This hotel is a gem. And it has a great position, being right in the action on Rossio square. We stayed in a castle view room overlooking the square, and the view is fabulous, but stay on the third floor or above or the trees spoil the view. Excellent breakfast, even scrambled egg provided, a rarity in Europe. All the staff were wonderful; so friendly and helpful. I asked them to recommend restaurants each evening, and they came up trumps every time. I will return.

It's great being right on the square near Rossio, couldn't fault it, however whilst I had a room on the square side, there is no double-glazing so its noisy 24 x 7. It strikes me as a hotel being run by someone who is tight on budget, and as long as it is functional does not think changes are required. Now I'm not a terribly fussy traveller, but when the white towels are so old that they are almost grey and thin, I don't care if they work or not it doesn't feel like I'm on holiday. I took the st... 1. Reservation sites should check these hotels carefully regarding the star rating. It claims to be a 3 star but is a European 2.5 star and a US 2 star. 2. As expected in Europe, room and BR were tiny. No more than 2 can move in the room. 3. Mattresses were lumpy, quite bad. 4. We were in the back of the building. No view. Maybe the front views are better but they fill up quickly. 5. Bathroom fixtures were old 6. I paid 160 euros for each night. Definitely overpriced. 7. Breakfast... Read more

Great location, in the heart of Lisbon. Great view from the balcony, but.... Very old hotel, smells old and in a low standard. Way too expencive, the only thing worth paying for is the location. Friendly staff, continental breakfast.

Located centrally in the Placa Rossio. That's about all I can say positively about this hotel! Someone with deep pockets should snatch this property up and do a total refurb. From the push button locks to the furniture from the 1950's???, Hotel Metropole needs some serious attention. Although I was traveling with my husband, I did not feel secure in this hotel. Although they assured me someone was "in duty" 24 hours/day, that did not assuage my discomfort. I could go on and on but what's the poi... Read more

The hotel is located in an ideal place! It really isn't a bad place if you only need a place to sleep and shower. It is old, but ok, it is the staff that is the problem!!! The people at the front desk are rude. I waited with or luggage while my husband checked us in and heard the man at the front desk yelling at my husband. When I went to investigate the man did not like that we booked 2 rooms with Expedia one room for 2 nights for friends and 1 room for us for one night. My husband even... Read more

The hotel is in such shabby condition that it drained our spirits, so we shortened our stay. The carpeting was filthy and torn. The bedspread had multiple rips. Some dining room chair upholstery was ripped. The bed linens were so thin that one could almost read through them. The hallways were in serious need of paint. The bathroom tile and ceiling vent had mold. The TV was the old CRT style and had completely snowy screen. Our room: 54. I knew that the hotel hadn't been renovated recently,... Read more

We stayed here for a week in September, and enjoyed it so much that we booked an extra night at the end of our vacation - we had planned on staying close to the airport but the Metropole was so lovely that we just had to give it another go. The reception staff could not do enough for us, and our rooms with a balcony over Rossio Square were delightful - the first one was room 39 and the second was room 49. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. The only negatives are the wifi (terrible everywhere e... Read more

This is the second time I've visited Libson but the first time actually staying in the city. The first time was just a day trip and I remember seeing this hotel and thinking that when I came back I would stay at this hotel due to its great location. The hotel is located in Rossio Square which is right across the road from a metro station, there is a nearby train station and another metro station and also near many attractions and places to eat. The hotel was nice and cosy. The room was a reall... Read more
