This hotel is in the perfect location for all the main city sights. The rooms are very dated but they were well cleaned every day and all the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was okay but quite limited. If you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. But it is a good, clean, comfortable, friendly and well located hotel for a good price

Very central hotel, two sub rides and get out right across the square from the hotel. Asked for a room facing the square and got a very nice room overlooking Rossio square and up to Castelo de S. Jorge. Concierge desk is unmanned anytime I saw it, but no sign saying to take the lift, or walk up the stairs to the first floor for main reception. Very happy with Continental breakfast (some cereal; ham and cheese; bacon and eggs). Bed's in the room were very squeaky but didn't bother me. Guys at rec... Read more

Very good location, very central with a nice connection from the airport ( by train/ underground), 5 min walking distance away from the playa/ city council, close to absolutely everything. The rooms really need to be refurbished and redecorated.and the bathrooms need more cleaning.

Can you imagine lying in bed and seeing the castle of St. George all lit up ? Only at the Metropole Hotel. Located at the most famous square of Lisbon (Rossio), it is a short walk to Chiado and all nearby attractions including Casa de Fados. O Faia is my favorite and Lenita Gentil for me is the best singer of fados.

The Metropole is a traditional hotel right on one of the main squares in the centre of the city. One restaurant right outside with a choice many others very close by. Buses stop outside and it is a short walk to the lift and other attractions. There are plenty of helpful staff and a good selection of buffet breakfast items. The only downsides are the slow wi-fi and the fact that the ambience is rather 'faded elegance' but this did not spoil our stay.

Now it's just old, smelly, malfunctioning and deplorable. Staff tried hard to make their best to keep the hotel running but its mission impossible. Run away and try to find RB&B options at Bairro Alto and Chiado instead. There are also better options of totally renovated hotels at Rua do Ouro.

I read enough reviews to expect worn rugs (they are pretty bad) and knew the place had not been kept up. The rugs were not the only ratty thing. Many of the towels were worn thin and rough, and several were so worn they actually had holes in them, which is not acceptable. It is one thing not to modernize - refurbishing a hotel is a major job, but at over ‚?¨100/night they could afford to replace the worn out, holey towels! Also the mattress had some kind of plastic covering which added discomfor... Read more

For a first time visit to Lisbon the location of the hotel was fantastic. All the walking and boat tours we took originated in Rossio Square. While time has taken its toll on the hotel, this was not really a problem for us. The bed was comfortable and breakfast was adequate and the location was excellent. However, after experiencing a restless night's sleep the first night, we informed the hotel that the air conditioning was not working. Staff had been aware of this when we checked in but ... This was our first visit to Lisbon and we wanted to stay in a centrally located hotel, so that roaming around was easy with our 3.9 year old daughter. This was the last stop in our itinerary and we were least prepared for this city. Only upon reaching we understood how centrally located the hotel was. It is an old hotel in the heart of the city, i.e. Rossio Square (Praca Dom Pedro IV). We were put up in a big room with full view of the Rossio Square. A small balcony was attached to the room. The hotel is old and in need of a complete remodel/update. The guaranteed air conditioning happened to be out so they supposedly upgraded our room and supplied us with portable fans. The wifi didn't work so they supplied a booster of some sort which didn't work. The rooms door lock was a old fashioned hook and eye type. The paint around all the door frames was chipped and the carpet was extremely dirty. A second bed was requested for our 16 year old granddaughter - not a rollaway - which we... Read more

The location of the hotel is fantastic and the service is very good! It's close to everything and the square is really beautiful (although is a bit too noisy). This hotel must have been majestic in 1920s and it's appreciable that they wanted to preserve that typical atmosphere till today. But it's really too dusty and decadent now... some maintenance is highly recommended! The moquette along the stairs is broken and it's dangerous because you can stumble and fall down, the walls need some fresh... Read more

Location can't be better. In the heart of Lisbon, easy access to the main amenities and transports. Walkable distance to the town hotspots but also to the touristic buses and tram 28. Certainly very helpful staff. Average breakfast. We have stayed in the past in old fashioned hotels but in this case the hotel is not only old fashionable, it seems neglected and somewhat sad. With minor changes it could be a much more pleasant stay.

The room was small with small little window, and during my last visit (in August... it was extremely hot) and sometimes unbearable to have a proper sleep. It was good for a short stay, and can't expect more with a price i paid for. However, I must admit, the location was good and centrally located with full access to buses, metros and trams!

This hotel hasn't been decorated in a long time, it has a grubby feel about it. Bought this hotel as they advertise aircon - which didn't blow out any cold air! Wifi was available but only in reception/restaurant area. Apparently renovated in 1993 seems more like 1963 though. Nice attentive & helpful staff.

Great location and the staff was very nice but the place itself needs to be renovated ASAP, the mattresses were circa 18th century, I felt the springs digging into my back as i desperately tried falling asleep without overthinking the situation. The fourth floor smells like a sewer facility but the staff was nice enough to change our room. I wish they didn't offer breakfast at all because it was the same crappy eggs with bad coffee every single day.

This is a beautiful old hotel in a brilliant location in Lisbon. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast were really good and provided a good selection of food. Looking forward to returning.

You really can't get more down town than this. You walk out the front door into the vibrant city life of Lisbon. The hotel itself maybe in need of a few small touch ups to bring it back to former luxury of a few years ago but it is still essentially very comfortable. Standing on our gothic balcony and taking in the plaza below and the fort above with the beautiful houses and buildings in between is a fantastic vista. Closing the double glazed doors makes for a quieter retreat or open the door on... Read more

The location is superb if you are a tourist. All attractions are either nearby are reached via the convenient and economical transportation options. The Metropole is a quaint facility and step back in time. The furniture fabric and rugs are filthy and heavily worn down from decades of use without maintenance. The plumbing is archaic, no upgrades here. The public area is a dead zone. The bar is non-existent. Furnishings as per above. The staff is congenial and will take time to be helpful. Daily ... If you want to be in the midst of everything, this is a great location. The train station is a block away, the hop on/hop off buses are a square away, high end shopping is up the street, so many options and convenience from this location. We had read that the furnishings were a bit dated, but knew we would not be in our room except to sleep. Rooms were clean, neat and no frills. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was basic and coffee was extremely strong. We just asked for hot water to ... Read more

This was the worst hotel experience my husband and I have EVER had! The hotel was old, filthy, run down, smelly and not secure. The front door was unlocked at all times, even overnight, with no one on the entry level floor. The rooms had only push button locks, no dead bolt and a flimsy hook and eye closure. The reception was one floor up from the entrance with cameras, but nothing to keep the public out or the guests safe. The entire hotel smelled of sewer and the smell in our room on the fou... Lovely, very old hotel, in the centre of Lisbon. Very helpful staff. Good continental breakfast. Excellent value for money. Bedroom and bathroom very clean, though very old!! BUT money needs to be spent of refurbishment. Furniture worn out ( dining chars had very little seat left! ). Stair carpet so worn, it is almost dangerous. Having said all that, we loved it.

Stayed here on a one night stopover in Lisbon. Wasn't cheap but the location in the city centre determines that. However the entire place is very rundown with below average customer service & a breakfast standard to match. Wouldn't be returning considering there is so many other places in the same area of a higher standard
