the hills in Lisbon and is located very near the São Jorge Castle. The streets leading up to the hotel are narrow and twisty - and make for a very scenic down to the remainder of the city. The rooms are a nice size and very cozy. The hotel is on the small size (not a lot of rooms), so you are treated like a valued guest. I would be so happy to have the chance to stay here again!

My Fiancée and I staid in this hotel for 2 nights. Very clean, relaxing and conveniently located at the foot of the Castelo. Enjoyed the very complete breakfast and in lounge minibar. Small suggestion for the mini bar: offer wine by the glass or have minibar size wine bottles. The cleaning staff was particularly friendly (did not go un-noticed). The hotel's situation is great, many sites are within walking distance. Interesting fact: the Solar Do Castelo was the Royal kitchen for many years. W... Read more

.The hotel is very good. Breakfast is self service. There is always water and coffee available. Although the hotel does not provide meals other than breakfast, this is not a problem as there are numerous places to eat within a short walk. Lisbon city is a taxi ride away but one can walk down in a half hour - more back up. Beware of pickpockets..

We just finished our fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel, and very sad to be leaving! The staff were all great, very helpful and really friendly. The room we got was very nice and quite a big size with a very high wooden ceiling. The Molten Brown toiletries, bathrobe and slippers are included and a very nice touch. Also complimentary port in the room! Very good shower as well (will be needed after tackling all those steps in town). Don't let the location put you off. It is uphill in the cast... Read more

This was a very comfortable and charming accommodation within the medieval walls of the city. Hidden among small, winding (and steep) streets, the area was very walkable -- even at night. The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. The rooms were not large, but were very comfortable. The hotel itself, with its beautiful, interior courtyard, felt very relaxing, and it was a great base for exploring Lisbon's older neighborhoods.

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel at the very top of the mountain and next to the castle. A lovely courtyard, discreet entrance, big bathroom, fountains and birds chirping. Helpful staff, soft beds, quiet streets and free coffee 24/7 together with a help yourself selection of alcoholic beverages. Will highly recommend to everyone!

We stayed at Solar Do Castelo for 4 nights and very much enjoyed our time there. We had a lovely room with a large bathroom, the staff were very friendly and efficient, the breakfasts delicious with a good choice and available till 12:00 noon. The weather was very good and we had our breakfast in the pretty courtyard on a couple of mornings. All round, a great stay!

Booked this for my husband's birthday on the back of other trip advisor reviews and it certainly lived up to expectations. Great location and we could walk to the key sites. The decor is outstanding and the courtyard is a lovely oasis. Good views and close proximity to the castle so handy for dinner and to beat the queues in the morning! Very tasty breakfasts in a beautiful setting. ALL the staff were very friendly and helpful. Thanks again for my husband's bubbly!

We were on a family vacation with our grown girls. The hotel was perfect. Friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms and very nicely decorated. We returned every afternoon and relaxed and played cards in the lobby area which was perfect. Great vacation and would definitely stay again!!!

We had a beautiful time at the hotel. The staff was very courteous, and extremely helpful with all our requests. It's a magical place to stay, if you really want to get the feel of Lisbon. The breakfast was something to look forward to every morning.

A wonderfully cozy and atmospheric hotel. The location within the castle area, the neighborhood, with narrow cobblestone streets, it's all very picturesque. I would have hoped that the hotel guests had access, inside the castle gates, directly from the hotel, even outside opening hours, since the building is part of the castle complex and is adjacent to it. The hotel is very tastefully renovated and decorated, with many historical remains beautifully highlighted. The lovely courtyard is an ... Read more
